Second time in a row without having a car ready and having to double back to the terminal counter because they screwed up the Dollar Express; they didn't even have it identified. Mine is arranged through a booking agency and the insurance was almost billed despite all these agencies knowing our cards cover the liabilities. The car reserved was a mid size. What I got was a little POS sub compact that felt like it was powered by two hamsters. There was no cruise control and advertized in my booking. Other features were not obvious. ANd, the car was filthy with what looked like spills of soda or coffee on the door panels and console. Bad times twice now with Dollar. I wish the company would QA the lowest bidders because it seems they give the worst service. read more

Rented with Dollar and made the trek via Skybridge from PVD terminal. Only one employee working the counter at check-in but reservation was found, honored and I was on my way in about 25 minutes. Victoria, at the Dollar booth just before departing the airport garage, was very pleasant and conducted a final walk around of the vehicle to ensure I didn't miss any pre-existing damage. An average experience with room for improvement, but will continue to consider them for future rentals. read more

I honestly believe my experience with Dollar rental was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. After having "paid in full" for a car of Mazda 3 class or similar, I arrived at the pick up counter to learn I owed an additional $107 in fees - over 30% more than my paid in full price, AND the car options I had were nowhere near that of a Mazda 3. I was surprised to learn both of those things - the woman at the counter did a terrible job of explaining what those fees were for and couldn't seem to justify them as I was asking her to. She kept pointing to the computer screen saying "it's this". Showing me a fee and justifying the fee are two very different things. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak to a manager, I was put on the phone with a man named Don, who was apparently too busy (on a very dead day) to come out and speak to me in person. When I explained my frustrations, I was told by him, and I quote, to "try somewhere else next time". Hearing that, I quickly learned that Dollar rental couldn't have cared less about my satisfaction. The very least they could have done is let me out with a Camry, or something just a little more similar to the Mazda 3, but instead I paid 30% more at the counter for a dinky little Nissan Sentra. It is safe to say that I will never use Dollar rental again and will be sharing this story as often as possible to prevent others from being scammed in a similar way. read more

I have been using Dollar for my rental car needs for years because they tend to have the lower prices. However, it comes with a cost. Their service is subpar and inconsistent depending on who you get. On this particular trip, I received awful customer service from Brittany on my return. Luckily, Natasha provided excellent customer service and tried to rectify Brittany's damage. I went to the counter to see about extending my rental for 5 hours due to a change in flight. I asked Brittany what the additional cost would be and she informed me that it would be an additional $200. I indicated to her I saw that a new reservation would only cost me $50 and asked if there was anyway to just add that rate on to my existing reservation. She quickly told me no and to go back and close out the car which I did. When I returned I was assisted by Natasha who asked Brittany why she didn't just take me as a walk up. Brittany didn't respond. I also noticed a difference in the way Brittany interacted with me versus other customers. Brittany's customer service skills leave a lot to be desired to beware the next time you use ths rental facility. read more

Stuck in the airport overnight because the employees took off early. Then Don, the manager, was rude. Here are the details: I contracted through Orbitz with Dollar Car Rental to have a "Jeep Compass or similar SUV" from 10:45 pm on June 27 until 10:45 am on July 4. When I learned that my flight was to be delayed by several hours (I was to arrive at 12:30am), I phoned Customer Assistance and spoke with Anna who assured me that my "reservation would be honored" and that "my car would be available" when I arrived. However, when I did arrive at the airport car lot in Warwick, Rhode Island[1] the office was closed. Another customer was there, and although we could locate the cars we had rented, there was no way to leave the lot. After two hours, security guards informed us that this had happened before to other customers, and that the only option was either to find another way home or wait until Dollar Car Rental employees showed up at 5:30am. By then, it was 3:30 am, so we figured we had only two hours to wait. At 6am, when Don showed up, he informed us that 1) no one named Anna worked for Dollar Car Rental and 2) we would have to wait to leave until he was ready. A half hour later, he explained that my delayed flight had been noted in the account ("They should have called us. How do we know? Your flight number is in there, so I'll have to find out...I'm sorry, man. You did everything you were supposed to do.") So the employees at Dollar Car Rental knew that I would be arriving late on , but left the office, locked up the parking lot, and went home--and didn't even bother to tell me to find an alternative! Don agreed that this was unacceptable, took down my cell phone number, and assured me that 1) I would receive a "free rental" and 2) he would "follow up" for me. To my knowledge, neither has happened. Not only did I have to spend the night in the parking lot, I lost a day and a half of work, and was treated poorly. My experience was fantastic! Will was wonderful, friendly, courteous, and helpful. The young lady in the garage when picking out the car was equally helpful, and the gentlemen in the garage when I returned the car was also excellent! They gave me a complimentary upgrade, and let me pick out which vehicle in that class that I wanted. They had a Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Jetta, and a Mazda 3 and I chose the Mazda 3 and was glad that I did. The walk from the terminal to the car rental desks was LONG, arduous, and literally transversed multiple city blocks in a skywalk that took about fifteen or twenty minutes to walk. No kidding. I felt like I was walking towards Connecticut and would be there any second. That, however, is not the fault of the rental car company. Just FYI. Don't be in a hurry, because it takes forever. At least there's nice artwork from the Rhode Island School of Design on the way. There's a Sunoco gas station right around the corner (make the first right, the first right, go over a little bridge, and make a right into the parking lot), and the owner in there was pretty cool. read more

