I came in 2016 on a very windy day and was able to sample a few of the trucks. At the gate, they…read moregive you 5 tickets, which are good for drinks. Also, some vendors give out free sample cards. One thing I hated about the festival is the design/location of the entrance. The entrance is along the freeway side of the parking lot and every person entering has to walk all the way to the front, where there is no parking to enter. They should move it to the back (closer to the building) where people are actually parking. Drinks in the wine tent (as they call it) range from bottled water, to craft beers and wine vendors, to off brand cokes to Vita Coco coconut juice. I ended up getting 1 beer and 3 coconut juices. I tried food from the bird food truck, bundt cake a holic and scratch food truck. The southern comfort bundt cake was really delicious and wish I would have purchased a whole cake during my visit. I ordered a $5 combo meal at the Bird with 3 chicken wings and waffle fries. I had the wings tossed in their habanero sauce, but was not impressed because not only was it not spicy, it tasted like a typical buffalo flavor you get anywhere. No hint of habanero anywhere to be found. The waffle fries were very good though. From Scratch food truck, I ordered the cheesesteak sandwich. This came out piping hot with chimichurri sauce and red onions on top. It was very good as well. I wish I had more time to stay longer and try some other food trucks that I haven't ever tried, and also even pay attention to the music.

Food trucks festival? Hellz yeah. My hubby; however, wasn't down with paying the $16 (plus…read moreprocessing!) per person to get in. Thank you to Farrah, our lovely CM, for the complimentary tickets! Walking around, we started with brisket eggrolls from Wokker TX Ranger -- four eggrolls for $6.00 and they were absolutely delicious! Charlie ordered the Poutine Style Fries topped with fried chicken, bacon bits, and GRAVY from D'Lish Curbside Bistro while I chose to stand in the longest line at the park: Cousins Maine Lobster. My only regret is not ordering two servings of the lobster tacos! Craft Burger had their truck closed down by 3:30 which was a major bummer. I took a photo of the menu description of their Pecan Porter milkshake (maple bacon bourbon milkshake with candied bacon sprinkles) and was REALLY looking forward to having that for desert :p My only complaint for the day was the drink ticket system.. You are given a total of 5 drink tickets: waters cost 2 tickets, sodas required 3, and beer was 4 or 5 tickets! Just left me feeling a bit cheated to only have one beer with almost $20 a person to get in. Yes yes -- I was a lucky one getting tickets from yelp but a few of our friends declined coming out because of the entry cost. Charlie and I made sure to grab some awesome Texas t-shirts from Haus of Growlers before heading out. Check out their website for neat Texas and beer themed shirts and growlers! http://hausofgrowlers.com/

Nestled in a corner lot just past the city of Bellaire is Sam Tacos, a true diamond in the rough…read moreand one of the tastiest taco trucks I've come across my entire time in Houston. Owner Samuel Ortega hails from Mexico City and has been bringing the chilango swag for the better part of the last decade. If you take nothing away from this milestone (#1) review, just know that this has been my favorite taco truck in the city that I've (selfishly) gatekept for the better part of the last year and more. The truck is a colorful but not very noticeable from Bellaire Blvd. Save for the TV playing telenovelas or soccer matches, it's a truck where signage is falling apart. The title signage looks like it's about to fall off but the food specials signs are on pristine condition. It tells me that they prioritize food over eveything else and it shows. Their tacos are everything I want in a late snack. They're savory, indulgent, and well portioned. So many trucks will conceal their price list and then masquerade their tacos with a two biter taquito. Not here, the distinction has been made: $2 for tacos, $1.50 for taquitos. The cabeza is essentially their version of barbacoa and its rich, fatty, smooth, and my favorite meat selection. Their chicharron is a must order as well, the rinds are silky and full of flavor. The fajita is also quite tasty and the I'm pleased to report that the al pastor is served with a slice of pineaple. Orders that are ready for pickup are announced on a loud speaker. If you have a long commute, I recommend eating the tacos immediately in the car. It's not all tacos, they have a number of daily specials focusing on other items that range from burritos to machetes to esquite and Mexican hotdogs. While I don't vouch as much for them as I do the tacos, they're worth trying once in a blue moon. Even their salsa packaging is on point. (#2) The owner has always been courteous and thoughtful and by showing up *every time.* The man doesn't give himself any breaks and this his steady audience of Mexican locals and I are appreciative for all that he does for the community. He's so cognizant that he forgot to pack my esquite and still remembered the mistake when I came a couple of weeks later and threw in a couple more tacos for good measure. That's customer service, folks. Parking won't be a problem. Spanish is the only thing I hear here, but I've yet to hear anyone order in English. It's a cash only biz and there's an ATM in the same lot. ___________ (#1) Here's looking at you, 5,200th. (#2) The same kind of bags for other substances. Just sayin.
