Why has nobody posted a review of this place before??? Five Below as a store is too good to leave…read moreno review, so here are some thoughts I've shared on other locations. As a chain, it's a neat concept. This isn't a dollar store that has things way over a dollar, everything here truly is $5 or less. I really like that this is the only discount chain, that I am aware of, that has fitness items. Yoga mats, balance boards, hand weights and many of the apparel and accessories that go with it. That's neat and it's a cheap way to try out a new activity without dropping a lot of cash in case you hate it. They even have skateboards there! Every time I've gone into a location, I've badly wanted to buy the squares to build your own fitness floor. I have no idea why, I wouldn't use it, but I want it, lol. I see this chain as a healthy mix of a place to get last minute items you forgot about (phone chargers, birthday cards, Tupperware, games to keep the kids busy) and a place that gives you ideas on things you didn't realize you needed (lots of storage options, home décor, nifty gadgets like lights for dark corners, a variety of travel accessories). Now, how does this location stack up? Well, less shelves are full of merchandise here. Our visit was on a weekday morning, so that might have been a one off, but as I was looking for something I had previously purchased at another location, it really caught my attention. However, the staff here was really friendly and funny at the register, which is more engagement than I encounter at other locations, so they balance out for my overall Five Below expected experience. It's a cool place to check out, especially if you are visiting Sarasota and realized you forgot small items back home. This way you can get the items you need and have plenty left to act like a tourist (for me that means: try more food)!

You really have to pay attention to what you're doing and going through, and potentially going to buy. For example, Taped up boxes may not be what they seem, so you have to ask to open them (you can't open them yourself. There's a station you take it to and an employee inboxes it). Hotbins has specific dollar days where on Saturday "everything you buy is ten dollars an item" and Wednesday is "everything you buy is two dollars an item". Put 10 items in your cart (they have shopping carts and the Ikea big blue bag for your stuff) on a Friday, you're walking out the door paying $120 plus tax. There are items "priced as marked" and it can range in product. For instance, smart device charging cables were marked as $6 a cable (USB-C to Lightning, USB to Lightning, USB-C to USB, old style USB to whatever. Charging bricks I think were $6 too). There are bigger items marked as more or less than that days' discount (clothes, fragrances). I didn't catch the pricing on those, as it wasn't something I went over to look at. One challenge is, this store has stuff that is readily available at the dollar store (for example, I saw a twelve pack of Elmers Glue Sticks unopened. Going in on Saturday, I wasn't about to buy that for $10 when the Dollar Tree has the same package for 1.25 plus tax). Why spend over five dollars on a single item that you know you can get for a lower cost at another store and not on a discount? Yes, HotBins is a store of returns: Amazon, Target, Costco, etc. So it's possible twelve or ten dollars is well worth the expenditure if it's a big ticket item (an Amazon Echo Show holder for less than retail price? Sure, if you already have the Echo Show and want the holder), but even at the two dollar mark on Wednesday, there is still a possibility of paying more for the item than necessary. Again, you might be able to get a single $100 retail item for at least 75% off or more. So if it's something huge, you're getting a deal. BUT.. by mid week, it's slim pickings - store is closed on Thursday to restock the bins as they're open Friday to Wednesday. To reiterate the taping of the bosses: majority of the items are sealed and resealed. You must go to customer service to ask to see what it is, as the box description may not always match the item. The workers are more than happy to assist, and ask you don't open the boxes yourselves. If it's not something you want, they will repackage the item and put it back in a bin for someone else to pick up and ask. Overall, the store was clean and well lit. Music was on and not completely loud or in your face. Unfortunately I don't think I'd be back as I found it to be not a really great deal on the day I went.
