My coworker told me that this is the best Philly cheesesteak and I finally was driving through the area on a trip to Philly, so I had to stop. I'm no expert, but I can say this was very good and I'm glad I finally tried it. I loved the non-traditional roll. The addition of poppy seeds was great. I was wishing they had some indoor seating today since it was cold and raining, but it was delicious so I didn't care that I had to eat in my car. They were even nice enough to bring it to my car for me so I didn't have to go out in the rain again.

OMG!! This was my first visit to this Donkey's Place in Mount, Laurel, NJ and I had the BEST customer service experience ever!! The girls were a ray of sunshine, smiles and super friendly! Then I met Jim who was just as nice, friendly with the biggest smile ever!! This is a takeout only spot with plenty of outdoor seating and lots of free parking. The foods smell absolutely AMAZING and SUPER delicious!!! YES!!! I do recommend Donkey's Place to my family, friends and, NOW, the World too!!! Check them out!!

Just like the original! Irrespective of which Donkey's Place you visit, the steaks are great, just like the originals in Camden or Medford, which were the prior two locations. Whether you grab steak or chicken, they are thin sliced and stacked on a poppy seed bun. If you ask for onions like I do, know that it will be generously loaded up with fried onions. I get mine with provolone and ask them not to sprinkle finishing salt on top because it is already well seasoned. This truly is a great cheesesteak. There are some interesting sides to choose from but the onion rings are great, and one order is much even when sharing. There's plenty of parking and there is more seating albeit outdoor seating. There's also a giant connect four on premises to entertain while you wait for your grub. This restaurant is setback off Main Street and is really hard to find the first time, even with GPS. Look for the signs or ask where the local police department is as a nearby landmark, as this restaurant is located across from the local PD.

No indoor seating. Pick up only.

If you're looking for an experience similar to the original Donkey's Place, this place leaves much to be desired. The location of the building sits back in the middle of a parking lot off the main streets, so you best play close attention as you navigate toward by car. There are a few small lawn signs posted in the surrounding area that are helpful in leading you through the back alleys from the main drag. Once I reached my destination, I was ready to eat but first had to tinkle. Sadly there is no restroom facility for patrons. Nor is there any indoor seating. This joint is made for walk-up grab n go style orders with one window for orders and another for pick ups. On the upside, the sun was welcoming this day, so I chose to hold my pee while I ate outdoors to soak up some rays and dose up on vitamin d. I do wish my cheesesteak sandwich had the same flavor as the ones I tasted from the original Donkey's Place; it "came close but no cigar" as Jay Z puts it. I guess that is due to the fact that the original location has been around so long that the flavor comes from grill itself. This location in Mt Holly obviously is very young in existence and it's staffed by youngsters who looked no older than college freshmen. When it comes to authenticity in original cookeries, some things (like time and experience) just can't be replicated elsewhere.

I've been trying to visit a Donkeys location for several years now. I was near the original and spin-off many times, but couldn't convince a co-diner to go. They are certainly legendary in S Jersey, and after trying one, it's easy to see why. I like steak sandwiches. They don't have to adhere to Philly norms for me to enjoy them. I look for tender meat, good roll, and that care was given to cooking the onions. This sandy checked all of those boxes and more. I like seeded Kaiser rolls, this one was bigger than most and able to withstand a pile of ingredients. The meat is thicker than the standard chopped, but still very tender and nicely seasoned. The onions were cooked thoroughly and lightly browned, and this had to be the most I've ever had on even sandwiches twice the size. The slight ding would be that the provolone cheese was overpowered by them. A small order of fries seemed bigger than I expected and with a light dusting of seasoning, I liked them. I also made a rookie mistake of only ordering 1 panzarotti, this upscale take on Genos pizza rolls could be addictive. Also noteworthy is the unique condiments available, a spicy ketchup and a pepper relish too. This is strictly to go unless an outdoor table is available and weather permits. Service was quick and friendly. 4% discount if using cash. It's probably a good thing I'm over 20 minutes away......

MOUNT HOLLY: "The best cheese steak in the area might well come from New Jersey." Anthony Bourdain Donkey's Place Downtown is right in the center of downtown Mount Holly, surrounded by the Northern Rancocoas Creek. Order at the window and enjoy the park-like outdoor seating. The cheesesteaks are famous in NJ, especially for their huge poppy seed roll! They also offer a veggie sandwich with French fries, onion rings, onions, and more veg! Enjoy the food on-site or bring it to Village Idiot Brewing Company, Spellbound Brewing, or Train Wreck Distillery!

This take out only Donkey's Place is located in the large county complex parking lots in Mt. Holly, NJ. You can reach it from either the main entrance to that County lot or off Washington Avenue. It is certainly worth finding if extra juicy extra meaty extra cheesy cheesesteaks are your culinary comfort food passion. As is well known about this local three shop dynamo, all that weight comes on a large poppy seed kaiser roll. We waited 15 minutes for my name to be called to the pick up window. We decided to eat on one of their picnic tables rather than loose the apex flavors right from the grill. It was a chilly overcast afternoon, but we were content to bear the weather and focus intently on the hefty sandwiches. They use heavy gauge wax paper to hold all the juice that collects on the bottom of the wrapped sammy. The roll holds up pretty well, but the bottom bread does absorb a lot of wet steak essence. Needed two hands to hold it together and bite around the circumference to catch as much drip as possible, and then slowly chew my way to its circular heart. Used about a dozen of their too thin napkins to get to the finish. My eyes may have deceived me, but there seemed to be way more beef and sautéed onions in this opus than an equivalent torpedo roll "steak" at other places. My stomach reported that there was almost twice as much! The only real issue is the mess these babies make while attempting to devour them. From the puddle of juice at the bottom of the wrapping paper, to the surfeit of translucent onions falling out of the sandwich with almost every bite, to the flimsiness of the napkins that are not really up to the task of containing the effusive load nor wiping lips and fingers; Donkey's needs to do something about improving absorbency and offering a way to address the mess. Perhaps, surgical gloves? Otherwise, I loved the aroma of these creations on my hands on the drive home, and didn't mind those tiny poppy seeds clinging to my fingers either.

