Great cheesesteaks BUT here's the deal: When you call in and order they tell you 20 minutes, when it takes nearly 40 minutes. Since people hang up when they hear 40 minutes for one cheesesteak, they say 20 minutes. This is why you always see pissed off people waiting for their food. This is a horrible business practice. On top of that, when asking why it took so long, he responded; "sometimes a large order comes in right after yours." Which doesn't make sense at all because they should cook the food in order. This last cheesesteak I got had hardly any meat and the bread was soggy. When it's all women behind the grill the food sucks and so does the service. Don't order when it's busy because they will lie to you about the wait time, and then cook a shitty steak. This place has gone downhill big time in the past few years. read more

I should give them 5 stars because I was right they weren't going to stay open long when there deli cases had nothing left in them. The people working there were rude kids who probably will live in mommies basement till there 40's the sign on the door says they had a broken pipe but will reopen in February. Well it's almost April. After going to Dons for 40 plus years it was like watching someone getting old and eventually kicking the bucket. You remember them in there prime in life then they end up in a nursing home laying there pooping themselves in a diaper helpless. That's Dons so great in the 70 s and 80s then went down hill. Thanks for the memories!! read more

I recently discovered a new favorite sandwich on the menu - the Donny Pastrami. It's a hot sandwich with pastrami, Swiss, slaw and 1000 island on a hoagie roll. So good! I am still loving their potato salad, and their pasta salad is really very good too - always fresh with lots of bell peppers and tomatoes and chunks of ham and provolone and not soaked in dressing like some places do. Not too fond of the macaroni salad though which is a bummer. It is just way too sugary for my taste. But otherwise, I love Don's. It's my favorite deli in the area. read more

Ordered an italian hoagie and it was picked up at 7:50 PM. They must have already cleaned the slicer and did not want to dirty it again. I had thick hand sliced meat and cheese. Place has gone down hill. Never any one there except employees when I go to pick up. Never going here again. read more

Love this place great food close to my home and love the cheese steaks my son love going here and the staff is great also !

I LOVE DON'S DELI! This place has been around since the late '50s, and it's a local favorite for those who are in the mood for hoagies! The menu offers various hoagies (Italian, Ham & Cheese, Jewish Corned Beef on Rye, etc.), Deep Fried Goodies (french fries, hot pepper pockets with cheddar cheese, etc.), fried chicken, grilled items (such as Mushroom Cheese Steak, B.L.T., etc.), and even take-out dinners (Filet of Flounder, MD Style Crab Cakes, etc.). I had their Cheese Steak (the steak was seasoned well, had good melty cheese, and great with the mayo), the Chicken Cheese Steak (I'm usually a steak & cheese/cheesesteak person, so I was surprised that I enjoyed this one more! Having it with the hot peppers made it even more delicious!), and the Turkey hoagie (such a simple sandwich, but it's the combination of the thin turkey slices, the mayo, and the hot peppers - so yummy!). I also tried their Hot Pepper Pockets with Cheddar Cheese - these were you usual jalapeno poppers. The place itself is totally old-school - there are chips and drinks you can also pick-up, but this is more of a carry-out place. You can also phone ahead for your orders, which I highly recommend, as this place gets orders up the wazoo. Waits can be 45 minutes plus! I can't wait to go back and get some of them sammies! +Chicken Cheese Steak! +Turkey hoagie! +ask for hot peppers! +order ahead! +limited street parking read more

Good chicken cheesesteaks good cheesesteaks good hoagies French fries as well clean place as well

This place used to be the best place for cheesesteaks But sadly it has gone down hill after the ORIGINAL owner sold it many years ago Decided I'd give the 3rd owner a shot and Dons failed miserably There was so much gristle on my cheesesteak I gave up picking it out Called and complained and gave a chance to make it right only to get hung up on read more

Place is under new ownership and has been on a steady decline. This is the 4th time they've forgotten to put items on my sandwich, this time lettuce and oregano. And much less turkey than before as well. And on top of that as others have mentioned, prices seem to be higher and higher every time I go. As the price goes up, the sandwich's get smaller. The quality and order accuracy of this place is beyond deficient. After spending $75 on 5 sandwiches I'm "slightly" perturbed to get the order home to Dover and find it wrong. Do better Don's. read more

