As a touch of comfort, I wanted to get him something that felt like "home," and I called Dolly's Gift Shop for help. Jamie had just opened the store that morning, and she wove in time to send me many photos of things she thought might be a nice token. She was so wonderful with her time, her ideas, and she even wrapped it up and coordinated with my local family member who came by to get the gift. Above and beyond. Chad the owner gladly accepted $80 from us for a variety of items, and when a boogy board broke during the first use, refused to replace it. Chad offered us a "discount" on a new one. Why on earth would we spend money to purchase another substandard piece of crap? It literally didn't last 5 minutes in the water. And when I questioned his policy he admitted it was meant to be disposable. Buyer definitely beware. Go to Publix and buy from them. They will gladly replace anything that doesn't work. There seems to be a little bit of everything here somethings very old that triggers your childhood memories, somethings that you may have long forgotten even though they were treasures that your parents or grandparents may have owned and proudly displayed. There's so much amazing inventory inside but the outside is just as impressive the courtyard is filled with yard art and signs, it may be worth making several passes through here there's so much to see and enjoy. One of the things I thought was incredibly creative is the use of sea-can storage trailers to display more items, it's like individual shops, some are themed displaying like items. In my experience, this market is unwelcoming to minorities and operates with a level of hostility and unprofessionalism that has no place in a community space. The attitude I encountered was rude, dismissive, and openly disrespectful. Instead of the warm, inclusive environment you'd expect from a farmers' market, I was met with behavior that felt biased and exclusionary. It was clear that respect was not extended equally, and that alone is enough to ensure I will never return. A farmers' market should represent community, diversity, and mutual respect. This one failed on all fronts. Until the organizers address how minorities are treated and hold vendors and staff to basic standards of professionalism and decency, I strongly advise others to spend their money elsewhere. Florida has plenty of markets that actually value all people--this is not one of them.
