So when I was setting up my tour, obviously I played Leeds on Monday, Bradford on Tuesday, and…read more.. duh... Sheffield Wednesday. A She-Field is basically a female version of a He-Field, and it's way better in every way than a He-Field. So now you know. Bell Biv Devoe. First-Hand Experience: I'm lucky enough to have seen Sheffield Wednesday live on 6 or 7 occasions, including in the very old days down in Oxford, and of course at their home stadium more recently. Which was very sad for me. This team is a brilliant team that is a giant of the English game. I have to separate them from their stadium which was a death trap and a heartbreaking place for any Liverpool fan. They were formed in 1867 and so are one of the oldest teams in the world. They're currently in the second tier but are a fallen giant, along with Sheffield United, and belong back in the big time as soon as possible. They were originally a cricket club which is kind of boring. The club played only on Wednesdays, hence the name of the team now. They play in boring blue and white. The Arctic Monkeys, Gary Cahill, Paul Carrack, Jarvis Cocker, Michael Palin, Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead and Def Leppard all supposedly support the Owls. Yes they're nicknamed the Owls, how adorable. They have won the Premier League 4 times, in 1903, 1904, 1929 and 1930, so some really amazing pedigree there. They won the League Cup as recently as 1991 when they were still a top team, and they won the FA Cup in 1896, 1907 and 1935, so their trophy cabinet is definitely full and impressive. They've spent 66 seasons in the top division, but not since the year 2000, so hopefully they'll be back soon. The reviews here that are for the stadium need to be moved to the new stadium listing. They once beat Geri Halliwell 12-0. I'd rather join her than beat her. Chris Waddle, Des Walker, Marc Degryse, Paolo Di Canio, David Hirst, were a few of the legends here. Sheridan, Harkes, Wegerle too. Americans before Americans were cool. Just don't ever go and watch them on a Tuesday or a Thursday. It'll end badly.

We arrived knowing the store closed in 20 minutes, so we were trying to move quickly, but there were so many fun and interesting things to explore that we had a difficult time choosing. We had plans to purchase a lot of merchandise, but unfortunately, the gentleman working there told us we only had two minutes left and made us feel rushed. It really dampened the experience, and we ended up cutting our shopping short. We definitely would have spent more if we hadn't felt pressured to leave so quickly. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise great visit.

Lots of people are tripping over their own laces at the moment in Sheffield, it's an epidemic. I…read morethink it's because of this team, known as "Sheffield Untied." They have a habit of playing practical jokes on people by untying their laces. Horrible horrible business, I tell thee. First-Hand Experience: I've seen them play at home maybe 3 times. They have won every single time I've been there. I've never seen them play away, but I don't need to, to know that I love them. What a club, what a fan base. They are the pride of Sheffield. Their fans are even louder than rival Wednesday fans. Their stadium is a cauldron. Their intensity, their history... I can't wait to see them back in the Prem one day. So SUFC are one of the great clubs of the UK. Absolutely legendary team full of history and glory. They're one of the biggest teams outside the top flight, and may even be the single biggest outside the top 2 divisions. Formed in 1889, the Blades are managed by the legendary Nigel Clough (son of legendary Brian) and their amazing stadium holds 32k, which is more than most Premier League stadiums. They compete in the Steel City Derby with Wednesday, another great club. Sean Bean supports them. Hotties Alex Hammond and Jessica Ennis support them too, as well as Michael Palin. One of their songs is called The Greasy Chip Butty Song. Wow. The movie "When Saturday Comes" with Sean Bean features this club a lot, he even goes on to play for them in a Semi Final. In Batman Begins, someone is wearing a United shirt. They're connected to Sao Paulo in Brazil and Estudiantes in Argentina. They were champs of England in 1898. Runners up twice around the same time. FA Cup winners an impressive 4 times, in 1899, 1902, 1915, 1925. So all in all, a definite five star club with a five star history, and one of the greats that belong in the Prem and hopefully will get back there soon. Brian Deane demands it.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - this isn't really a famous stadium, but the oldest team in the world - or UK - or something, plays here. It's called the Coach and Horses, and I had a great time here, talking about the history and about possible romantic encounters with my friend Katy from Doncaster. I don't think the facilities are great, and hardly anyone turns up, so I can't give it more than a 3, but we still had a great time. That was back in 2011. I owe this place another trip, the sooner the better. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This tiny little stadium in Sheffield is where the oldest team in the country plays. The stadium is attached to a pub. It's a classic, but it's really not a very good facility so it can't score more than a 3. But I can score more than 3.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I was friends with a player (Taggart), or rather my Dad was. I went to see them play here when I was a kid and then came back for another concert in 2011 when on tour. Both times, the crowd was loud and intense, and both times, Barnsley were held to a draw. The crowd aside, I think it's a fantastic and underrated stadium that manages to keep the noise in. It's a real credit to League One, which doesn't have many facilities this good. I always loved coming to this place, to see games or otherwise, and look forward to the next time I get the chance. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This is one of the more impressive stadiums outside the top two tiers, probably because it's historically been inside the top two tiers. The stadium houses a team, Barnsley, who have never really achieved greatness or punched at their weight, spending one solitary season in the top flight, one time, and it went pretty badly. They've won a few play off finals but no silverware. Their stadium is much more impressive than the team's track record. There are 3 or 4 other reviews for this stadium, but they're incorrectly placed under the "Barnsley FC" listing, and should be moved here since they're not about Barnsley FC and only about this stadium. One of the tiers is totally huge, kind of like my exs when I broke up with her. Nice hills in the background and a really impressive stadium, but some of the sides are not yet closed in and so I'll keep it as a 4/5 but it's very close to being a 5 with a few modifications.