What a waste of $40!! Haven't been there in a while and won't be going back! Ordered a sandwich to which they didn't have half the ingredients. Settled for something else; pastrami-which was supposed to come with Swiss cheese, coleslaw and dressing. It's was meat SWIMMING in dressing on a soggy roll; no Swiss, no coleslaw. When I called "the manager said they may be out of coleslaw". HUH, WTF, they had my phone number? Could have called me instead of taking my money for garbage. The cheese steak had hardly any meat on it. I was beyond embarrassed because I told my guest they had great sandwiches!!!!!!! Don's was great for years...no longer, don't waste your hard earned money! read more

Omg!!! Two stoners cooking the subs. Ridiculous!! Don't waste your time. There's a WaWA really close

If you want a crappy dinner, go dons deli. We ordered cheesesteaks, but I guess they forgot the cheese and everything else but they didn't forget the bill. We ordered 3 to go, and they said will make it up to you if I give you. 1 sandwich, wrong answer. read more

Good functional Cheesesteak. Nice old school deli. Don's left me wanting more. A lot of cheesesteak for the price but no passion, flavor nor vibe in the place or Cheesesteak. read more

In past have given good review. Food is good, but last two take out orders were lacking items. Ordered deep fried mushrooms and side of pizza sauce, got home and no sauce. Have naked mushrooms. If one time OK, but more than once, a pattern. Called and was told it was a little thing and should not be an issue. They said I should have checked the bag before leaving. Their attention to detail and double checking orders for take out appears lacking. Warned. read more

Been eating here for 20 years until I moved!! Has changed ownership but is still the best hoagie or cheesesteak in my opinion!!!

Ordered two roast beef specials. When I ordered I was told the price would be 49.99 each. Husband picked up order and was charged 59.99. Was told prices went up and they "don't quote prices". When I'm told a price when I place an order I don't expect to pay 20 dollars more at pick up. After numerous emails I was offered a ten dollar gift card which was half the amount I was overcharged. Whoever emailed me was very condescending Don't talk down to me because when you do - you've lost my business. I've been giving this store my business for over 20 years. They won't see me again. Lousy customer service. Buyer beware is my advice read more

Placed an order for 4 steaks, chicken fingers, 2 orders of fries and an order of onion rings.. Was told it would be 45 minutes. Almost 25 minutes later they call back and say they can't make the order unless I pay over the phone! My wife tells them we want to pay cash and are not reading our credit card number over the phone. The women on the phone asked if we wanted them to hold the order until I got there to pay. No thanks, we canceled and told them we would go somewhere else. After reading the reviews on here about people waiting twice as long for sandwiches, it sounds like they hold off making your order until you get there to pay. Sorry Don's, you just lost a customer. read more

Our friend showed up last night with a bag of cheesesteak fixings from Don's. We cooked up the steak put some of the very generous amount of cheese on it and settled at the table as a family. What a great meal! The potato salad was almost as good as mine. The rolls were soft and plentiful and the steak was melt in your mouth cheesy beefy goodness. Highly recommend for that night when you don't know what to cook for dinner. Yum! read more

I ordered 2 cheesesteaks, the bill was over $28.00. with tax. That is crazy. I never heard of a cheesesteak costing that much. They are going to price themselves out of business. Have used this deli over the years. Called to order their RB special. Was told $33.00 for 4lbs if beef, gravy and rolls. Get there $43.00 total. Cashier not accommodating to quote. Said That person was wrong. I said that their employees knowledge should be their problem. Didn't care. Told them I wouldn't be back. Just got a shrug. Yesterday I went to our favorite place for steaks and hoagies, Don's of course. I've been going here for a while now and cannot understand some of the negative reviews. We have an older menu hanging up on our refrigerator, understand everyone's prices I have one out from over a year ago. Someone commented about the price of a roast beef hoagie. Again the menu I'm looking at is well over a year ago and a 6 foot party hoagie is listed at $72. So we're at some of these people are getting their cost I do not understand and I don't want to speak for them. But I'd also like to say the reason I go to Don's is when we were in the mood for a really awesome hoagie or awesome steak sandwich we go to Don's we know we're going to pay a few dollars more for the sandwich but we understand we're going to get more for our money. And this is the reason we drive a little further out of our way to go to Don's. If we want a regular sandwich nothing out of the ordinary we may even choose Wawa their staff is also friendly and the sandwiches are good in fact,I love their tuna hoagies. But remember one thing when buying sandwiches anywhere you get what you pay for. Last week I went there for steak sandwiches for my wife and myself. For us their steaks are incredibly awesome. In fact we can only eat half of the steak because some thing you don't see many sandwich places they really pack your sandwich with meat. FYI if you call in your sandwich add another five minutes or so because a lot of times they are really busy. But when I go in I head straight over to the refrigerator's and pick up macaroni salad and potato salad they are out of this world. Their french fries are incredible as well we always order the extra extra crispy. To the staff at Don's thank you for all your excellent sandwiches. read more

