Dolphin pool with 9 dolphins (?)
    Carrie C.

If I could give less than one star I would. Would not return or recommend going here. Dolphins kept in conditions like this is sad for me to see...less than 60' pools that are smaller than our hotel pool is really, really sad...the gal said it's 20' feet deep and was proud! I didn't ask where they obtained the beautiful creatures, I could only imagine. Of course we came to see the dolphins, and I didn't want anything to do with them once I entered. My husband took the kids, I watched in horror as the poor dolphins did tricks for HOURS (our appointment time was 3pm and we got here before noon) so we could see lines of folks before us...I felt absolutely mortified we paid for this, as it encourages the bad part of "swimming with dolphins" (if you know PETA or Humane Society thoughts behind this, you understand what I'm saying). Apparently hubby bought a 2-for-1 "deal" through our hotel and I couldn't tell you how much he paid as I'd be super mad, and I'm not a fan at all of this kind of business, but besides that, I was in shock of other aspects (see below). I absolutely love water parks, but I hated this one. The good part is the place was pretty empty so we could find a seat/lounge chair anywhere. You bring your own towel as they charge you to use one here. The restrooms were filthy, only 2 worked in the ladies room. The folks working here were anything but pleasant. I saw numerous guests in the water park who had obtained injuries (Ice packs held against their back) from slipping getting into the tube ride. They use tile flooring in the pools, which is super slippery! The wave pool goes up to 8' deep and has tile flooring! The lazy river was what I was looking forward to, and they didn't allow tubes on the lazy river (what?!), instead they encouraged us to "buy our own tubes" (but the water slides have tubes, can we take those to the river? Nope!) very odd indeed...the lazy river was filled with folks walking in it, an odd site to see! As I left the park I noticed a rack of tubes you could "rent" for the lazy river. Another charge, go figure. And the lazy river smelled, like urine! There's a neat climbing rope thing in the water with a Dome shape parachute-looking inflatable with a large rope for climbing(?), but the lifeguards said only smaller than 4' height could go in. (What?) bummer! We could've had fun on that! The large tube ride looked frightening! We climbed it, great views of the hotels from up there, but we were all too terrified to try (looked like you could slip off the sides, no railing) and we just couldn't stomach it. The food "buffet" only had hotdogs, hamburgers, and tortillas, among French fries, pork, and limited selection in comparison to our all-you-can-eat buffet at our hotel. (No chicken). The best was the refried beans and Mexican rice. There's a roller coaster and some theme park things, but we didn't pay extra for that (and my kids didn't think they looked safe)... There's a zip line that looks fun, it costs extra too. Everything seems extra: towels, lockers, food, stuff you can get used to at other themed areas in the Cancún area cost extra. We did one tube ride and they allowed us to go 2 seconds after the guests in front of us. We wouldn't see that in the states! My daughter and I rode together and feared we would fall off the sides. There wasn't a line at all. Normally we'd spend all day at a water park, especially on the tube-rides. Here we did not enjoy the fear-factor. Everything from the cement stairs you climb that jiggled felt rickety to us. When you get close to the dolphins, you have to get wrist bands and take off all sunscreen, jewelry, and it costs $15usd for lockers. The cocktails are free, but buffet, towels, and tubes is not free. Very unlike other parks in Cancun. Oh, they take photos of your dolphin experience and charge $100 to have as many as you like... This place was pretty empty and my kids said they wouldn't want to come back. Me neither. It was a no-bueno experience all around.

My kids and I decided to try swimming with the dolphins and bought the advanced package to get more time with them ... it was so fun and unlike any other activity we've done in Cancun ... the whole experience is about 45 minutes and you get to touch , kiss , and ride the on the belly of the dolphin ... would totally come back and do it again in the future ... at the end there's an option to purchase pictures taken by a professional photographer (prints and digital ) ... these pictures were taken by my husband from above the facility !

