I saw several people, all burly looking unkempt men strutting around not wearing masks. I saw some pass employees & no one said anything. This Bi-mart is right next to an assisted living retirement home & a lot of elderly folks come in here. There weren't many there when I was there so either they're not shopping, are having relatives shop for them, or go there right when the store opens, when the burly men are still asleep. I feel bad for the elderly & sick.

They have really cool stuff you won't find elsewhere and most of the time their prices are less than your standard grocery chain. I think the layout and design is a lot more "outlet" than the ones I usually frequent and I just didn't like the feel. I'm sure they had all the same great products, but I honestly didn't enjoy shopping and didn't wander like I usually would. It's not really their fault and I don't know how else to say I didn't like the vibes but....well I didn't. Once thing I'll give them is that they had some seriously gorgeous and fairly rare philodendrons in their plant section. I didn't see them until after I'd checked out, but they did tempt me to get back in line. So while I won't actively avoid this store, you are more likely to find me at Lancaster Drive when in Salem.

They usually run a deal on turkeys for the holidays, but I'd suggest to throughly check any perishables, as deals here come with a risk of going bad quickly, I'm not sure if the increased prices are due to the move or what our government is doing to the economy, but my favorite sea salt sunflower seeds went up from $2.99 to $5.99 in the past several months. Bulk oatmeal had so much "fines" in it that after sifting with a colander there was about 3 cups of instant oatmeal rather than whole oats. Then looking for 36 oz of Adams peanut butter..no more only Winco brand which is made of hydrogenated oil!! Holy crap that stuff is awful for you!! One tiny jar only all the rest was hydrogenated junk! I prefer name brands as company brands are often inferior of quality and and sure is with Winco products. They do have a good deli and their meat quality is good, especially prices! I will still probably shop here but be looking for better prices on certain items else where! I expect long lines and crowds and try to shop when the crowds are less.

When Steve and I were in Salem recently we had the primary purpose of going to a museum but it…read moredidn't open too early in the day so we had plenty of time to kill by seeing some of the other things that the town had to offer. We noticed that Salem had a public market and thought that would be a good way to get some local flavor and a good way to let the time pass up until the museum opened. This public market is not outside but instead inside a small building. Despite the size of the building there are a fair amount of local vendors that are in here. Some I really was impressed with. There was a guy that had us sample some of his homemade beef jerky that was very good, a plant vendor that sculpted air type plants into things making very cute dioramas with them. My favorite was a hand crafted soap vendor and I wound up buying several bars of soap from her. The fragrances were great and she made them very pleasing to the eye as well with fancy waves at one end on a bar of soap with hints of what looked like glitter. Very nice. This public market was unexpectedly fun and was a perfect morning stop to make!
