When I heard about this place I could not believe it existed, I thought someone was playing a practical joke on me. Donaghadee Polo Club? It does not even sound right. Donaghadee is a town associated with its lighthouse, lifeboat and teenagers drinking cider by the Moat but Polo, no way! I had to see it with my own eyes.
Polo is the royal sport played by Prince Harry and William yet here it is being held in Donaghadee, bold and brash the riders are agile and mobile they ooze elegance. I did not dare have a go, I can barely stay on my own feet on a football pitch let alone stay on a horse and hold a stick at the same time.
I was advised that the game is available for all ages and Donaghadee Polo club welcomes new members but it is advantageous to have some riding experience.
The staff were kind and friendly and seem to have real passion for everything equestrian, they also informed me that lessons are available for anyone interested. Who'd have thought polo in Donaghadee, I am still in shock. read more