Our trip to Dolphinarius Cancun was definitely the most memorable part of our one week vacation! We booked the Trainer for a Day program which lasts for the entire day (9am to 5pm). If you book in advance you could get anywhere from 25% off promos (5 days or more in advance or sometimes applicable over certain seasons) to 50% off promos (several months in advance for certain tourist originations). Be sure to visit the promotions section of the website AND chat to the support agents online too see deals you can take advantage off! They offer several types of programs each day but for the price you pay and the time you spend with the dolphins (let alone all the amazing things you learn about them), we decided the Trainer for the day program was hands down the best value!! Here is what we did: TRAINER FOR A DAY (with Edgar): - Cost: 150 USD per person (after a 25% promo from their website) - Optional 8 Photo Package: $50 USD (note this is ONLY available at the time of making the online booking!) See the linked picture for the prices of photographs packages that sky rocket onsite at the end of your program)s - Printed 8x10 Photos: 2 FREE per person (note that THEY already pick the two photos you get! 1x group photo AND 1x photo of you standing with the dolphin touching your finger tips) - Towels and Lockers: FREE for this program but otherwise 14 USD just for the locker. - Schedule broken down into 4x 25 minute sessions (total of 100 minutes or more with the dolphins - part 1 involves interactions and part 2 involves a ride): A. Orientation (feeling them and learning commands and behaviours) B. Dolphin Shirt Painting & "Foot Push" (exhilarating ride where you are pushed by your feet by two Dolphins at high speed - feel the power!) C. Dolphin Hugging & "Pectoral Ride" (holding onto one dolphin as it swims upside down) D. Backstage Tour (learn about their habitat and the organization and how much works goes into taking care of these amazing mammals) E. Lunch Break (included for free at the adjacent Ventura Park - simple burgers, fries, hot dogs, etc. - I suggest you bring your own lunch). Note you can also go the bar upstairs for free beverages (alcohol included but strongly suggest against it as it's best to stay focused during this all day program) F. Dolphin Show (this is a free show for Ventura Park visitors (it's a nice little 15 minute freebie for those who can't afford one of these cool programs) - it's optional for you but you can join (I suggest you do) G. Dolphin Jumps (where they take the group pictures!) & Scuba Dive (really only 15ft/5m deep but they give you weights and the respirator for oxygen down there - note that the tanks are detached and left at the surface with a long tube to your respirator). IF your flight is the next day you WILL NOT be able to scuba dive for your own safety!! H. Dolphin Kisses & "Dorsal Ride" (holding onto two dolphins as they swim) PRO TIPS: - Take the FREE shuttle (it has certain stops in the morning along the hotel zone and arrives at the park around 9am) - Bring your own lunch and bottled drinks (water) - Bring your own towels (unless you have this program then it's included) - You can put on sunscreen, BUT only on your face and it has to be rubbed all the way in so you don't even see it at all! (the dolphins are super sensitive to this stuff so please be considerate) - Bring a rashgaurd - Leave your jewelry at home! (otherwise you will have to leave it in the locker) - If you think you'll want more pictures (than the 2 FREE ones for this program only), make sure to purchase the packages online! There are no discounts or price matching or haggling for better photo packages onsite (well unless it's the all inclusive package which is already over $300 USD haha) - Take the FREE shuttle back, but try to be in the line by like 5pm or the line WILL get too long and the bus will get full and you will find yourself taking a taxi home. I've got to add that ALL the trainers were amazing and really cared for the dolphins! Edgar (the main trainer, has been there for a long time and was our main host) was superb and made our day just that much more memorable!

Mayan ruins on the Cancun Hotel Strip! Muy authentico!…read more This place is pretty sweet. It's a cool building, with cool architecture, but not too terribly practical. You have to get all the way to the top floor to see the exhibits. At the ticket booth reads a sign, "The galleries are hot. We have no air condition. No refunds." They were right. The gallery is up on the third floor. No, the elevator didn't work. Instead they had a corkscrew ramp that sent me going round and round and round in circles to get to the hot gallery at the top. The gallery was pretty small, with some pretty cool artifacts, and a human skull, with some awesome carvings, and some jewelry. All Mayan. So cool. There's also a temporary exhibit that had portraits of working Mexicans posing in the photos with the tools of their trades. Outside, is a super fun nature walk along an improved trail that takes you past several small ruins (one with painting still in the interior). The path terminates at a half pyramid that you can walk around, but not up. There's a small bookstore that seems lacking at the exit. It's a fun, fairly inexpensive way to get some art and culture on your trip to Cancun, to get to see ruins without having to go way out into the jungle is pretty special.

This is in the hotel zone. Our 7 year old kid enjoyed walking through the outdoor part through the jungle (searching for iguanas). It was nice and shady and peaceful. The indoor part was fine. This is a great cheap and easy activity to do after lunch when it's super hot and bright, to stay out of the sun! We could have taken a bus for 12 pesos or $1 USD from our hotel, but we didn't realize.

You gotta dive thirty feet underwater to see any of it, and all the art is all wet! Wanna get a photo of the sculptures? There's a good chance there's a fish that's gonna photobomb your shot. This place is hilarious! The art is poignant, creative, and fun. It's all lifesized sculptures of things like cars, people, and a bar scene. There's coral growing on the stuff, and fish all around. The sand is a light white, and the water is so blue and warm, it's a great place to check out some art. It's such a cool perspective to be able to circle around and see the art from all angles, even above or below with your ability to swim all around it. It's really fun to see the art this way. You don't have to dive with the museum itself. You can choose any of the dive companies, since there's no private property out in the sea, and anyone who knows how to operate a boat can take you out here. Diving was great, and visibility was par enough to be able to clearly see all the stuff underwater. The waters were choppy, which made for some currents pushing and pulling underwater, but it's a shallow dive and if anything goes wrong you can always just ascend to the surface from such shallow depths with much worry about anything going wrong. In two dives, we were able to take in about a dozen different sculpture displays. They're all near each other.