The subs here are not like they use to be the standard of meat has lowered and so has the bread. The dubs use to be spilling over with meat and it was good quality but the people who took over changed that complete! I've gone there for years but thus weekend was the last straw I'm done. read more

This place used to be an awesome place for sandwiches. Since new owners opened back up, we tried them. Called ahead, got there on twenty minutes as told. Waited 30 more minutes for my cheese steaks, got home. Sandwiches were a mess and no cheese. Everyone was trashing them on Facebook, but I wanted to be fair and give them a second chance. Today we called ahead, went to pick up and got two pounds of cheese. Have you ever waited for someone to slice cheese one slice at a time and weigh, one slice weigh, one slice.....Got home no chicken fingers. Go back, pick up, no honey mustard. And charged$ 9.01 for 4 chicken fingers and 16 French fries. Went home and ate our cold sandwiches. $49.00 wasted, should have cut my losses. Even told the guy when I went back for the rest of my food, no apology, no return business. Chi food businesses are going to hell. Thank goodness Brookhaven is picking up the slack. read more

It's so sad how downhill this place has went. They used to have the best cheese steaks in town. Now they are dry and I mean dry. Won't be going back for awhile. read more

What ever happened to customer service? I arrive there today at 11:20 there are two young men making sandwiches and an older woman tallying up receipts. I was the only customer in the place. I walked in and when the woman finally realized I was there she stated I'll be right with you I responded thank you. I waited I waited and I waited. A young woman came in and the older woman who was tallying the receipts responded to her went upstairs got a tray of rolls came down bagged the rolls into other bags and then promptly rang her up as I'm standing there looking like an idiot. The old woman said I'll be right with you and I responded with excuse me why are you waiting on her before me I have been standing here and she said well you'll just have to wait and I said oh hell I will and left as she says"bye-bye". I can tell you right now I will never step in that place ever againAnd I usually spend quite a bit of money every visit. I want to the place is going down hill. This old lady shouldn't be working she doesn't have any rapport with customers. read more

We just got the best hoagies and cheesesteaks at Don's yesterday!

Yes Don's has the best cheesesteaks BUT they dealt their loyal customers a raw deal on Super Bowl Sunday. I called the day before to place my cheesesteak order. My husband arrived at the store to find a store filled with customers waiting for their sandwiches. They hadn't started to make our sandwiches. Game time was in 90 minutes! After him was someone that was there to pick up a sandwich tray. That wasn't started either. Then Don's ran out of large rolls and they continued to take orders over the phone! WTH. Apparently customers were asking for a price break due to the smaller size roll and were told no! Don's Food Store is this any way to treat your loyal customers? Dons service and quality of food has gone down. The woman at the front makes it seem like an inconvenience to take your order. I ordered a Don's special and they literally put nothing but meat and peppers on it. No cheese, onions, or tomato. And when I called to get a refund they refused to do so. The woman at the desk admitted that she wrote it wrong but would not refund the money. Lost my business read more

Very disappointed in the Italian hoagies we picked up for dinner on Saturday May 9th. They were not Italian hoagies, but cheap ham hoagies with lots of onions and salad, and hardly any cheese. They are very overpriced for the quality of the meat. Sorry to say but wawa would have been a better choice. read more
