As far as I'm concerned, having shopped at many Publix supermarkets all over Southern Florida,…read morethere's only one reason to shop at Publix, and that's their Subs, known locally as the "Pub Sub".
Publix Sub Sandwiches are hands down the best sub sandwiches to be found anywhere there's a Publix, and that includes you, Jersey Mike's.
For taste, quality, and value, the Pub Sub is hands down the best in their class. Don't just take my word for it. It's pretty well known among all Floridian sub aficionados.
Unfortunately, their subs are the only thing worth going to Publix for. Here's why:
1. Their prices. Just about everything on their shelves is priced higher than the same item at Aldi's, Walmart, Key Foods, or Winn-Dixie, just to name a few.
2. Their produce. I passed on a sad looking wilted, bunch of celery at Publix for$2.75, and went to Aldi's and bought a larger, fresh, bright green bunch for 0.95.
3. Their rain check policy. They advertised a BOGO for roasted red peppers but they were not in stock. So I got a rain check. I kept returning, week after week for those peppers, but they never were in stock. When they finally appeared on the shelf, I went with them to the cashier and was told "Sorry. Your rain check has expired."
I said "What? They've been out of stock for weeks. They finally just got back on the shelf."
I spoke to the manager, explained the situation, and he still refused to honor the rain check, saying only "Rain Checks have an expiration date."
4. Disappointing BOGOs. Their weekly ad advertised "Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce Buy One Get One." I got to the cashier with two Sweet Baby Ray's No Sugar Added Original and she said "No. That one is not a BOGO". When I pointed out that the ad didn't mention any exceptions, I was still refused a BOGO.
That pretty much ended any reason for me to pay a visit to Publix, for all the reasons mentioned above.
For anything, that is, except their Subs.
