Food choices were fairly limited, but they had egg and bacon rolls and chicken schnitzel rolls, so brunch seemed adequately covered. Unfortunately, the experience was totally disappointing. The place has had a renovation since last time and looks funky, but at the cost of comfort. The little stools really weren't very nice to sit on. I didn't finish my coffee: both my wife and my coffees were overheated and watery - worst coffee I've had in Hobart. That was topped off with unremarkable food. I won't be going back.

Communal tables mixing it with other stalls at the Brooke Street Pier. Coffee was tasty and interesting. Three different roasts available, the barista recommended an Ethiopian that was up to spec. Service was friendly and helpful. Update: second visit, I asked to try a new roast and the barista offered to make me a sample first to see if it was up to spec. I love you, darlings…read more I was temporarily working out of Brooke St Pier at the start of the year and it was such a blessing knowing that the reward of very good coffee was waiting for me at the end of my morning walk. I am so fond of the "perfect" size cup, and the small selection of baked items is amazingly tasty (if you're around early enough--they don't get replenished; once they're gone, they're gone!). I've had a few people ask me if the Bright Eyes coffee is any good, which is a ridiculous question if you know it's the younger sibling of Pilgrim Coffee. It's WONDERFUL. You can also use your Pilgrim loyalty stamp card at Bright Eyes (and vice versa) and Bright Eyes is open pretty much every day consistently, including public holidays (yet another blessing over the holiday season). I'm actually a little bit sad that work doesn't have me down Brooke Street's way more often, as I miss my regular Bright Eyes dates. No EFTPOS limit, short wait, papers to read while you do. Do not hesitate getting your own caffeine fix here.

I'm smelling what you're stepping in. Criterion St may just be my favourite little stretch of the city, and I think it's because of you and your little takeaway brother, Ecru. (Good idea opening him, it does get crowded in you very easily.) You're not exactly a "lunch" venue, but those noms inside the cabinet hit the spot just fine for morning or afternoon tea. Though to be honest, it's your coffee I sneak in here to visit. Pulling up at your window bench with a flat white is my idea of peace right now.

After passing by the art gallery and the souvenir store, I decided to get an early pick me up. Went to the counter and ordered and espresso. Service was great: polite and quick... just the way I liked it. I noticed that they sold the Tasmanian plush toys raising funds for the fire relief efforts (a noble cause). They have pastries and all sorts of coffee drinks available. For those who want a full on breakfast, you can grab that in the back. I only had my coffee here this morning and unfortunately the beans were a little too acidic for me. All in all, a great little place next to our hotel (Macq01) so I know where to go if I needed to grab something quick in the morning!

The coffee is pretty good too. The Breakfast Tostada however, lacked flavour. Scrambled egg, tomato, avocado, chorizo and tortilla is right up my alley but it just didn't work together - even with a giant chorizo sausage as the main flavour.

No sugar ended up being sweet enough but that'll depend on your personal taste. The staff is nice, the service was fast and the drinks were delicious. While we were sipping our drinks, we heard a customer order 5x tapioca, which we've never heard requested before. Apparently you get capped at 4x, which is more than half the cup. Talk about asking "if you'd like a little tea with your tapioca"!!! There was a rush 10 customers after we ordered and then it died down completely after that (on a Saturday afternoon), so you'll have to be a little lucky with your timing.

It's cute inside, has a little quaint kitschy vibe. There are a few inside seats, but be forewarned they are VERY close together! Navigating with a pram proves quite difficult. They have a small amount of savoury food- toasties, Party pies, that sort of thing and a case filled with sweets. Coffee was above average, nicely strong without a lot of bitterness. The toddler ate the marshmallow, then rubbed babycino froth through his hair. I'm assuming that means he likes it! It's not quite the best coffee and nibbles around, but you could certainly do far worse!
