It was $2.65 per at the time of pumpage which is comparable to what I'm paying in PA currently but...it sucks overall since the price in Windsor right now is $2.49. (Whomp, Whomp) Did I trip over any random tire shards, radiator parts or left behind wing nuts? No runs, no hits and no errors. We removed our rubbish from the vehicle and got beverages for the remainder of the trip to Atlantic Beach without issue. Easy on/off to the highway/road of my choosing? The immediate area doesn't exactly strike me as a metropolis of activity but it was beyond easy to get back on to 17. Also, if you need a solid greasing there are several excellent options nearby with a Subway, BK and Bojangles'. Human intervention needed? Thankfully, no. Three star gas station bliss achieved!!!

The interior was clean, and items for purchase were well displayed with well stocked shelves. Belk (maybe the whole department store concept) has changed from being a place with great personal service to a store with close to no assistance and only a couple of counters to pay for your purchase. I did find what I was looking to purchase, and they were at a 50% discount. The checkout person was nice and helpful.

This is no way to treat the customers. Also, on 3/30/24 I called a local florist in the town of Hertford, NC. The name of the florist is Planters Ridge & the owner Natalie Brown helped me. I did not know it was the owner till later on after I called back to talk to the owner about the amazing customer service that one of the employees gave me. This florist did amazing work and got it to my mother on Easter Eve. What customer service and value. I did not pay any extra for the short notice/turn around. Hertford, NC. The staff was friendly and informative. I learned that Mackeys Ferry Peanuts has been open since the 80's. Reading from their website I found that the name "Mackeys Ferry" was taken from a bit of local history. The Ferry was used by the Norfolk Railroad to carry train cars across the Albemarle Sound, specifically to and from Edenton, NC and Mackeys Landing. You will find these stores all over the place from Florida to Maine, in cities and out in the boonies. The stores have a simple premise, lots of cheap stuff. Certainly not everything is a dollar but most stuff is quite cheap and you don't go into one of these stores and expect to find gourmet food or fine gifts. There are a lot of similar stores with similar names and goals but Family Dollar remains popular because it never deviates from it's goal of offering lots of stuff at very cheap prices. This particular store is tucked away in a quiet area and is cleaner and more pleasant than some of the others. Sure the stores are messy and it can be difficult to find certain items, the lines can be long and they don't don't always have what you want but the you find lots of stuff. And all of the stuff will indeed be inexpensive..

That's what it feels like to go to downtown Edenton. It's like going back in time and Byrum Hardware is a flashback of the old hardware stores of years ago before all the big box stores. And yet they have everything you can imagine and then some. I enjoyed my trip here so much. Tucked away in a side room is also crafts and art supplies. If you can't find it, just ask, they probably have it. A great local establishment.
