Pro tip: The 1st Wednesday…read morein November is National Advent Calendar Day and make sure to go to Aldi early to get your Aldi Advent calendars! I could have sworn my husband picked these up on November 1st this year. And, I'm right because in 2023, the 1st Wednesday in November was November 1! At any rate mark your calendars to get to Aldi for their Advent calendars in early November. The cheese Advent calendar is delicious! They are a great value at around $25.00 each! Each cheese is individually shrink wrapped and labelled, and their goat cheese, and gouda cheese as well as their flavored cheeses are delicious! They make great gifts too! Other Aldi advent calendar options include their wine Advent calendar, Beer Advent calendar, Lego Advent calendar, sparkling wine Advent calendar, and others including 12 days of Irish Cream, luxury chocolates, hot sauces and your choice of 5 days of sweet red wine or 5 days of dry red wine. They even offer a 12 days of cat treats Advent calendar. Truly ad Advent calendar for everyone. Thanks, Aldi, for the high-quality delicious Advent calendars!

Aldi is a place that I have something of a love/hate relationship with. On one hand, they have some…read moregood prices, but they do not feel the importance of having enough staff and another maddening fact is that Aldi locations do not have a land line so you cannot call to see if they have a particular item or for any other purpose. I discovered this fact out during the pandemic and all stores were adjusting their hours. I also think of Aldi as kind of an Odd Lots of supermarkets. They bring in product that they buy from sources to sell to their customer base. Not a bad thing, but I have had some winners and some lovers. Aldi does have some things going for them. Their bread is good and has a good price point. The same can be said of their cheese and vegetables. All in all, I think the positive aspects outweigh the negative aspects. I will give it four stars overall.

Although this Wal Mart is pretty sketchy, since at least one person (maybe two) were shot in the parking lot, I boldly went to this Wal Mart for the first time since living maybe 6 miles away from it for over 15 years. The order was scheduled for pickup today after 11 AM but was actually ready around 4:45 yesterday. I arrived around 5, found my way to the designated pickup parking spaces (they have 16) and I chose 16 because it's my favorite number. Checked in via text and received a text that someone would deliver my item shortly. I set a timer on my phone and "shortly" was actually 15 minutes. The young lady who brought my items to my car was so sweet and apologetic, and seriously all 16 pick up parking spaces were full, so how can you be mad about a brief wait. This Wal Mart's pickup is vastly inferior to the Wal Mart on 72 west which is about the same distance away and I'll likely use it in the future since I have had exceptional experiences there. The Athens WM could benefit from the pickup set up at the Madison WM which includes a kiosk to check in and a covered area under which you park, I think 3 cars can fit under the covering at one time meaning you are comfy in the hottest sunshine, the most torrential rain, and even sleet and snow. Plus, the employees are protected from the elements too! Thanks Athens WM for providing the inexpensive Christmas cookie cutters and Merry Christmas to you!

The Pharmacist Trevor was equally as professional, informed and personal. The entire process took less than 20 minutes. La Estrella Food and Fish Market - Very, very nice produce area. One of the top two in Decatur, if not THE top.

Our eyes popped, mouths fell agape, and rumors of fainting abounded. The overall shopper's experience here is the best in Decatur. Among the Pan Dulces (Conchas, Ojo de Buyes, and such), we espied something similar enough to Chocolate-covered Doughnuts to make us kill for it. But we had a bag of goodies we'd already purchased and somehow staved ourselves off. Formerly at 6th Avenue, LEF&FM is a must visit. Oddly, four of the other Supermercados are within walking distance and thus in direct competition, a move seemingly both unwarranted and unwise, unless a concentrated Hispanic population in the immediate area ensures their collective viability. I can't say. The first items you'll notice as you walk in are the greens and such in the well-stocked and eye-catching produce area, and the atmosphere was well ratcheted up in our estimation due to the fact that the employees were all friendly. LEF&FM had a wonderful dairy department, stocked with Queso this, Quesillo that, Quesadillo these, and Crema those. Some cheeses had Jalapeno, others, Loroco, which is evidently a flower bud of Central American origin. The popular Cotija Molido, which is merely grated Cotija, was also evident. It's one of the crumbly cheese you'll see in Mexican food...in fact, I believe it's one of the ones of which you might say, "Why doesn't it melt?" In addition to the bakery and dairy areas, the display of "soda pops" (to import a term) and such was better than average. Yes, they have Jarritos, but also have Foco, Boing!, Tiky, and several others, some of which are actually Asian in origin, rather than Mexican or South American. We are already talking about returning here...and that's a thirty-plus-minute trip. And we won't come back empty handed. Possibly in a sugary haze, but not empty handed.
