Visited Donna's Margate location for their jerk chicken lunch special and was sadly disappointed. I should have turned and walked out after seeing the interaction between the cashier (Kaya) and an elderly woman in front of me who requested steamed vegetables instead of salad. Talk about nickel & diming... basically forcing the lady to pay $2 plus and then when the server dished out her veggies, told the server 'that's too much vegetables, put some back!' Never in my life would I accept such attitude. I go up to order and boric the lunch specials went up to $8.99 with a drink... Kaya bagged up everything and handed me. No drink cup... when I asked for the cup she very rudely told me the machine is broken and they're not giving out drinks! Any business that wants to stay in business would realize when something is out, FIND A REPLACEMENT TO KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY!!!! There was a fully stocked refrigerator with canned drinks, why not offer those I asked Kaya... the response was that the offer is only for fountain drinks. Absolutely repulsive attitude & by the looks of the establishment, I am not the only one who won't be returning back! Your owner should be ashamed to have such representation of their business and if it continues I would be glad to see this location closed. read more

I hate to write this because I have been a loyal customer of this Donna's location for years, but my most recent visit will likely be my last. Over the past year, the quality of both the food and the service has declined significantly. The curry chicken with rice and peas, which used to be one of my favorite dishes, was extremely under-seasoned and lacked the flavor that Donna's is known for. On several visits they have also been out of plantains, with no effort to offer an alternative side or solution. What was most disappointing, however, was the overall condition of the restaurant. Multiple tables were dirty, making it difficult for customers to even sit down and enjoy their meal inside. It gave the impression that there is very little attention being paid to the customer experience. This location used to be a dependable spot with great food and service, which is why it's so frustrating to see such a noticeable decline. I truly hope management takes the time to address these issues and bring the quality back to what it once was. read more

Came here because I was craving some Jamaican food. I got the brown stew chicken with rice and beans and sweet plantains. They were out of cabbage which I was upset about. I was actually looking forward to it so I had to substitute for salad instead the food is OK they do give a lot of food but honestly, the brown chicken stew was a little bit dry for me And I don't know it was like lacking some flavor. They have fresh juice. I always get their ginger pineapple juice, which is so good. The place is clean. They have chairs where you can sit and eat or take your food to go. read more

I was really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. Not only were they out of what I wanted to order they were short and dismissive. I felt like I was bothering them by asking a simple question. Running out of ingredients happens But the way it's handled makes all the difference unfortunately, the service made the matter worse instead of offering another suggestion or an apology then employee came off as rude and uninterested. The food was not that great. We have been ordering from them for years and it just keeps disappointing us. They have lost a customer! read more

I wanted soup and the lady want to sell me soup with no meat and charge me the same price. insane why would I want that! also if the soup don't have any meat and it's at the bottom of the pot it needs to be removed. what have these restaurants come too ..want to serve scraps now and charge you full price. thats why these restaurants would not stay in business if they keep on treating people this way. so NO THANK YOU!! read more

We've got grumpy service with delicious food. I guess the service is overloaded because the jerk chicken it's just that good.

We arrived to visit family and they recommended Caribbean food in Margate. We ordered the oxtail dish and the brown stew chicken. My hubby and myself loved the oxtail, the brown stew was okay, rice was okay and the cabbage okay. Service was friendly and food is pre - made so there's very little waiting. A nice spot especially after a nice drive. read more

$15 for a small plate of food that is inedible! Wow the food and service here was TERRIBLE! It is carelessly served from staff who have a horrible demeanor. There is an older lady manager that has been sabotaging this businesses by purposely giving customers rude service as well as wrong portion sizes. The plantain were all burnt and couldn't be served. The jerk pork was majority fat pieces with only one piece of meat that was edible. The rice was good but the way the manager slopped the food on the plate made it look disgusting. This manager has no heart for serving food and the well-being of her customers as the face for this location. She is rude to the other workers which makes it awkward as a customer and she's rude to customers. I've given this location chance after chances spending thousands of dollars over the years but the buck stops now! I will never and make sure everyone knows how terrible the food and experience has been. This is one location that will end up with a new owner once the business dries up because the reviews on here and google are echoing mine. read more

I love their oxtail and husband loves their stewed chicken but holy hell the service is always ungodly slow. They definitely take island time to another level but we always just keep coming back because the food is delicious and the price is just right. We got the jerk chicken once and it was just a bit dry for us. We just stick with the oxtail and stewed chicken and love their slaw when they do have it. Most of the time they don't but def ask for it and get the slaw in place of the salad, it'll be a nice treat for your palate. It's not the Mayo based slaw like most places. Adds a nice acidic note to the heavy platter. read more

The food was the worst I ever had First I ordered online when I went to pick up they didn't have jerk pork or plantain they tried to substitute with out asking then they gave the worst attitude like it was my fault they was out food. And they refused to give a refund when I asked to just cancel my order I will never ever go back read more

The food is authentic and delicious. Great for a quick bite to eat or sit down to eat. They have outside seating as well.

