Donaghadee is a town associated with its lighthouse, lifeboat and teenagers drinking cider by the Moat but Polo, no way! I had to see it with my own eyes. Polo is the royal sport played by Prince Harry and William yet here it is being held in Donaghadee, bold and brash the riders are agile and mobile they ooze elegance. I did not dare have a go, I can barely stay on my own feet on a football pitch let alone stay on a horse and hold a stick at the same time. I was advised that the game is available for all ages and Donaghadee Polo club welcomes new members but it is advantageous to have some riding experience. The staff were kind and friendly and seem to have real passion for everything equestrian, they also informed me that lessons are available for anyone interested. Who'd have thought polo in Donaghadee, I am still in shock.

Nowadays its more practical and safer to join a gun club where your shooting in a controlled environment and with supervision at proper targets or clay pigeons. I'm not sure if you even need a gun license to shoot if you don't actually own a gun, it would be worth checking out. I haven't been shooting in years but often drive past hallow farm and hear the shots wishing I was having a go. The area seems to be a good size and you can see areas of the ground almost turned orange with shards of broken clays from the road further up the hill.

Artistic gymnastics like you see at the olympics, acrobatics a la Spelbound, cheerleading, adult classes and loads more are offered by this club. Very competitvely priced, kids pay per term depending on what class they want to join. Youngest daughter goes for about 12 hours a week and quite simply adores it. Antrim hockey club also use the clubhouse for functions. The alcohol in the clubhouse is very cheap making it good for a few pints they often have fundraising events where the bar is open to the public.
