This is a horrid store. It gives a bad name to a really great company. We went here today,…read more12/7/2013. Not only is this store small, it's a miserable experience with poor management. The store was packed for no real reason, but that's of course not their fault. What was their fault was the filthy floors and baseball and other cards and boxes all over the ground at checkout, and the 20 minutes+ it took to checkout! I counted at least SEVEN people who worked here yet nothing was getting done in a prompt manner! There were four checkout lanes open and being used, and the dozens of people in line waited forever for a store WITH EVERYTHING PRICED AS A DOLLAR to checkout! The credit card machine took about 2 minutes to take my payment that usually takes seconds. To top it off, the parking is packed and sucks as well. If this store was any slower, it'd automatically turn into a molasses factory! Never again. Please go to the Merrionette Dollar Tree instead, it's fast, neater, and much, much larger!!

The employees are rude too. I used a basket once when I was in there and after I was done putting my items on the counter I put my basket on top of the other baskets that were next to the counter. The cashier was like that's not where they go, huffed at me, and moved the whole stack of baskets by the front door. Sorry lady, the other five baskets must of thrown me off.

I have frequented this place numerous times and have had the blessing of seeing it grow, rearrange and expand. Once I was in there and a worker there was so kind and helpful and even gave me a deal on the two chairs that I purchased. The most recent visit was just the opposite. No one to help or greet. I asked a question and was treated not only like I was stupid but said, "Here's the stairs right here", like I'm some sort of imbecile. I proceeded to want to check out and two workers were too busy complaining and I stood there and waited until they were done. Then when I gave my card she starts to tell me that my card wasn't accepted but then realized she put it in upside down. No apology just again an attitude. I spent over $50 and I didn't know that as a customer I'm such a burden. Take my advice hire friendly people who work only the floor to help customers if you're too busy to help and answer questions. I will still go but there are other shops in the area that I may consider visiting before I'll go back again.

I can look for these things at other places. I am not a fan of giving my money to people that don't want it. So try marketplace or eBay.

I've visited many Salvation Army stores throughout Chicagoland, but this location has been by far…read morethe most unwelcoming and problematic. Beyond the disorganization and extremely high prices, the most troubling issue is how customers are treated, especially those who are African American, Hispanic, or simply appear as if they don't belong in the eyes of the staff. There is a repeated pattern of racial profiling and false accusations. I've personally witnessed several incidents where African American customers were followed around the store, accused of switching price tags without cause, and treated with clear suspicion. In one incident, a young woman held clothes up to herself over her outfit to see if they would fit, since there is no dressing room. A staff member immediately accused her of trying to steal. That level of hostility is completely inappropriate. This is a thrift store, not a high-security facility. Ironically, most of the staff are minorities themselves, primarily Hispanic women who have worked there for many years. Yet they continue to target their own community, along with African American customers, creating an environment of constant judgment and control. One particular woman, who has been there the longest, insists on always being at the register and refuses to let anyone else take that position. That kind of control is concerning, especially when it seems to be tied to who gets followed, accused, or mistreated. On a personal note, I experienced this behavior when visiting with my boyfriend, who is African American and a practicing attorney. He was followed through the store and accused of altering a price tag, with absolutely no evidence. When we raised our concerns to staff, we were completely brushed off. In addition to the unacceptable treatment of customers, I believe the Salvation Army should conduct a full audit of this location. The prices are far beyond what is reasonable for a secondhand store, and there are real concerns about whether items are being priced and tracked appropriately. The way some employees behave, it is as if they are personally losing money. There is no other explanation for the level of aggression and defensiveness we have seen from them. This store does not reflect the values the Salvation Army promotes. The staff operate in a culture of suspicion and blame, treating people especially minority shoppers as if they are criminals rather than individuals simply looking for affordable clothing and household items. I sincerely urge Salvation Army leadership to investigate this location thoroughly. What is happening here is not only unacceptable, it is harmful to the very communities the organization is meant to serve.

There was an abundance of shoes, clothing, appliances, housewares, electronics and toys. I spotted a large vintage mid century ashtray and a couple of vintage planters that I scooped up, but didn't have time to dig further. Note - all items are sold 'as is', so make sure you test and inspect them thoroughly.