Take-out only...first week, waiting in line.

I've been to Donkey's in Camden and Medford...this is just as good. I feel like their price point for the area may be a little high; but the product is quality (get what you pay for). If you aren't a fan of poppy seed kaiser rolls, just a heads up if you've never had one; that's what it comes on. Hopefully the court crowds, lawyers, and locals keep them around. There are other cheesesteak places in the area, but it's always nice to have options; especially good ones. UPDATED: I wrote the review as I took my first few bites...changed it to 5 stars. Forgot how truly good and big the sandwich really was. The fries, which I never had at the other locations were phenomenal. The onion rings were nice as well. So full, definitely be back soon, just hoping they have the pepper relish next time. Grand opening is Monday the 11th. Check them out.

BOOM! Sorry Philly folks, but this might be the best cheesesteak I've ever had, and I've eaten them all over Philly, Delaware, and New Jersey. It's larger than it looks in photos, heavy and dense with tender steak. The flavor is what sets it apart. The seasoning is spot-on, and set it apart from other cheesesteaks. I added a bit of complimentary hot pepper relish for a little extra zing. Seriously, give this a try. Didn't try the fries or onion rings, will save for next time. Also very friendly service which is somewhat unusual at steak shops.

Yummmm!!! Mt Holly…read moreis a bit of a hike for me but Im in the area on occasion to visit one of my two besties/to house/dog sit. After my taxes were done nearby, I turned to Yelp for a good (to me - not thin crust or too weird of toppings) pizza place as I had a craving and don't believe in ritzy overpriced Valentines Day dinners. Im too realistic and think it's BS! We were warmly welcomed and we were drooling over the pizza selections - one even had garlic knots adorning the crust! I liked the simple, yet pretty decor. Also the big red (my favorite color) square plates. We got two menus then sat down, selected our choices, then paid. My Sir is Sicilian, as are the owners. Very nice family and a brief conversation with the son (some in Italian) :) My regular size calzone was huge! (I can't even imagine what the "large" looks like!!!) The white pizza was perfect - the taste, crust, and "pull!" Both were very, very good - perfect ratios and "cheese-alicious!" They have a solid selection of fountain drinks and I saw a small fridge of beautiful looking desserts. Street parking was no problem. Very fair prices too. I'll remember this place when Im in the area again - no need to look elsewhere for this pizza lover! Thanks again Yelp!

But the service that is amazing and all the smiling staff here make up for anything that I don't see on the menu. The place is really well put together and is a very handsome bar it's mostly very wooden and heavy duty. The ambience is something for everyone on the TV or you can just chitchat. They even have this little side room that is nice but beware and bring a coat or a sweater cause it does get chilly in there. They're always seems like a really great group of people there and our favorite waitress is KB/Kristen. She is truly amazing and very attentive, but not annoying. We love their chicken fajitas and steak fajitas, the Cheesesteaks are delish! But My Newest Favorite for the Moment..... is the "We Jammin Burger". It has bacon onion Jam on it and it is amazing! I didn't think that I would like it as Much as I do! But I Realllllllly Do! I'm not really a burger fan... like my husband Is, But THIS BURGER..... has been a Game changer for Me. Warning: Make room in your fridge... because You will definitely bring leftovers home. This meal can feed a family of 4 Easily!! Their Cajun quesadilla is delicious and it does have a nice little zing. Their traditional wings are amazing and their beef stew is delicious and very hearty. We have tried many of their specialties. The Hail Mary is a delicious Caesar salad on top of chicken cutlets and their Broccoli Chicken Cheesesteak is amazing. I recommend you get it pressed on the grill and that way it won't fall out as you bite each delicious bite. I would say 80 to 90% of the visits that we have had at this amazing establishment. We always bring home leftovers. So be aware that you were going to have lunch for tomorrow. You will get to the point where you will just think of something to eat that they have on their menu and your mouth will just start to drool. We definitely recommend going. I'm not a huge drinker so I really can't say much as for their drinks but everyone there seems very happy and the portions are huge. I definitely say try it, what's the worst that happens you have leftovers for the next day or two lol It is my husband and my favorite new place that's been around forever Hey, maybe we'll see you there

Pros: Our waitress, Alicia, was an absolute sweetheart and made several great food recommendations,…read moreincluding the hot honey wings, Jammin' burger, and chocolate cake--all of which were very good. The portion sizes were generous; both my burger and the Cheesesteak Deluxe were large enough that we brought leftovers home from both entrées. Cons: Unfortunately, the drinks were not good. I ordered a Downeast Cider on tap and it tasted like the line may not have been cleaned recently. My companion ordered a cosmopolitan that was essentially undrinkable--extremely strong and not well balanced. We later learned the bartender is new, so hopefully that improves with experience. The wings were also served cold, and the Jammin' burger came out without the bacon jam that's supposed to be a key part of the dish. The restaurant itself is also very tight quarters. If you prefer more personal space or feel more comfortable in places where it's easy to move around or exit quickly, this may not be the best spot for you. Overall: The staff was very attentive and clearly tried to make things right after several mistakes occurred. They comped our soda, appetizer, and dessert, which we appreciated. However, given the number of issues during one visit, I'm not sure we'd return.
