Where do I begin?…read more Israeli food in Mexico City? Did not have that on my bingo card. Boy did it deliver The service the good the simple ambiance all yummy.

We stumbled into Merkava after flying into CDMX. Our Airbnb was not available yet so we wanted a…read morecomfortable, air conditioned restaurant where we could kill at least 1.5 hours. Merkava is a beautiful little restaurant in La Condesa with both indoor and outdoor seating. As mentioned, we were tired from traveling and picked the cool, indoor seating and enjoyed the nice decor. We started with hummus and, not realizing it came with pita, also ordered the house bread. The hummus was a huge portion, enough to feed a group of 7-8 and came with a pouch of several warm pitas. The hummus was homemade and a bit chunky. The house bread was even better, coils of bread with tahini butter, serrano chili oil, and a tomato cumin sauce. The bread was fantastic, warm from being freshly baked and with buttery layers and the variety of dipping sauces was pleasant for dipping. A show-stopper of a dish was the whole roasted cauliflower served with zaatar, yogurt, and mint. Our head was cut into manageable portions for us, but interestingly, they served the adjacent table with a whole head for a more dramatic presentation. The cauliflower was tender and its mild flavor was enhanced by the zaatar spices. The fish of the day was the better of the two entrees. We liked the sauteed vegetables with lentils that it was served with, much like a ratatouille with lentils, along with a parsley sauce and grilled lemon. The wagyu kebabs were an odd texture, crumbled and dry. The restaurant provided a complimentary bite of dessert, a fruit (date, apricot) baklava of sorts that was a sweet bite to end the meal. All in all, we had a good meal at Merkava.

Merkavá - Delicious! Lots of vegetarian options, the cauliflower (not pictured was great), be prepared to leave very full.

Found myself nearby and was craving some good hummus and other typical Arabic dishes. I've eaten…read moremiddle-eastern food everywhere from Detroit to Dubai to Buenos Aires. I can summarize this restaurant: - Food: above average, nothing spectacular. -Staff Service: The waiter was great and attentive, nothing out of the ordinary. - Cashier/likely the owner: grumpy, didn't look like she wanted to be there. Gave me the dirty look because I added 10% of the check in tip, which all the locals told me is fair. Probably was the Lebanese owner. Mexicans can't be that grumpy. -Price: 320 pesos for a buffet, basically about the same price you'd get in the U.S. or the Emirates. All in all, I wouldn't go back because of the price and the grumpy cashier.

Used to live very close to here and would come here for the BUFFET (can't remember if it's on the…read moreweekends only). For the buffet they got all kinds of Lebanese entrees: grape leaves, stuffed squash, stuffed cabbage, raw kibbeh, baked kibbeh, tabbouleh, hummus, etc. ALSO, This is a great spot for breakfast if you're visiting Viveros or even Frida Kahlo's house. They got Lebanese inspired eggs served with Lebanese jocoque (strained yogurt), spices, olives and pita bread. It was a very special flavor. The egg cazuela with poblano peppers is very tasty and has a super generous amount of cheese, it's spicy! Huevos divorciados are also a Mexican breakfast classic, served with delicious mashed beans. Coffee is very good. Prices are right, you can get the breakfast dish on its own or you can make it a combo (coffee, juice and fresh fruit included)

This Lebanese restaurant purports to offer high-end food at a high-end price. I recommend the…read moresampler dish as a good representation of what this restaurant serves. Service was prompt and friendly at the beginning. I specifically enjoyed the opportunity to observe the arrival of elite Mexican society at this restaurant. I liked that the restrooms were very clean. I recommend visiting this restaurant at dinner time to enjoy the theater of being around elite Mexican society. The warm grape leaves and dips were a special treat. I liked the kabobs because the meat was very tender. If these two very minor issues can be promptly addressed, I think this restaurant has the potential to return to its four-star or possibly climb to a five-star rating. I think hygiene of the restaurant can continue to be enhanced with more integrated pest management in the form of glue-based traps as a small black insect crawled across our table--no surprise as I pointed this out to the staff. Also service can be enhanced toward the end, specifically, two of the left-over dishes we requested for take-out were not included when we got home. Since the price was world-class, I did feel obligated to calibrate this restaurant to a three-star rating to take these issues into account as one expects details like these to be handled. Overall, the food is world-class, ambiance can be further enhanced, opening service is world-class, end-service can also be further enhanced.