Oh this place... Rented a compact. It was a Kia Rio that wasn't clean, had a side mirror that didn't adjust, and the key hole for the trunk was caved in. When we brought it back they graciously gave us a 10% coupon for our next Dollar rental. They also said the next time we come back they'd remember us and give us an upgrade. No thanks, we'll try another company. Hopefully other people have had better experiences and will review them. If you do use this place make sure you leave a little more time as the rental and return lines are manned by one guy each. read more

Green location and everytime i return a car the overcharge me a fee and every week i have to call and dispute it. Would have left a 3/4 star review as I had an average experience both times that I rented from them. They people shifting the cars are awesome! There was one girl at the desk that had an attitude. The next time I went back for car #2, I had excellent service. Phone rep on national line was horrible and not CS friendly. I am leaving a 1 star review as I received a bill in the mail yesterday for toll fines that I did not incur. Dollar did not even call me and ask me. They just sent everything to this collection firm in AZ. According to the statement, Dollar was saying I took their rental car from RI to Maine. I don't know how that could be possible considering I never left RI with it and only took it to work as my Jaguar was in service. The car only went from Cranston to West Kingston without any tolls being encountered. I am disputing the bill, but this was very shady, unprofessional and cheeky. I love Dollar - they always provide great quality cars, and being a Dollar Express member you can skip the line and pick up your vehicle. The prices are usually among the lowest available yet they still offer top quality cars like Toyotas or Subarus. At return they provide a printed receipt immediately as well as email me a copy right away, which is a big deal for me as a frequent business traveler. I just had a bad experience in that regard with a different company which is a low cost rental and the difference was huge. I have been impressed by Dollar time and again and I will continue to choose Dollar whenever possible. read more

Worst place to rent a car! Terrible customer service!!! Buyer beware switch and bate. I rented this through Southwest Airlines and I was quoted 276. With taxes and no drop charge. I had it for 1 day and plastic under front fender lost it's bolts and started to drag, I called many #'s before I could get in touch with roadside help, they said they would get a truck out to pick up car, but refused to give me a new car, so I told them to close it out. I am at a convention and do not have 3 hours to take to come 1 hour to get a new car! Never called me to tell me they got the car they picked up, they sent me a bill larger than a week would cost me. They had many charges on bill and charged me for 3 days instead of one. They have no direct # and when I called to talk to anyone they transfer me to many people who could not help me! They won't resolve this matter or let me talk to anyone to resolve it with! Beware !!!!! My suggestion is do not ever rent from Dollar Rental or be prepared to be ripped off!! read more

So I get an estimate on my 3 day rental car with Dollar Rental car for $97 for 3 days. I'm thinking great deal. My cc is charged $270. I called them, waited on hold for over a half hour. Then guy on phone says well we can delete a few charges and comes up with 220 I say no. I'll dispute with cc. He goes back and says how about 150. I say no. Then he comes back with 112. BEWARE!! I rented a standard size car for four days at the airport in Providence RI. The estimated cost was $379.98, a cost I considered excessive for such a short duration. Because of a emergency room vist early that day, I only had 40 mins to board the flight from the time I arrived at PVD. I had no choice but to incur fuel charge and forgo refueling before returning the vehicle. The tank was just over half full when I droped off the car. I knew that the cost was only $26 to fill the tank. Returning the car with over half a tank, my revised bill was $561.26!! This is unacceptable and I do not understand how Dollar can justify the $181 overcharge. Call to the service center was fruitless, they refused to adjust the bill. Circumstances of being in a Maine hospital which severly cut into free time to refuel were not considered. I have the hospital bill for verification of facts and will contest this charge on my VISA card. As previously stated, BEWARE of this complete rip-off, which is nothing less than criminal! The Attorney General will also receive communication from me on this supplemental charge and require justification for what I consider nothing short of thievery. read more

TERRIBLE! Made a reservation online then immediately called to confirm it afterwards letting them know I was on a huge time crunch. Well needless to say I get to the airport to pick up the car and the price not only went up $130 from my initial quote but then they tell me they don't have a car! Even with all my confirmation emails etc NOTHING. I move to the next counter to rent elsewhere and they tell me all they have are SUV's at $350 a day!! WHAT!? Disaster! I went through Expedia and was quoted about $33/day for an Impala. As other people have said, that cost was grossly inflated. When all was said and done, it cost me about $247 for two days. Our flight was delayed, and we tried to call so that the reservation would not be cancelled. We called no fewer than 6 times. No one answered. My girlfriend called and let the phone ring so long that it hung up. The reservation was cancelled. I would not rent from these folks again. Definitely not a professional operation. read more
