Because of my work schedule, I couldn't switch it out right away, but I would have if I could. A few days later, I went to the location on Highway 111 to exchange the car. The staff there seemed overwhelmed and honestly pretty annoyed with customers, which didn't help the situation. They did give me another car, but instead of handling it professionally, it felt careless. After I mentioned my concerns, they cleaned it so aggressively that they handed it to me completely soaked on the outside, with all the windows still wet, almost like they wanted to make sure I noticed. I was already irritated at that point and just left. Enterprise had a chance to make things right and didn't. Overall, the experience showed a lack of care and basic standards. I won't be renting from them again.

What…read morefollows is the 100% true account of my experience renting a car from Desert Rent-A-Car, and the mistreatment I endured at the hands of their owner,Tim McCoy. That man is a volatile piece of human garbage, and his aggressive demeaning behavior, as well as discriminatory business practices, are not only wrong but criminal in nature. I recently rented a car with Ace Rent-A-Car/Desert Rent-A-Car in Cathedral City, California. I extended the rental a couple of times and was going to extend it a third time when I received a message saying that my credit card had been declined and that they would need me to let them know if I wanted to extend as I would need to provide another form of payment. I was working at the time as I work nights at a hospital in Joshua Tree , but when I got home in the morning, I replied to their message stating that I DID want to extend the car for another 24 hours. They then told me I could NOT do that as the car was needed for other customers. There's no reason as to why I couldn't extend the rental as I had the money to do so. I just had to give them a different card. And aren't I their customer as well? However, they said they wanted me to return the car so I told them that I would. Not soon after this, I went to have a cigarette outside and was sitting across the street from my apartment when I saw two men drive up, one of them got out of the car and went over to my rental car. He opened the car door with keys that he had, and got into the car. I ran over to the rental car and knocked on the window and asked him what the hell he was doing as this was my rental. The man petulantly stated that this was HIS car, NOT my car, and he was taking it back. I soon gathered that this man was the owner of Desert Rent-A-Car, Tim McCoy. I told him I was going to be returning the car, and that it was not due back until 2pm. I had just received their message. And that there was no need to come and physically remove the car from my possession, especially in the way in which he was doing it, causing a scene and being loud in front of all my neighbors. His behavior, his irateness, his anger, his highly inappropriate mistreatment of me as the customer was incredibly offensive and I want to file a formal complaint against Tim McCoy. He behaved as if I was stealing money from him, he treated me as if I had stolen the car and he implicated in his language and choice of words some discriminatory views that culminated in a racist and bigoted remark that someone like me (a young gay Latino man) couldn't possibly afford the car. He started going through the car, rifling through my personal belongings, and throwing them into a pile on his lap. I told him that they were my belongings and he had no business touching them , and that I would remove my stuff from the car. However, he blocked me from getting into the car and refused to get out after I had asked him to please get out and let me take my belongings from the car. He refused to let me in to confirm he had given me everything that was mine, and that nothing was left in the car. However, I know for a fact, everything WAS NOT given back to me as I am missing my work jacket from Providence St Jude hospital where I used to work (this is very important to me) as well as a few other things, including my iPhone Tozo earbuds, iPhone vent mount, and billfold that contained $80 (4-$20 bills). When I tried to enter the car against his repeated refusal to let me in., Tim McCoy then threatened me with physical violence. I didn't know what to do so I just backed off and looked imploringly at the other man who was standing outside their car ( as he was the driver). I asked him why Tim McCoy was doing this and why he was treating me like this, but the man offered me no response. Tim McCoy then dumped what he gave me of my belongings into my hands and took off. This was the most egregious, offensive, discriminatory and racist incident that I've ever had with any employee let alone Tim McCoy , the owner of Desert Rent-A-Car. I've rented cars from several places over the years and have never had anyone behave this way or been treated so poorly as I was that day. I've hesitated in coming forward because of the shame that I have just for the fact that I had this treatment inflicted upon me. The host, John, was extremely rude and not accommodating to us, throughout the entire process. Initially, we had issues determining a meeting location as John refused to accept the GPS coordinates we provided. We finally agreed to meet at the Palm Springs Amtrak station to caravan to the Palm Springs windmills for our designated engagement shoot location but on the day of the shoot, John changed the location last minute due to wind concerns. We suggested meeting at a nearby Chevron gas station so we could coordinate with everyone, but John insisted we come to his location, citing potential damage to the car from high winds. He even claimed his location had "windmills" when we arrived the location did not-a complete lie. Once we arrived, John established several previously unmentioned rules. For one-he wouldn't let us drive the car even though he previously stated via email that he would let us drive the drive for a short distance. When he asked about driving the car, his response was demeaning and rude as if we were stupid for asking such a question on the first place. When we asked to drive the car, he claimed the adjacent street was private, another restriction he never mentioned beforehand. Secondly, he demanded we cover the PayPal transaction fee, and had numerous restrictions on how we could interact with the car. For example, he required us to take our shoes off when moving to the backseat but then admonished us for stepping on the seats even though we were barefoot & the ground was too hot to step on. Additionally, our photographer wanted to start with the top up, but John complained about putting the top up and down more than once. Finally, while I was making the final payment, John requested I cover the PayPal fee and even had the audacity to ask for a tip, all while watching me complete the transaction on my phone.
