Went in for an inspection on a vehicle I had just purchased. Was told I needed muffler repairs...Which I did! Made appointment. Owner was straightforward...And I appreciate that. I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time considering the repairs needed. Prices were much better than what I anticipated. Comfortable a/c waiting area. Not 100% clean BUT... Hey! Had to have auxiliary battery changed on my jeep. If you have a wrangler, you know how involved and expensive this can be. Dons was in the area of 150 to 200 dollars cheaper than the dealer. And the work was done correctly and quick. If I need any other work I will use Dons. Highly recommend. read more

I have never been more disappointed in a mechanic in my 67 years on this earth. He'll give you a quote then decide later that he had to do much more. He said to come by and pay for the parts and handed me a final bill to pay the next day. My wife said as we drove out, " I'll bet he jacks the bill up. When he called me to come by and pick up the truck, he said he was sorry but the mechanic had to spend an hour and a half to cut 4 bolts and retap two. and the final bill was going to be another 150.00 Dollars on top of his already ridiculously high price. I explained that my wife and have ground off rusty bolts and have retapped threads before and it doesn't take an hour and half. We were warned about him and his shop, but when we first met, I thought he could be trusted, however, that was not the case. A man of integrity would not have done this. read more

My husband and I are new to the area and we're looking for a mechanic to service our vehicle. Went to 2 other business that were referred to me but they weren't open so we tried Don's (found on yelp). I saw the reviews and noticed a few about bad customer service. I thought it could have been an off day but we still decided to stop by. My husband was headed towards the office door when a customer who was standing in front of the door said they are in the bay just knock on the door. My husband knocks on the bay door and a man comes out of the employee entrance and says "so you can't go to the office door like everybody else". Not hello, not how can I help you. I was in the car and in the process of moving it into a parking spot because I saw the sign that says do not block the door. When he tells my husband "don't block the door, that's what those spaces in the grass are for. My husband got back into the car and we left. Very rude and gets very mad and loud when you call him out on things that he can't do. Lies about what all is done and marks parts way over. He'll tell you he can't find parts and then tell you, he will only use the parts he gets for the job. Way over priced and marks everything up. All the parts he would not put on my car and said he could not find, I got all of them and they came from the same place he gets them. He did maybe $600.00 worth of work and charged me over $2100.00 and refused to finish the job. I asked him to make the car safe to drive so my mother would be safe in it. I took my car to someone else and the wheel bearing that he said he replaced had not been replaced at all and the wheel was starting to come off. Thank the good lord, I found someone that knew what they were doing and got the work done right. read more

Had a vibration problem in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma truck, thought it was a plug not firing, so Don took a look at it and hoped it wasn't a transmission problem that would be over $1K. Turned out to be a Universal Joint problem and I was fixed in half a day. This is not the first time of using Don's Auto Repair and certainly not the first time of being on the receiving end of excellent service. Very safe place in getting honest repair work done. My regular place could not get me in for maintenance for two weeks so just googled shops, found Don's. Easy to make appointment on phone. They could get five stars for this old school garage, but owner was smoking in the shop, gross. Weird thing is has sign in shop that says no smoking. Also, for some reason there is a pool table inside. They did a good job though. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. The only reason I went to this stinking smoke filled place is because it was on the way to the NCDMV. The entrance to the lot is full of potholes and the lot is filled with junk cars. I guess the junk cars are there for show for the public to think this place may be in demand and OK for repairs. What a JOKE. When I pulled in, a guy in uniform started shouting at me, with a cigarette bobbing in his mouth, that I needed to park in a parking spot. I later found out this man was DON. I looked around and saw a space in between these junk cars and backed in there. I proceeded to enter the SO CALLED office. That small space stunk so bad. It smelled like a stale, smoke filled BEER JOINT from the 80's. It was lettered with old junk on the walls, a delapidated old pool table, old chairs and sinks from a hair salon, old bar table with barstools with eating condiments all over the table. I thought it was comical that with all of this SMOKE FILLED STALE 1980's JUNK, that someone had the GALL to put up a sign that said NO SMOKING when Don came in several times with a cigarette bobbing in his mouth as he was speaking. If you want to go to a 1980's beer joint for an inspection test, this is the place. Then after I got my emissions test, it stated on the bottom that my vehicle did not register on the State Host of the NVDMV and it was my responsibility to go to the DMV and get this straightened out. I am driving a brand new vehicle that was inspected at the dealership last year when I bought it. The NCDMV told me the Inspection Station did not know what he was doing and she would make a note of it on her DMV computer. My inspection had been entered onto their database. I proceeded to renew my tag and registration. When I got home, I had to take a shower to get the SMOKE FILLED STALE funk off of my skin and put my clothes in the washer. NEVER AGAIN. Do not waste your time or money here unless you want to revisit the SMOKE FILLED BEER JOINTS OF THE 80's. Another comedic point: There was a sign in the stale office which stated : BEWARE OF WIFE. Again, if you want to visit a beer joint riding a motorcyle, this is the place you want to go. Sylvia, the wife fits the bill as well. NEVER NEVER AGAIN. There is another emission station before you get to Don's that is much more modern and up to date. I would give this place ZERO STARS. read more
