Boreal Mountain is so far my favorite place to ski. It's very gentle and beginner-friendly, which…read moremakes it a great place to learn. The prices are also reasonable. We did the beginner class, which came with rentals and an all-day lift ticket! such a great deal. I really liked that the lift ticket didn't limit which slopes I could access. When I called Mt. Rose, they told me their beginner class also includes an all-day lift ticket, but it only allows access to the beginner lifts (and there are only three). My husband is a very good skier and has been skiing since he was 6 years old. He took the class with me so I wouldn't be alone. If we had gone to Mt. Rose, he would have missed out on the more advanced slopes (which I wouldn't go on anyway since I know my limits). I'm glad we chose Boreal so he could still enjoy the higher-level runs while I stayed comfortable on beginner terrain. The service was also very fast. We got our boots and ski equipment within 15 minutes. At one point, I accidentally returned my equipment because I thought my husband was done for the day after coming back from a higher-level slope. But he actually wanted to go again with me on the beginner slopes! After I explained the situation, Boreal let me re-rent the equipment at no extra cost. I showed my armband that confirmed I was in the class that included rentals, and they were very understanding. Overall, Boreal is definitely my go-to ski place. We'll be back!

I would say it's similar in size to dodge ridge with more accessible greens near the entrance. Pros: 2 lifts to greens are right up front. Learners and lessons have a good sequestered area, not Connected to other trails. Lesson teachers were a saint with my difficult son - he's finally surviving the bunny slope after a 90 minutes lesson! Cafeteria food isn't bad (but pricey as with everywhere) Snow condition was wonderful ! Very cold so not icy, fluffy and soft No extra price for parking close by (but lot is small) Cons: Lesson / rental line is a bit confusing Nowhere to sit in the lodge with a ton of table campers but seems to be a universal problem

I stayed here from June 2-7, immediately following the closure of the winter season. Consequently,…read morethere was a significant amount of updating and construction occurring, with many amenities closed. I acknowledge that my experience would likely differ during the winter season. During my stay, the low number of guests meant I did not need to make reservations at restaurants or wait anywhere, which was a positive aspect despite the overall quietness. I am rating this place 3 stars for the following reasons: Pros: -Convenient location for transit to Tahoe City or Truckee, with free and direct routes. -Excellent sales at clothing shops due to clearance of winter inventory. Outstanding customer service; the team was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. -Very affordable pricing; I paid approximately $170 per night for a one-bedroom studio. -Rooms were equipped with a fridge and microwave. -Several food options in the village, although availability varied by day. -The sauna was excellent. Cons: -The gym was subpar, with free weights only up to 40 lbs and both the stationary bike and treadmill out of service. The only notable equipment was the cable machine and elliptical. -The hot tub was closed. -The tram was closed. -Several restaurants were closed for renovation. -Rideshare services to Tahoe City or Truckee were expensive, costing around $30+ each way. Overall, the emptiness during this period was a highlight. However, the timing of my stay coincided with the off-season, during which the facility undertook extensive renovations. This undoubtedly influenced my experience.

I had a great experience snowshoeing at the Northstar Cross Country Center!…read more I purchased a pass for $71 (steep, but cheaper than skiing so whatever!) and road the gondola up to the center. It was easy to get there from the village and there is clear signage directing guests to the center. Plus, the gondola is scenic and fun! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They reviewed the trail map with me and gave me route recommendations based on the trail conditions following a week of heavy snow. The center is equipped with hot water and clean restrooms. I especially appreciated the Caboose Warming Hut along my route - it was such a treat enjoying a warm beverage in a snowy meadow as I took a break from snowshoeing. There were plenty of scenic trails to explore and I enjoyed the views of the lake about 3.5 miles from the center. I brought my own snowshoes and trekking poles, but they have rental gear if needed. This was a fun way to spend the day while my friends went skiing. Definitely beats waiting in the village. ;)

I have held a season pass to Northstar Ski Resort for six consecutive years; however, an experience…read moreat the resort left me feeling utterly frustrated. The conditions here seem to deteriorate with each passing year. First, the resort's mobile app is extremely unreliable. The app often indicates that certain trails have just been groomed by snowcats, yet when I actually go to ski them, I discover that several runs clearly haven't seen a groomer in days. This dissemination of false information is not only misleading but also jeopardizes skier safety and severely detracts from the overall guest experience. Furthermore, last month, the Comstock lift experienced frequent operational failures, attributable to staff handling, which clearly demonstrates an urgent need for professional staff training. Second, the management here appears to be extremely lax. During the early morning hours a time when operational efficiency should be at its absolute peak, staff members were observed sitting around chatting in plain sight, completely neglecting their duties. This lackadaisical attitude projects an image of extreme unprofessionalism to the public. Worse still, a male employee working at the ski lifts displayed a rude and highly aggressive attitude. This abysmal level of customer service is absolutely unacceptable, particularly at a ski resort that is supposed to prioritize the "guest experience" above all else. In summary, this was a deeply disappointing experience. Management must take full responsibility for the current situation and immediately implement measures to effectively enhance staff training and supervision. I hope the next ski season brings with it a completely renewed experience.
