When he was 11 he was diagnosed with CHF which just made my heart sink, but Dr. Zeleny reassured me that he was not ready for meds yet and he told me what to watch for. As time went on JR was getting sicker a little at a time and Dr. Zeleny would always take as much time as needed to make sure I understood what to watch for and how to make sure we could keep him with us as long as possible. Unfortunately my little guy had to leave us on Sept 17 2013. I cannot thank Dr. Zeleny and all of his staff enough for the excellent and attentive care they gave my little boy. The staff always knew his name and some would come from the back and tell me they have been waiting to see JR, since they knew he was coming in that day. I will always bring all of my dogs to Frankfort Animal Care Ctr. I have worked at vets in the past and since I have had dogs all my life I've had alot of experience with quite a few different vets, and I would recommend Frankfort Animal Care Ctr to all animal lovers. Call after call-- rudeness from staff. Staff telling me "I haven't been here for 3 days I don't know". Charged me for a pill dispenser after prescribing medication for a second time. I gave them 2 stars because they took care of my cat (so far as I am still waiting on a response from the Vet) but left me BLIND. Didn't teach me how to give my cat the medicine. Was rude to me at the counter when paying. And just because I asked for my cats records it "came across as if I wouldn't be returning". They definitely helped my cat as far as aftercare but caused me a lot of grief and anxiety when it came to knowing his condition and where he stood. Mind you the prices aren't cheap ok. They tell you they will call you and DONT!! Then when you call to check up again you are told you will be called by the doctor. She is SUPER busy with "scheduled appointments" or whatever have you as she should be-- but another Vet or someone with credentials needs to make the call backs for her. Obviously she cannot handle callbacks and appointments or else I wouldn't be making this post.

I would not judge her on her staff. As for a rabies shot, it's a law regardless of indoor or outdoor in order to register your animal. I personally have 3 snowshoes and 1 Siamese, I trust this vet over every other in the area. She isn't about the money she is about what's best for the animal. I have also waited longer- why because she has to take the K9 cop first, they are on the job and need what they need immediately. I have no issue waiting when it's someone in service!

The guy who put her down made sure that I took enough time with her & was very comforting. The whole staff was extremely kind through the whole process & never made me feel guilty for making the decision. I then bought my new puppy Duke from them & they helped me with everything to ensure that I left with him. This was very unlike the other shelters I went to because they want more than anything for every pet to get adopted. They had all his paperwork, microchip data, instructional tips, and even clipped his nails for me before we took him. Even though Duke has a couple fixable behavioral problems, he has become apart of our family. You can also tell they care for every animal in there. They knew all of the pets by name, and each pet had a huge space to themselves with a cot & occasional walks. All of the pets looked super healthy & I was glad to find a dog as great as Duke. South Suburban Humane Society has been there for me through my saddest moment to one of my happiest! I can never thank them enough for all that they have done for me.

When we arrived for our scheduled visit, we were not allowed to see a number dogs because "they don't get along with other dogs" even though we asked if we could bring our dog with for a meet and greet. We were only shown one dog, unfortunately, it was a three legged dog and we have many stairs. We were told we could make an an appointment with a dog being fostered. But they didn't tell us pre appointment. This all could have been communicated through email. What a disappointment.

I do not write reviews lightly, but I feel obligated to share my experience so that other pet…read moreowners can make an informed decision. My experience with Dr. Marcus was extremely disappointing. My pet was being treated for dry eye and a corneal ulcer. We followed the treatment plan exactly as prescribed, including waiting for a medication that had to be specially shipped to us because it was not immediately available. Dr. Marcus knew we were waiting for that medication. Once the medication arrived, my pets eye seemed to worsen rather than improve. When we returned, instead of showing compassion or discussing all possible options, I felt the responsibility was shifted onto my family by suggesting we had not brought her back soon enough. That was difficult to hear, especially because we had been following the treatment plan and waiting on the medication that had been prescribed. During that visit, Dr. Marcus told us my pet's eye had perforated, that she was already blind in that eye, and that her other eye would likely begin having problems as well. No compassion, just blunt and he was very rough with her eye during the examination. We were given a list of veterinary ophthalmologists in Illinois and told to pursue surgery. There was no expression of empathy or reassurance during what an incredibly emotional moment. After researching the referral options, I was advised to take my pet to an emergency hospital where she could be evaluated by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist immediately. That decision changed everything. The ophthalmologist thoroughly examined my pet and developed a completely different treatment plan. He prescribed three ophthalmic medications along with antibiotics. He also explained that the previous treatment recommendations including relying on the shipped medication, lubricating drops, and contact lens saline alone were not appropriate for my pet's condition. Most importantly, he gave us hope instead of assuming the worst. His examination also differed significantly from what we had previously been told. He found that my pet's eye still responded to light, there was still healthy blood vessel growth supporting healing, and her other eye was healthy. After just one week on the new treatment plan, I could clearly see her full pupil again. At her follow-up appointment, the ophthalmologist confirmed that the corneal ulcer had healed. We are now beginning another medication to continue her recovery, and once her eye is fully stable, we will address her cherry eye to help reduce her risk of developing dry eye disease in the future. The difference between the two experiences was remarkable. The ophthalmologist was patient, compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about my pet. He took the time to explain every step of her condition and treatment, and he treated both my pet and our family with kindness and respect. Based on my personal experience, I would not go back to Glen Park When it comes to complex eye conditions or specialty care, or any care at all. I feel like he really didn't know what meds to give her and it was really beyond his scope of work and should have referred me out from the beginning. I would strongly encourage pet owners to seek evaluation from a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist as soon as possible. I do want to recognize the nursing staff at Glen Park. Every nurse we encountered was kind, professional, and caring, and I sincerely appreciate the compassion they showed us throughout our visits. This experience was heartbreaking and I am grateful we pursued a second opinion because it gave my pet another chance.
