It made my evening to see this Dollar Variety location as I headed towards Broad Street to catch…read morethe SEPTA rail train. I stopped in not only to see what was offered but to also pick-up some well needed essentials like toothpaste, body wash, and fabric conditioner to get me through the weekend while in the city of Philadelphia. Inside, there were items stocked six shelves high that were very organized ranging from many useful items -- body support products, house fans, barbecue grills, air fresheners, cleaning, party, kitchen and school supplies, socks, colorful undergarments, etc. I must say that I did feel a tad overwhelmed while walking the aisles looking for needed essentials because there were so many items. There was a variation of body wash and soap bars shelved! When traveling, it has become my preference to purchase body soap or body wash because I do not know if the hotel I am staying at will have it. Hotels nowadays have the built-in body soap dispenser in their bathrooms along with conditioner, and lotion. In the past, I have stayed at some hotels that have been low on body soap in the dispenser, so because of that I make it a priority to purchase either body wash or soap in case. I was grateful to find an oral care travel kit, which came with a toothbrush and toothpaste inside of a resealable travel bag because we all know with travel, TSA does not allow full tubes of toothpaste through screening. With a travel tube, I not only can use it during my weekend stay but also take it back with me on flight and use it for future travels, which I will likely do. And along with my oral care travel kit, I found and purchased a small container of mouthwash which lasted during my short stay. Another item I found and purchased was Suavitel Complete Fabric Conditioner Hygiene Fresh laundry detergent which always comes in-hand when I am traveling because of its size. I am one that despises traveling with dirty t-shirts, socks, panties, and running shorts inside of my travel bag that also has clean garments inside. So, I try to hand wash those garments inside of the hotel rooms sink which works out well for me. As one who wears stocking wave caps to lay my hair flat, I feel that I can never fail with having more than one, especially being physically active as I am. When out whether it be out-and-about or working out, if I am wearing a baseball cap best believe that I am wearing a stocking wave cap underneath. I found and ended up purchasing a pack which has two stocking wave caps inside. And Dollar Variety had several stocking wave cap styles and colors available, even du-rags! I was pleasantly shocked at the number of hair oils that were shelved near the register. When traveling, keeping my hair oiled is a must! And while waiting to be rung up at the register, I found and purchased a tube of Biotin premium hair oil which due to its size is also on the safe side of not being flagged while going through TSA. Being that my needs were met, I would indeed return to Dollar Variety if visiting downtown Philadelphia and in need of essentials as I mentioned. It's important to understand that Bulk Vintage and Briar Vintage are in the same building. Bulk…read moreVintage is on the 2nd floor, Briar is on the 3rd. Are they the same? They are not. Bulk Vintage is exactly what they say they are - they buy and sell bundles of used clothing primarily wholesale. Once a month they open up their floor to the public, typically this is a Saturday. Sometimes they have a Friday night limited admission shopping time too, for $10. If you don't/can't shop at their 'open' time, you can reserve 2 hours of floor time with a $100 non refundable deposit that is credited towards your total purchase. The building is an old factory structure tucked in a quiet industrial area. The street out front is where I parked. It was well lit, no problems getting a spot up front. Inside, they are on the 2nd floor, there are rows and rows of large cardboard boxes with their tops cut off. Each has markings on it of generally what is in there and either a set price or a range. So you'll see "vests - men" or "boho skirts". There are also items hanging up on racks in the back. If you're interested in one of those you ask for a price. When you come in they're very pleasant and efficient. They show you where baskets are for carrying items (NO outside bags or boxes allowed). They also show you where bedsheets are at the end of each isle. This is kind of clever. When you want to dig into one of the bins, they tell you to put the sheet down on the ground in front of the bin and put items you're pulling out on it to keep it cleaner and keep from pushing items to boxes on either side. I paid the $10 to shop in more quiet at night, there were maybe 10 people. This is most definitely a DIG, so if you're not into sorting a bunch of stuff in an industrial warehouse setting, this is not the place for you. I had a blast and picked up some amazing finds, including a fabulous wool cloak from the 1960s that is so warm. Oh and one of the other shoppers bought a coat very similar to my ski jacket in high school - back in the 1980s. Dang, I'm getting old. Would I go again? Yes, I would. Maybe on a Saturday rather than paying for Friday access.

People were describing it as a hidden gem-- well hidden no more! I dibble and dabble in thrifting and I particularly love a quality vintage piece (you can check some of my other reviews on some of the other vintage spots in town as well), so imagine my pleasure when I saw they were having a fill-a-bag sale. The bags started at $20 I believe, but by the last day of the sale, they were $5. I decided to go (on a whim) that day to the $5 bag sale. Overall, it's definitely not something I would do again without a snack and heaps of energy. I came within an hour of the sale ending on a hot day and I was basically about to keel over. Rummaging through piles of vintage items is certainly not recommended on an empty stomach. Heck, on a full stomach even. It is not for the faint of heart. The piles were pretty big! I did like that they had mail buckets to put your clothing items in as you searched. I strategically meandered around the outskirts of the piles, but some people went to further lengths. I imagine there was even more to dig through earlier in the sale, so in some ways by the last day it was manageable for me. I also was happy that the crowd at least seemed to die down by the final hour. No complaints, really, about the staff there. The woman who greeted me referred to their bag policy when I accidentally left my purse on, which isn't a huge bag. I get it. She didn't reprimand me and didn't make me take it off, which I offered to do since I was parked such a short ways, so that was nice of her. Her and 2 other people working there watched as people shopped, which I wasn't really sure what to make of, but they weren't following people. I will just assume they were hanging out. Workers helped keep the piles tidy and they moved their other inventory aside. It was pretty organized. I paid by Venmo and there was a slight surcharge on the bag of 15 cents. I would like to return on an Open House day to see some of their typical offerings. I mean the finds I did leave with were pretty sweet. I would rate it above any thrifting for the impressive vintage finds. Everything I bought was definitely vintage in a range of eras and I only spent $5. Where else are you getting that?

We were unexpectedly made executors of a friend's estate, and we didn't know where to turn. Harry came to our house, where we had assembled items that we thought would have some value. He carefully went through everything, gave us a fair price, and carted it all away. We are also happy to know that what our friend left behind will now have a chance to be treasured by others.

You can't miss the HUGE colorful mural on the outside in the parking lot, but the RE itself is on the right side. Conveniently located by a 3 bus stop as well. I was in the market for some postcards and other papercraft supplies and brought some scrapbook paper I knew I wouldn't use with me to donate as well. The staff was very nice and organized. After seeing the true breadth of all of the various materials sold at the RE, I will definitely bring more miscellaneous craft stuff with me to donate next time. Have to make room for new stuff! I was able to purchase some postcards (they were 50 cents each or 3 for $1), a container to hold some of my other materials, and a set of Dublin stickers, all for $15 flat. Cannot stress enough how AFFORDABLE stuff is. In general I would say go in to look around and not want anything too specific, especially on a busy day like a Saturday, because it was a bit crowded. But they had materials truly for all typees of crafts: fabric, knitting, sewing, painting, papercrafts, jewelry, woodworking... as well as larger materials. I have walked by this shop almost daily on my way to work, but never had occasion to pop in until…read morerecently. I was greeted nicely enough by a gentleman who sat slightly obscured behind a stack of... things. The whole store was full of ..... things. The store had everything from "vintage" stuff to random junky stuff that just looked... used. The displays made it really difficult to walk around. All in all, interesting, but nothing really caught my eye and I left empty-handed.
