We originally loved Dong's Karate - now Blast Martial Arts. However, classes began to get overcrowded & behavior issues impacted how our son was able to learn. We set up a meeting to discuss cancelling about 2-3 months ago. They promised certain things and our son was happy so we continued. At no time were we told we would not be allowed to cancel. Fast forward to now with the same issues - only worse behavior in class without the instructor trying to gain control. I'm very happy that they are growing their business. However, by putting new instructors in with kids and not providing support within the classes, it's not doing the kids any favors - at least the kids there to learn. Our son is starting to have anxiety about going because the classes are out of control (at least for the 7 pm on Tuesday/Thursday nights for kids). I called today to cancel and was told we were not able to. I reminded that we were told we could, but would have a 2 month penalty. I'm fine with that. Now I'm being told we were only told that for the month to month contract. However, that's not true. Be careful to read over contracts when signing - if something they are saying is not in it ensure they add it with their signature. To be clear though, it states no FEES will be refunded. We paid a tuition cost - it's not identified as a fee on the contract. However, our contract states we would receive quality instruction. Well they are breaking the contract themselves there with that. If quality instruction was being provided, then my son would be able to hear the instructor when he's demonstrating what to do. Not have 75%+ of a class being so loud and disruptive that no one can hear. And that instructor not attempt to get the class under control. This has not been a one night time - it's occured multiple times. As a teacher myself, I pride myself on providing quality instruction and can not fathom how Blast Martial Arts is thinking they are providing it. I wish no ill will but do not appreciate being lied to. At our first meeting to cancel, I was told my son would receive time each class where he would work one-on-one with Master Sutton or some instructor. That happened that class only. Now I'm being told I was supposed to set those times up - was never told I needed to. Look elsewhere if a quality learning environment is what you wish. read more