Just moved from New York, and today I wanted Curry Goat. So I checked to see what's in the neighborhood. Came across Donna's and decided to check it out. First most the customer service was zero. From the way the food looks I should have walked out, but I went ahead and order the curry goat which was horrible, the meat did not taste like goat. I promise that I will never go there again or tell anyone about this place. read more

Hadn't been to Donna's in a while and I was craving some oxtails...boy was I disappointed . After waiting in line for close to 30 minutes, once I tasted the food I wish I hadn't. The oxtails were tough and very bland. After reading several reviews with the same complaint, management may want to make some changes. I've been a customer since they first opened on Broward Blvd with $5 lunch specials and I'd hate to give up on them...hoping it was just an off day but if this keeps happening, I will have to. read more

The food was absolutely DISGUSTING!!! Very bland and it wasn't fresh at all, this is the 2nd time at this location, there will not be a 3rd. If negative stars were an option thats exactly what I'd give this establishment. read more

Every time I come to this location boy lemme tell yall. Okay first of all that big behind red lady always has an attitude and be skimping the hell out of the portions. And even if you're polite she still has an attitude. Especially they don't even hand you receipts or offer you. I politely asked for a receipt and the woman got upset when I grabbed the receipt, she didn't wanna hand it to me or even talk to me. Super weird energy. read more

This is a chain. But you wouldn't know it by the food. You order and pay at the counter. They do a huge take out business too. But there are about 10 tables and you should be able to find a seat. Just got their #1 oxtail which I got with peas and rice, salad, and plantains. I asked for gravy overall. This was some of the best oxtail I've eaten in a very long time. The oxtail was rich and meaty. The dark brown sauce so flavorful that I was constantly licking my fingers. Their peas and rice is with red beans (habichuelas) rather than Bahamian "peas" and it's mixed into the rice like congris. A small order was still a Very large portion. The plantains were sweet, thin and well cooked. The "salad" was like a slaw in a vinegary slightly sweet dressing -- shredded cabbage, thinly sliced red peppers, carrots and cukes. Very refreshing. My husband's brown stew chicken lunch was equally delicious. Oh my god. Then there was the coconut cake. Got a slice to go but thought I'd just taste it.. wow. Moist. Coconut aroma wafting all through, under a soft buttery and creamy frosting with more coconut. I'm in heaven.. Will be back anytime I'm in this neighborhood. Soooo good! read more

Most of the time I've been ordering my meals to go. It's very busy on location but I do like the oxtail and stew peas the most.

I can't say anything other than *chefs kiss* for this place. I was in and out thankfully there was no line. 650 pm and the food was hot ready and waiting for me. Everything was clean, there was a cook, a front service clerk and someone cleaning and sanitizing the space as I walked in. Everyone I spoke to was polite and the food is so good! Perfect amount of salt, fall off the bone meat... ugh I have a new favorite Jamaican spot. Thank you! read more

I am very disappointed, I bought a stew chicken and the chicken is dry and tough. I paid $14 for that! It has been reheated so many times that you can't even chew it! I'm really upset . I had to throw it to the garbage. It was today 9/3/21 read more

The food is over priced and the portion sizes are not worth what they are charging the patrons. Their fritters are decent, however, went there last week and was sold burned fritters. On top of that it tasted like the oil wasn't fresh when they were fried. I used to frequent Donna 's in years past, however, with their poor customer service and food quality it'll be a while before I patronize their Margate restaurant. They need to revamp their staff starting with some of the management staff!!! read more

Running errands and drive through strip center to see if anything appealed for lunch.... and there she was ... DONNA'S . We both enjoy good Caribbean food and this place has GOOD CARIBBEAN food! Choices for lunch specials come Small/Large. We choice the small lunch entrees which come with rice and peas, salad/slaw and sweet plantains. My wife chose the Oxtail I'm brown gravy and I chose the Brown Stew Chicken. If they ask you if you want gravy, say YES! GRAVY all over! Please! Don't be shy about eating your meat off the bone to get to every tasty morsel and there at lots of good sized sections of tender meat to enjoy! I asked for some hot sauce and vinegar (Southern thing ... South Jamaica in this case)to top my rice and peas which already had some savory gravy. The slaw is slightly sweet with a nice vinegar in with the cabbage, red and green peppers, carrots and cucumbers. Every bite of each was delightful with a pause to take a bite of the sweet plantains. My wife did share a couple bites if her coconut cake (2). I am not a fan of butternut frosting but this frosting not only had generous bits of fresh coconut, but was infused with coconut flavoring! The cake was moist and very coconutty! What a find! 441 just south of Sample...a couple doors north of Penn Dutch. read more

#reheated. I don't understand why the rice portions is so much compared to the skimpy portion of meat. This is a medium size. Jerk chicken tastes bland all the time. I pulled the meat to top plate to show the difference. #annoyed read more

