not a problem adopting a dog from this shelter, however the pup that I adopted need vet care for parasites, probably from contaminated food.

He does have some separation anxiety but my other dogs do also, and this is a common trait with the breed. He was up to date on vacs and his medical info from all his vets was provided. He appeared well taken care of. I would adopt from this rescue again.

I scoured the internet for weeks and signed up for pet search engines, adoptapet.com and Petfinder.com. On October 30, 2014, a male yorkie mix posted on petfinder.com. He called out to me. His name was Teddy and he was available through LowCountry Animal Rescue in Summerville. I completed the extensive on-line application. They checked our veterinary reference and made a home visit. As rescue groups look to make the best match, we were thrilled when we received that approval phone call the next day. You see, while we do have a fenced in yard and retired, sometimes, the match is to a household with multiple dogs, or children ... both, of which we had neither. We went to a 'meet and greet' at the PetSmart on Rivers Avenue, the next day. Would Teddy like us? Would hub like Teddy? It was love at first sight and we loved him every minute he shared our lives until he passed almost 7 years later. We had huge holes in our hearts but knew the time was right to fill the void with another precious soul who needed a fresh start. Back to the search engines. The first email in my inbox on New's Year's Day was from adoptapet.com. I couldn't believe my eyes when Clarence's face popped up on my screen, up for adoption through LowCountry Animal Rescue. I had submitted an updated application a month earlier and was approved. As such, I sent them a message with lots of questions to which they responded right away. I asked for Clarence to come to the Adoption Event at Petco, Summerville, scheduled for that afternoon. Clarence was beautiful ... a yorkie-schnauzer mix (Snorkie). Joe and he started bonding right away. He was just who we needed ... and this 6 year old needed us, too. In no time, we were a family of 3, again, on our way home. LowCountry Animal Rescue is a small group of volunteers who foster in their homes. Their fosters come from shelters and owner surrenders. They are responsive and take care of the dogs, cats and any other furry kids that are in their care. Adoptions are on weekends at pre-publicized Adoption events around the greater Charleston area. An approved application must be on file. The animals come up-to-date on shots, Heartworm tested and neutered or spayed. Both Teddy and Clarence were crate trained and house trained. Looking to open your home and heart? They're on Facebook ... Google them and click on 'pets available for adoption' on petfinder.com. Please adopt ... don't shop. You'll be saving a life.

I have always been upfront about her being a mix, she resembles a Maltese or Shih Tzu and her profile clearly says "mixed." At check-in, the staff changed her breed to "Maltipoo" because she is "larger than a Maltese" and charged me $11 extra. They also added a $10 "scissor fee" because her coat was supposedly "thick," even though she has straight, thin hair. At check-in, they offered teeth cleaning and nail grinding, and I clearly declined both. When they called to say my dogs were ready, they mentioned the extra $10 charge and told me they did her nails "free of charge," despite my specific instructions not to touch them. To make it worse, my 50lb black lab/border collie mix had a grooming the same day and his was cheaper than my 8lb Shih Tzu/Maltese mix. When I went to pay, my fiancé stayed in the salon to pick up the dogs. He witnessed her rolling her eyes then she approached him. This groomer proceeds to tell him, "I'm sorry your wife is upset... this is why we did the charge, etc. Please bring your dog back again, I loved working with her." Unfortunately, after this experience, my fiancé and I both agree we will never bring our dogs back here. I will say, the rest of the staff I interacted with outside of this particular groomer (Keriann M) were friendly and professional, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I suggest others, especially with mixed breeds, think twice if you expect fair pricing, transparency, and for your wishes as a pet owner to be respected.

His surgery went smoothly and his incision has healed up well. The one thing I wish they would have been better about was communication. It was extremely hard to reach anyone on the phone, so no one confirmed my appointment or provided me with detailed day-of instructions. I also wish they would have called me and notified me when his surgery was over, rather than me just showing up and hoping he was ready to go. Overall, not nearly as awful as the reviews state, and would recommend to others.

I had been training in the Army for the last 7 months and I worried very often if Ara felt like I abandoned her. Her other mom would comfort me in saying you will be able to spend the next years with her so don't feel to bad. Her mom and I feel like we sent her to her death bed choosing this company. That was our princess going in for a SIMPLE procedure. I wish I could do literally anything to change what happened that day ESPECIALLY A DIFFERENT VETERINARIAN. But unfortunately nothing can bring back our baby, Ara. Save yourself the emotional pain. spend an extra 50$ so your baby can come home to you afterwards.
