Let…read moreme tell you a story about a young man who was in a dire situation that may have caused the world to miss out of the greatness he was destined for. The year was 2015 and this young man of only seventeen years of age was starving to the point of being near death. It had been a full hour since he last ate and he could feel his body consuming itself for energy. But somehow he was able to get the strength to pick up the phone and call his favorite Italian restaurant and before you know it a heroic driver is on his way to deliver the lifesaving Hot Ham & Cheese sandwich. My life was saved that day. And many days since then I have found myself being saved from my own laziness with the help of DiMaggios and their delicious food.

Like, maybe they don't do subs anymore, I don't know. I decided to try it out one day. I bravely stepped up to the order here line. No one was there, but I heard some crashing and banging in the back. At this point I noticed the door to manager's office was plastered with signs in bold black marker: "IF THIS DOOR IS CLOSED IT IS CLOSED FOR A REASON!" and "SO-AND-SO ARE ON CALL! DO NOT CALL SO-AND-SO FOR ANY REASON!" This was when Joe Rogan came around the corner and asked me if I was still up for this. I heard the cashier at the register call back to the sub person. No answer. So she walked back into the sub kitchen and told the sub person that there was a customer. And I'm thinking, "Please don't be the angry manager please no." The lady that came out seemed very nice. (Relief!). She asked, "Would you like to order a pizza?" I was like, oh no. I'm in the sub line, and she's pushing pizza. I sheepishly replied, "I was hoping to get a footlong turkey club." That's when I knew the wheels were falling off. I could tell it was her worst fear-- please God don't let anyone order a sub today in Jesus name I pray." She was playing deep right field. She looked around for a bit, grabbed her gloves, and came clean: "We haven't made bread today." What I wanted to tell her was that I was sorry. And I should have ordered a pizza. But I knew, for both our sakes, I needed to bounce post haste. To her credit, she went on: "I can see what we have back here..." I was like no just let this go. Day old loaves are good if you're a duck. But this just isn't going to work out. I knew this because one time I went Burger King and they didn't have biscuits at breakfast time. And ordering a crossanwich didn't make things go any more smoothly. This sub failed to launch. She knew it, I knew it. I said no thank you and made my retreat. All the while I was walking away, she was naming off the old breads she had, and I just kept saying "no thank you, no thank you, that's alright..." I got out of there and it was literally 12-noon. I'm not saying they're trying bait-and-switch with pizzas and subs-- but the sub line looks empty for a reason. Good fresh pizza slices are spinning in that little warmer. Leave it at that. I got a salad and sandwich at IGA.