I have reviewed the other Donna locations but never this one. I came to this restaurant today with my cousin. I ordered a large fried chicken with extra rice and peas with oxtail gravy and my cousin ordered a small brown stew chicken with rice and peas. After leaving the restaurant, my cousin open her container to find a fly cooked into the rice. So we had to turn around and return the food. I will say the customer service of the line workers can be improved. It seems as the workers move from location to location and the same workers are always rude. read more

Watch out for the bones and chunks of fat in the curry goat! I ordered the #2 combo which included rice and beans, plantains, and a small salad. The server asked me what size (?) and I said small. The order completely filled the sectioned take-out container. The taste was good. I also picked up a beef patty which had been kept warm under a heat lamp. The pastry and meat were very dry. I would not order again. Prices are not posted, majority of menu is taped over, and dirty tables. read more

This place is great! I'm a Jamaican who can't cook Jamaican, it's a 2019 goal, but I've been wanting a good plate of Oxtail, Rice and Peas and husband has had a hankering for a beef patty. We have seen this place for 2 years and we always go too late in the day so they are out of everything or we just never stop. Well, we won't make that mistake again. The food is amazing. The oxtail was delicious, the rice and peas was made perfect. The flavor was on point and the price wasn't bad. I paid for 2 drinks, a medium oxtail dinner and 1 beef patty and it cost $16. The only thing I will say is that the patties aren't that good, they are passable but Golden Crust patties are much better! read more

Was in a mood to try something different and decided to give Donna's a try. Totally not disappointed! It's in the plaza next to Penn Dutch market. Nothing fancy but the food is very good! I ordered the ox tail dinner which was very hardy serving! Melt off the bone meat, and the rice with pigeon peas and gravy bursting with flavor! It's served in styrofoam containers so don't get dressed up for this place it's very casual. Cash or credit is accepted and there is ample parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is friendly and quick! This will be a go to spot for me the next time I'm craving Caribbean food! Try them out! read more

I LOVE the jerk chicken, the lunch specials are priced very appropriately. I wish it included a drink. The rice is probably my personal favorite. I could come here just for the rice and peas ( covered in oxtail gravy) Customer service is usually a little slow, and staff isn't always so pleasant. Kind of rude. read more

The customer service there is horrible, I had bad experiences there with the workers before and it gets worst every time. There's one or two workers that will be friendly, but the bad out shines the good. Never going back there, and I'm done recommend people there. Not even worth one star. The worst part is that I'm Jamaican and I appreciate good food, which they provide. It hurts me to write a review like this, but I think people like me, that appreciate good customer service, needs to see this. I think they need to retrain the staff in customer service. I don't recommend you to go there for pick up. I recommend delivery or just choose another place to eat. I kept on going because or the food, but from the last experience I had, I'm done. read more

Not sure what happened to this place. I've frequented Donna's various locations for many years and this Margate location for 5 + years. It's been about 2 months since my last visit and it will probably be my last. The curry goat was tough as a goat and the gravy was thick and damn near tasteless. My wife's brown stew chicken had nice gravy but the chicken was almost all bones and hardly any meat. She ended up giving up and just throwing the whole meal in the trash. My daughter said her curry chicken was good. The steamed veg were good as usual. Not sure if it's just this location or Donna's in general but definitely disappointed. I always try to support the local Mom and Pop places but Golden Crust will get my future business in north Broward read more

I ordered a medium soup and ask the lady if there was food in it and her answer was yes, only to get home and nothing but a few pieces of meat, why not tell me the truth and let me decide if I just want soup broth or not. There was a long line out the door for a reason!!! Waited 20 minutes and then had true homemade Jamaican magic. It was awesome. I had curried goat that fell off the bone and was so delicious. Whole family enjoied the food. Don't look at the line with dispair... it's worth the wait. read more

I have ordered about 4 to 5 times and each time the food was not the best. However, I believe in second chances, so I thought I would give it another try. I ordered the jerk chicken and a brown stew snapper. Unfortunately, the food was not good, again. As a Jamaican, I expected flavor and this was flavorless. If I had my eyes closed I would not know that I was eating rice and peas or jerk chicken. Tasted like unflavored baked chicken and the fish was no better. My 15-year-old daughter used ketchup to give it some flavor. I called the store, not to get back a refund, but to inform them about the food. She didn't seem so concerned, so I decided to write the review. I have never called to report my dissatisfaction, but I was compelled because I had ordered multiple times hoping that the food would improve. I will not be purchasing at this store again. read more

I literally just took $48.00 and flushed it down the toilet. This is the second time being completely disappointed with this Donna's location. The oxtail was extremely salty with no flavor, rice and peas was dry. Jerk chicken was also flavorless tasted more like steam chicken. I hate to write a negative review but this is unacceptable, I ended up throwing away the food. Never again!! read more
