I was biking in San Fran and it was cool out and I needed a sweatshirt. They had just what I needed and it was $24.99. I put it on and double-checked with the lady in the front of the store as to the price and she said $24.99, the clerk will know. He rang up on my receipt an item I didn't purchase for $1.99 so the total for the sweatshirt was $26.98 minus the tax. Really shitty of the dude to do that just because it was cool out. Two dollars is not a lot of money but I hate being ripped off for any reason. BTY... their phone number goes to a fax machine. read more

Since I totally like Spanish music (not kidding!) I rocked out a little as I walked around this place for a minute. We were on our way up the street but $1 for more items is always fun to shop in. Lots of childrens items, over-sized undies (again, not kidding) and toiletries on the wall where you enter. Some DVDs (also in Spanish) for $1. A very long food aisle was where I ended up finding an item for puchase. I had my Washington in one hand and a bag of veggie chips in the other. It was actually just over a dollar for the chips, and they were actually mostly corn with spinach as almost a final ingredient. But the price was right! Great little shop that I'm sure the neighborhood appreciates given the low prices! read more

My go-to neighborhood dollar store. When the other discount stores seem to be out of stock, Dollar Only never seems to let me down. I always check here for home goods, kitchen wares, or bathroom supplies before I go anywhere else. Cheap soap, detergent, shampoo, razors, aluminum foil, tupperware, TP, etc. Name brands aren't usually for sale, but it's a dollar store at 16th & Mission and it's super cheap - there's little else to say, really. read more

When I lived nearby I did a lot of my shopping for hygiene basics here. A few years later its still pretty much the same. It's true not everything is a dollar but they're good about labeling the things that aren't (I don't think anything is higher than $2 anyway). One new thing is that when I walked around the back corner looking for something some asshole recorded voice yelled "YOUR MOVEMENTS HAVE TRIGGERED THE SECURITY SYSTEM. YOU ARE BEING RECORDED." The fuck was that for? Fuck off, asshole robot voice, I'm not doing shit but shopping. Other than Automated Paul Blart it's still OK even though they didn't sell the size of screwdriver I needed :( read more

I used to really love this store but since it became "Dollar on Up" from "Dollar Only" over a year ago it has gotten MUCH more expensive. When they changed names, most items went up to $1.25 and others went up more so at least a 30% price increase in the items I buy. Since that time, more and more items have gone up in price. It's still a decent deal on many things but now a lot of times you can get stuff on sale for a better deal at Safeway. Contrary to others, I think the staff is nice enough but it is a dollar-ish store at 16th & Mission so my expectations are pretty low. read more

Not only did he do that, I gathered up 75 flags, put them in a basket for me and rolled it to the cashier. They are always so sweet and kind at this store...and I always find what i need in a pinch! These guys suck. I bought an umbrella out of desperation here. I literally opened it twice on a day that was not in the slightest windy and it broke the second time I opened it. I had run downtown and came back to the store within two hours they said nope, we can't exchange it. No exchanges. I have no idea how such a small store manages to carry so many items. All sorts of cosmetics, and though a lot of it's cheesy crap, in-between that you can find genuine cool-looking doodads. A whole aisle full of pens, pads, posterboards, tape and suchlike made it possible to throw together a costume for the annual April Fool's Day Saint Stupid's Parade, a San Francisco Freak institution that I do my best to never miss, and when I go I like to get dolled up in glitter and carry goofy signs. I had an hour and five bucks and I managed to do it. There's also some clothing, but unlike other dollar stores I see a sad lack of XXL sizes, but when I go to this one, it's usually for sundries and craftsy bric a brac, not Stuff to Wear. All the cheap stuff you'd pay five bucks for at Walgreen's like bandaids, lotion, anti-bacterial soap, etceterata can be found here - and whaddya know, most of the items are actually still only a dollar. I spent an hour and walked out with fifteen dollars in stuff once, some of which I'm still using. Wouldn't go here for food - the dollar store, or rather dollar-and-a-quarter store on Market between 7th and 8th Streets is better for food and also for housecleaning supplies and kitchen stuff. But you'll find some of these items here, just not as wide a selection. Go here for gizmos, lighters, nail clippers, key rings, cheap makeup and nailpolish, weird bracelets, socks, toiletries, and artsy-craftsy stuff. And if you have kids and need to do the birthday party thing (the last thing on MY head since I'm proudly spayed, sans offspring) you'll find you can get just about everything you need but the frigging cake here. Tablecloths, napkins, party favours, toys, school stuff for the moppets are found in profusion - the same crap, again, you find a block away at Walgreen's for 400% more. I wish I lived closer to this place...it would save me tons of money. read more

