Wanted to enjoy this place. However left with amazement, disappointment and utter lack of…read moreprofessionalism. Start with the food it was ok. Nothing wow or great just ok. Flavor on the food was just lacking. Even the Vermont cheddar cheese was bland and only a whisper of sharpness. The home made chips good but lacked anything special. The true problem of this place is the ownership/management. We went there little after it opened. To see a table with a 5 gallon bucket of utensils and servers doing their side work on a table you have to walk past to get to anywhere in the seating area. Then we come to the management/owner. My biggest pet peeve is doing the books or daily paperwork in the guest area. You have an office or a place away from your guests. Not in full view and with in ear shot of your guests. And not in a place where sound carries. The BIGGEST complaint is the language. You are the leader of your staff. You set an example for the behavior and attitude of your staff. Dropping F-BOMBS and other vulgar language is not at anytime acceptable. Clearly the servers knew it and didn't thankfully follow your lead. This is NOT your buddies garage or basement. You are having people come in and hearing your language and seeing and clearly hearing your behavior I can not recommend going here. If it was based on food maybe. But clearly the ownership and leadership will keep me away from here. Such potential wasted by such poor work ethics.

Awesome awesome awesome! We came into Madison brewing for a beer and ended up doing a late lunch/…read moreearly dinner. We started at the bar where the bartender Melissa was amazing. She was very nice and accommodating with tastes to see what we would like. We had a round of their pumpkin beer with the sugar ring, yum! For lunch we started with the Bavarian pretzel ( hot and buttery)! We also had the sweet and spicy Brussels sprouts which were really good as well. For our meal, I ordered the Big Mikes steak burger which had cheddar cheese and their smokehouse bacon. It was awesome served with fries. We also ordered 2 cranberry Melts we also had the mad Vermont melt (ham and cheddar) Everything was perfect and Morgan was great taking care of our table! I highly recommend!

What a nice little spot inside this building. First off, I recommend looking inside the bar area…read morebefore being sat, as there is a much larger dining area in the back room with the bar. When you walk in, it looks like a very small tasting area, but the music is playing and it's much more to look at than the tables in the entrance way. Service was quite friendly and they are smart to have the tap list on a larger chalkboard right inside the door, so making up your mind on what VT beer to enjoy takes less time to decide. Had to order the spicy deep fried cheese curds and these were fantastic. Just enough spice and perfect little guilt-free bites of curds. Mmmm. For my meal, I decided on the Chicken Caesar wrap (one of their specials for the day) and was less thrilled about this choice. It was served grilled and hot, so a warm, thin layer of lettuce, with a grilled chicken (2-3 solid pieces) in there. Dressing was served on the side and the menu made no mention of any of this, so it was boring and lacked any real flavors unless you dipped it into the dressing very awkwardly. My buddy's chicken sandwich lacked any sort of flavor as well. Fries (both sweet potato and regular) were super heavy on salt. Beer was solid, so it washed down a very mediocre, salty meal after starting off with a bang with those curds. Bummer. I guess I'll stick with strictly appetizers on my next visit.

Crowd was pretty good for a later dining time and during Covid. Waitress was quick to take drink orders and they had a nice selection of local beers. We just went for apps this night. Potstickers, pretzel and the cheesesteak egg rolls. All were tasty but the egg rolls were the star. Tasty and cooked right. Potstickers had a great dipping sauce and were a nice mix of crispy and chewy. Only down side is that the entrance door opens to the outside and doesn't self-close. A few patrons left door open and the diners had to get up and close as it was bitter cold this night. Small parking lot but the if you need to park a bock away, it's a nice little walk. There were kids here and definitely kid friendly.

We got the pizza margherita; I added prosciutto. The Italian Trio pizza, a large Caesar salad, and arancini. We chose a booth next to the door as all of the other full booth tables were taken. Busy! I do not advise sitting next to the door in January; it was pretty cold. Our waitress was rather friendly and seemed like she could've been a good addition to girls' night out but we ended up going home after dinner. I ordered a cranberry mule off their winter cocktail list which was served in a cute Ketel One mug. It was also Delicious!! My friend had a cosmo and said it was very good, dry, and "not too sweet not too alcoholy." We split the arancini which was AMAZING and the winter salad off the specials menu, which was also very delicious. For dinner, I had the mussels fra diavolo which was spicier than I imagined it being but still good. I even liked the mussels which isn't typical for me. It was served with a buttery and soft garlic crostini and linguini, but I could've just gotten it with a loaf of bread which I'll admit I was curious to try. We really enjoyed the live music and were a little disappointed when he left for the night and no house music started playing. The silence left a small hole in our experience. Overall? Great night. We liked the restaurant enough that we considered going to their sister restaurant across the street the following night, but ended up just having our leftovers from 421. Also, street parking!

Hubby reported his roast beef sandwich was great although the roast beef looked overcooked to me. What was dubious, however, were the French fries. They had a sort of mealy texture and a very odd taste--I thought they used coconut oil to fry but hubby thinks they coated them with baking soda, then fried. Either way I wasn't a fan.

The inside is charming and has that old wooden bar smell that I like. This would be a great place to grab a drink on a cold winter day. Very Scottish, lol. We were seated immediately for our 6:30 dinner reservation. We each ordered appetizers, which took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, even the cup of soup. Mozzarella sticks were nothing special, the cheddar tomato soup was really tasty. My mother in law loved the cock-a-leekie soup, and my father in law liked his scotch egg. It took another 20-25 minutes for our entrees to arrive. For a restaurant that closes at 8 pm, it was surprising at how long the food took to come out. They must have a very small kitchen. Everyone in our group liked their meal. My "loaded vegetarian baked potato" was just a full cup of sour cream and cheese on top of a potato with lukewarm broccoli on the side. A bit disappointing, with there were at least chives or seasoning. Basically nothing else vegetarian on the menu so this was what I was stuck with. Desserts were good, especially the sticky toffee pudding. I would call this place a step above average in the area, but service leaves a lot to be desired.