Living in farmhouses is fun, but living in barns leys something to be desired. This team has had…read moremany a barnstorming performances, and they've managed to barn all of the hooligans from attending so that's good. First-Hand Experience: I've been to see them at home a few times and my old friend played for them which I'll tell you about in a minute. I have masses of respect for Barnsley and they have a fantastic support base and a great stadium, but the team itself has always been a little uninspiring to me, and so I'll give them a 3 rather than a 4. I did enjoy seeing them live though, every single time. Formed in 1887, I have a personal connection to this team because my Dad's team (Milan FC based in Oxford) once had a player named Taggart, who smashed the ball so hard off the field one time, that it knocked me off a wall and winded me. That same guy had a brother, who was the captain of Barnsley, and the captain of Northern Ireland. He has gone down in history as one of the greatest Barnsley players ever. He even led them to the promised land of the Premier League, where they performed badly. Now they are down in the third tier of English football, but they have an impressive 23k stadium and hope that they will get back up there at some point. They are known as the Tykes because they go around spreading their seed and having children with as many women as possible. And they play in red and white. They once recently knocked Rafa's Liverpool (my Liverpool) out of the FA Cup. I respect the club a lot and they have a great stadium but as they've never really made their mark on the game, I'm keeping them as a 3.

The majority of the stadium was redeveloped in the 1990's, so has a fresh, but traditional feel to it. This of course is barring the West Stand, which by the looks of it has only recieved new seats in a large number of years! Oakwell also encompasses several smaller venues on the site which form the facilities of the Barnsley FC Academy. These include an indoor training pitch, smaller stadium and several training pitches. As an away fan, you'll be seated in the North Stand, which is the most recent development of the stadium. I believe it houses approximately 6000 fans, but rarely is the full allocation given to most teams. The facilities are good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The usual food and drink options for a football ground are available. Alcohol is served on matchdays, although if you are a local rival or a team known to cause trouble, expect it to not be served on yours! For drinking before the match, the safest place is probably at the Barnsley Metrodome, a few mins walk (up the hill) from the away end. Nice ground compared to many, worth a visit.

First-Hand Experience: I love going to watch women's football, and not for the obvious sexist reasons. I like to support it, I genuinely like to watch it sometimes more than the men's game, and this is one of the better and more historic women's teams in the world, which is bizarre since it's such a tiny town and the men of Rovers are not that great. I have seen them play at home twice, and away three times. I'm sure I'll be seeing them again as I go to a lot of women's football. My only complaint is that they don't get bigger crowds, but it's not their fault. They're a wonderful and stand-up team. One of the most famous women's teams in the country and a credit to the Rovers and the city of Doncaster. They play in yellow and are hugely successful. They were formed in 69, as so many of us were. Including Bryan Adams. The Canadian government has apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions. They've won the league twice and the women's FA Cup 6 times. A true legend of the game.

Then I visited again as a teen, following Oxford United around, but didn't go into the game because I was distracted by a girl. However I did go to the stadium after the game and hung out with the fans and we even went inside. The away fans, that is. So I do have very good memories of it despite not being inside during the game. However I have to say that from both my trips here, it was just very average really.
