Though, our waitress was 10/10 top notch. We visited antiques and comics store because it was the closest comic store we could find to East Tawas. Their stock did not disappoint! It's all used and second-hand, but I had a great time thumbing through the boxes and checking out the action figures. The issues went as far back at the 1970s that I could see, and went as recent as this year. The part I was most impressed with was their "whole run" section. Theyre they had collected all of the issues of a bunch of short runs, packaged them together, and gave a discount. That way, you got the entire story, like you would if you were getting a graphic novel. I bought two runs! If you're looking for antique knick-knacks or a good deal on comics missing from your collection, this is a good place to stop!

The stores up north however are hard to come by... There are not as many and their inventory is lacking due to being in a less populated area... It is funny to see how the stock and type of stuff varies so much in different parts of the state. This thrift store is the best one that I have found in Northern Michigan not only is it extremely spacious... The store itself is extremely organized, and you can tell that the owners and staff take great pride in merchandising their product in a way that is easy to shop and thoughtfully placed. I found it incredible how this business is operating I went today for the first time and it is senior day so the deals are very deep and the line is wrapped around the building! It seems like this building was once a mom and pop shop style department store because there are various rooms that organize each department even still with it being a thrift store this location have less furniture and clothing but all the other items are in great supply. Ifound a few great deals and left knowing that I will be back I highly recommend this store if you are into Thrifting and looking for a gift or even a vintage find.

We stopped in while traveling up north and were pleasantly surprised to find a cute little wine tasting room in the small town of West Branch, of all places. I've been to West Branch several times before (we usually stay at a cabin on the water with our friends), but I've never seen anything associated with a winery here before, so I had absolutely no idea what I was missing! They had quite an array of reasonably-priced wines, starting around $11 and going up from there to around $22 per bottle. We were offered a free wine sampling of a couple of different varieties, including a semi-dry, but buttery chardonnay ($11), which had a nice, rich flavor for a lower-priced bottle of wine. I would recommend that anyone who likes white wines. It was a hit with me after just one sip. It wasn't too dry or too sweet. It had some nice, subtle notes that I could detect afterward. Next, we tried a chocolate wine. My husband was very hesitant at first, but came around on it after giving it a chance. I liked it, myself, too. It was a richer wine, probably not for everybody's taste, but I found it quite suitable. We were told it was infused with Mackinac Island Fudge, so that must be what gave it its incredibly distinct chocolate taste. If you like chocolate or fudge, this one is a winner. The manager/owner suggested mixing it with Modern Craft's cherry wine for optimal effect. He said the two bring out the best notes in each other. He then paired them together for me and you know what? He was right. Count me in! Another winner. He was both engaging and quite knowledgeable about the wines they had in stock. He definitely knew his stuff. Beyond that, there were several other interesting wines at a mid-range price point that looked worth trying, including a blackberry wine and a variety of lighter, fruity wines, suitable for a summer evening. They had a special on some discontinued seasonal wine, running about 50% off, which was a bargain. Aside from the tasting room, the space is home to a small gift shop featuring home decor and accessories. I didn't bother to check it out too well, but looking around I saw some cute things that I would like. I wish I had taken a little more time to check out the gift shop as well, but I focused my visit solely on the wine tasting. I'm really glad we stopped in. It made for most pleasant side trip foray. I would never have known this place was here if I hadn't decided to stop into town just to look around for an hour or two.

If there's one thing I can't stand it is the use of terms like dear. sweetie, honey... it is rude, condescending, and very unprofessional! I responded with "DEAR, I am just looking". This women continued using way too familiar, condescending names. Why can't stores tell their employees to stop this rude behavior? Needless to say, I left without purchasing anything. Entering the store, I noticed they were undertaking a remodel so the bottle return had been relocated. I'm not sure what the situation normally is at this store, but when I found the new, temporary location, there were 3 machines - 1 each for plastic, cans & glass, as well as two people with carts full, loading the machines. And the machines were slow. At any rate, I finished & took the slips to customer service. I casually mentioned my frustration with the setup & before I could even suggest adding one or two machines the employee brusquely told me "lots of people feel (that) way but it's how it is & how it's going to be a while." So, taking my $$, I asked her to let the manager know that I was intending to buy two cases of Pepsi, but I wouldn't be buying them in this store if I was going to have to go through this again to return the cans. She said she would; I know she didn't. But it doesn't end there. The layout of the store is very different than most Walmart's and nothing makes sense. Not in & of itself a problem, just a frustration, but again, the layout is illogical. The store's also very dirty, & I could tell in a couple of sections that nobody had taken responsibility for organizing for some time. Also poorly stocked. And I never even made it to the grocery side of the store. The only bright spot was the young lady stocking in toys who helpfully directed me to the pet section. Even if I lived in West Branch I wouldn't shop here with any regularity. First impressions matter, folks.