I often frequent this dollar store(which is not really a dollar store anymore) for items that I consider miscellaneous such as toiletries and household stuff such as sponges, dish pans, washing powder, dishwasher product and office supplies. Oh, yes, I get some really good choices for party favorite banners etc. Sometimes, when I have time to just look, I find some interesting items. I ALWAYS leave with more than I plan to purchase which I think speaks volumes. The people who wait on you and the door person are very nice. I like this one out of all of the ones in San Francisco that I know about. So far so good with them! I have been shopping there about 5 years now. read more

I came to this store to look for party supplies. There wasn't a huge selection, but a fair selection. I didn't find the party supplies I needed, but I did find a Barack and Michelle Obama valentines day poster that was hilarious. I gave them an extra star for the poster :) read more

Good store! Convenient location! Near bus routes 14, 22, 33, 49, 55, and 16th/Mission BART station. But they're no longer a "Dollar Only". Everything starts at like $1.35, I think. and some stuff is higher. Plus there's a pretty annoying fake security system in the back of the store. Every time the motion sensor senses movement it lets out a "Warning" about suspicious behavior in the back of the store. But they have a great selection and competitive prices, the people who work there are super cool, and I always end up buying way more than I anticipated. Question: What do you get from the store that has everything? Answer: Anything you need or want. Just watch out if you buy their super cheap BIC lighters. Sometimes they run out awfully quick! It almost seems like their half-used by the time we get 'em. But I really doubt they actually are. Hey, you get what you pay for, right? read more

ON APRIL 10, 2015 HAD TO CALL THE POLICE RE: THE STORE RIPING ME OFF. Used to buy hundreds of dollars every month and have for years as an apartment owner in the city I buy all kinds of stuff. ...buttttt, I won't be going back after I get my money back for NINE faulty locks paid $90+ dollars as they were selling them for nearly $9 each. I had all the keys stolen and had to get locks changed and/or rekeyed. Lock smith I use suggested I go to dollar to buy replacement locks for nine storage units and avoid having to drive to Home Depot in Daly City. I was first shocked the price was more than Home Depot. Bought them anyway to save on gas/time/trip to Daily City. Installed one lock and nearly got locked into a storage unit because the lock just spun from the inside. I thought it must be a one off defective lock so tried two more before realizing they are ALL defective. I therefore took all nine back including the three strikes your out that proved defective. They refused to take them back saying they have no return policy. I said not a dollar and defective products can't be NO refund policy. They continued to refuse, I asked for owner, they refused, I asked for manager, one of the girls at the counter took the opened locks to a cowardice/hiding manager somewhere in the back. They kept me there waiting before the girl came back and said the manager said they would exchange them, I said no way, not interested, three were junk not going to try a ton more. I reiterated I wanted my money back. They continued to refuse, I asked for the name of owner-knew him by face when he was at his Filmore store but don't know his name. They refused to give me his name, the "manager" refused to come out of his hole in the back to speak to me. I asked for the phone number to the store and the correct legal name so I could file a small claims action. All requests were refused so I called the police. They showed up while I waited outside in my vehicle. Police got the cowardice manager to emerge from his hiding place and explained to him he could either give me my money back or give me valid info. to contact the owner. The police asked me to come in and the manager-who looked very drunk to me-started in again saying he'd only give me store credit for the six unowned locks but no credit or refund for the three junk locks already opened. The police chimed in again reminding him HE has no legal right to refuse a refund for defective products nor a right to force me to accept a store credit in lieu of refund. They told him either refund what I bought or give me the owner info. He wrote down the name as Nulare Dollar Inc. his own cowardice name vs. the owners name and the phone number. Police suggested I sue in small claims and research owners name and agent for service of process to do so. To say I am furious is beyond an understatement. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. If the cowardice drunk looking manager worked for me he'd already be on unemployment. read more

This store still has a very good selection of low priced goods, but it is no longer a real dollar store. The last time I took a basket of goods to pay for them, many items were much more than $1 and none of them had been so marked. So, one does not even know how much something will cost until he gets checked out. One would have to ask about each item before he would decide to buy it. That is just not good business practice, although I will return to ask about the prices of a few things. read more
