Careful though, they are about the last place on earth that doesn't take credit cards of any type, so your pockets better be lined with gold (coins) when you step through the doors. The other day I was running late for a dinner party (TYPICAL), and swung into Bread Barn to pick up the necessary sweets I promised I would bring. I chose a small apple tart, a small caramel cake with cream cheese frosting and a small chocolate cake with some sort of thick buttercream on the top. For only $12 for all 3, I was out the door and off to my friend's place. After the meal, I split the little treats up into bit sized pieces and arranged them on a platter. There were 6 adults, and I would say the 3 cakes/tarts were WELL enough. We found the two cakes to be a little dense and dry. Who wants to guess how long they might have been hanging out in that pastry case?? The apple tart, however, was sweet and cinnamon-y and quite nice indeed. I might have had more success with the cakes if I could have lubed them up with some ice cream. But hey, can't win 'em all.

There are croissants and bread rolls, too. Some of the items however, did look like they had been out on display a bit too long. Most everything in this bakery café is affordable, from the $4 cakes to the $3 coffee. The coffee here is really good. The bread is actually quite good, but I did find it expensive. The loaf that I brought home had the great artisan flavor that is present in all rustic and homemade breads. The people that work here are extremely friendly and great at recommending the freshest of today's selections.

It's a favourite spot for locals and people working in the area to meet for breakfast / brunch / lunch. The patisserie offers a great range of sandwiches and savory treats, including delicious meat pies and sausage rolls. There is also a huge selection of cakes and desserts. I love the macaroons, which are available in a wide range of flavors (salted caramel is my favorite). I ordered several dozen of these for my wedding two years ago, and everyone loved them.

You hit a river of warm chocolate. Once you finish that croissant you'll need to have a cigarette ;) This bakery is located in a pretty industrial area and from the outside it doesn't look like much. But boy oh boy is it good. They make everything in house in the morning and as fair as I'm aware there's only one guy making everything. There's fruit tarts, sourdough loaves, croissants and more. Go early though!! The good stuff sells early.

I preferred the pistachio Kurtosh. The hazelnut one was like candy on top of the cone and very crunchy like candy. These are made to order so take around 10 or 15 minutes. Not really ideal for a grab and go but was worth the stop. They have a ton of other pastries as well that are pay by the pound. The kurtosh was really good, especially with coffee. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here but if nearby I would definitely go again.

Or mayyyybe actually the Lemon Crumble Cheesecake. Pretty much mention Mum's Chocolate Cake and I'm ready to trip someone over for a bite! If you can't choose, you could order a sliver of each and call it day. This is the best bit about Kurtosh - everything is sold by weight, and there's no minimum (or maximum) for what you buy. So you can literally order a sliver each of four kinds of cake. Hoorah! Extra bonus: open late so you can pop in for after dinner dessert.

The bread itself was dense enough to hold up the cheese and bacon, but airy enough that it didn't immediately fill us all up. The bacon was perhaps a smidge less cooked than I generally like, but it was still very yummy. We had a few coffees also, and they were all delicious. I have a severe coffee addiction, and really considered buying one of their mugs despite the fact that I no longer have any room in my cabinets for more drinkware. IT WAS SO GOOD THOUGH. We also got a loaf of their house bread to go, so we could snack on our trip between meals and in the mornings and such (yeah, we're real chunkers, okay?). It was light and airy and delicious and perfect. I wish we had a bakery like this close to my house back home, though that'd probably be dangerous. It's nice to hsve seating but in one case a table and chairs block the counter and you can't see the prepared foods, even with no one sitting there. They also have various coffees and other drinks.
