I tried going to this place once when it was located in Capo Beach some time back. At that time, I found the clothes to be very overpriced and worn out and, in some cases more than the same thing new. Then I found out they are all there on consignment, and the owner, a very nasty female, taking exorbitant commissions as her 'fee.' So the other day I was in SC and so I popped in and brought home some used garments in my size. (Still overpriced I see). After wearing a shirt from them, I got the most awful rash of my life and had go to my derm doc, taking the garment with me and found out the garment was loaded with something akin to bed bugs and they bit me all to heck and back. I had to take medicine to get over it and it took over two weeks to resolve. When I asked the owner for a refund, (very nasty lady, did I mention that, rude and condescending), telling her what happened, she flatly refused and so I ended up throwing the garment away! Awful place. Awful owner. Check her other reviews - she was asked to leave Capo Beach by the city of Dana Point and had awful reviews from many people in Dana Point so she fled. We parked to go inside and got yelled at for parking to go into pizza port. If your an avid pizza port goer you park on the street above! Wasn't in the mood to actually go inside after. Decided to give it a second chance and go in with a friend, they have a huge inventory and lots of cute things! I found a scarf I really liked but it didn't have a price tag on it so I went to the counter and I'm guessing from previous reviews was the owner. This used to be a fun clothing exchange/consignment type store when it was on Doheny Road. It is nothing like that now, I don't know where they get their inventory...I love Boho but this place is way too kitschy now. And though they say their inventory is mostly "new", like most thrift stores you have to search through all the frogs before you get a prince. And they are way over priced... Pricing those hats from China at $49 is ridiculous. In fact, many items don't even have tickets and when asked most everything seems to be either $49 or $89... Terrible marketing. Don't call it an exchange if it isn't. Went here when it was in Doheny, and I had as I recall a good experience. I've exchanged here before. Today at their new San Clemente location totally different. I understand the times, and I get why they are no longer exchanging or buying. But when I asked about buying/exchanging, they were short and dismissive. My constructive feedback is next time someone ask, be nice/kind and ask if they would like to look at the merchandise instead of saying you have a wrong sign up as your store front. The store looked super cute from the outside. We pulled into a parking spot to check how crowded the restaurant was nextdoor. My husband got out quickly, like less that one minute then the ran out screaming at us that this was her stores parking. There were literally 3 spots on both sides of us and again, it was 60 seconds he ran out. If we were to actually eat at said restaurant, we would have moved, I was sitting in the car with my 2 children. Annnnd I was going to come in bc her stuff looked cute. Yuck. Ehh this place was pretty rad when it was in capo beach area, but now it's new location it's just not the same. They say they trade your clothes for theirs but it needs to be help to their standards and really 'trendy' things, and about 4 pairs of pants and 3 shirts from your trades(if they even accept that much from you) somehow is equivalent to 1 or 2 things of their clothing off the rack. It has always been pretty pricey at old and new location but unless you have a lot of money and don't care where it goes then go ahead and stop by cause you will find some cute things.. but it's not worth it for the price of everything and how rude the workers are at new location. For me, I like to donate my clothes I'm getting rid of because I know there are so many people in need and would love what I'm getting rid of, and going there is not the place to do that, they probably won't take any of it, maybe one or 2 things because the rest isn't trendy or not worth buying in their eyes and I don't care for a business that acts that way when trying to donate. I am much happier donating to Mercy Warehouse or other non-profits or thrift stores that will thankfully accept my clothes knowing that they will go to someone who will appreciate them. read more

Under-impressed by the selection. Stains on quite a few items and just nothing that I felt was very on trend. Possibly I will try again as maybe I just came on a bad day. A very positive 3 stars for Doheny Clothing Exchange. It won best store in Dana Point again this year and I heard it was a good place to sell your old clothes so I went to check it out. The owner is super nice, she looked at my items right away. She only bought one pair of jeans, but that's fine. The clothes were not really my style, but the store is set up very nicely. You don't get a thrift store feel at all, spacious, no clutter or overstuffed racks, makes a regular boutique shopping experience. She has very fair prices and also pays fair prices, I live too far out of the way to go back, but am glad I went. read more

Doheny clothing exchange is amazing, you can find branded, good condition clothing for a reasonable price. This store reminds me of buffalo exchange, I grew up in la and that's where I'd always go. This place not only gets a good flow of styling clothing, the people that own and even work there are extremely friendly every time I go in. They remember their customers which is really good and shows that they truly care about their customer flow and it's not about making the money. Majority of my clothing are from this store and I have gotten many compliments about my clothing or outfits and I always tell them to check out thrift stores but Doheny exchange in particular. Definitely do not recommend. First and foremost, not wearing any masks or asking anyone to wear masks while we are still in pandemic. Honestly not sure how they're even open not being essential. Also, hours said 11 but they didn't open the store until noon, and acted like I was a nuisance for being there at the time of their posted hours. Staff was just rude and cold, negative vibes. I thought it might have just been me but then I started reading other reviews and a lot of people got the same vibe. Seems like if you don't fit their ideals they completely write you off. On Nov 18-2020 I went into the store asked the lady who was a store manager how much a jacket was it had not tag in it. She quoted me 49.00. I went into the dressing room tried the jacket on. She asked me how it looked. I walked out to pay for the jacket. Manager was on the phone talking to the store owner and the owner told the manager that the jacket was 89.00. The manager said it was a nice jacket and the price quoted as too low. I said calmly unfortunately you quoted it at 49.00. I said you should have your merchandise tagged. Most items have no tags. I told them its unfortunate that the price was not quoted correctly. They would not let me buy the jacket at the quoted 49.00 price. I remember this store when opened in Doheny. We love this store. I have 3 daughters and all 4 of us shop there frequently. Through the years we've bought several fun and unique formal prom style dresses. We are always looking for something different. Unique. Doheny Exchange never disappoints. We follow them on Instagram and between the 4 of us we are regularly tagging each other in their posts. "Mom, I NEED this!!" LOL Their prices are always fair and reasonable. We love that it is a family owned business. I am a huge supporter of female entrepreneurs and small businesses owners. Doheny Exchange is exactly what our local community is all about. If you haven't visited their store, I highly recommend you do. They run a great business and they know style. Overpriced. They get a cute selection of clothes, but they are just too overpriced for used items. Some even have major damages, and they don't even drop the price. I've sold here in the past, and didn't find it to be a good experience. At Buffalo Exchange, another buy/sell/trade store, they mark the clothes with a price tag immediately with the amount they've quoted you. Here at Doheny Clothing Exchange, they will just look at the item and throw out a number (without writing it down or creating a price tag right then and there). This then allows them to screw you over which I know has happened to me: They bought a jacket off of me and they told me they'd only sell it for $12 because it was an old Wet Seal brand/style and that it wasn't in season for it. I went back another day to shop and just skimmed through the racks to see if my items had been sold or not. I found the jacket and it was being sold for $23. So I basically got $6 store credit while they went ahead and sold my jacket for 4x more. Poor business ethics. Also, very snotty. read more

I recently started following their instagram and would see all their cute items and figured they would be stocked with super chic items. I kept telling myself I had to go to their store and check everything else out. Today was that day. I managed to convince my husband to go with me since they have advertised men's clothing on their instagram as well, and instantly regretted it as we walked in. The store itself is clean but they're not as well stocked as I had hoped. Their racks are only partially filled -- it could be because there were bags of clothes on her counter. I wish she could have put those out onto the floor already for everyone to see. Also, there was an item that I had really wanted that they advertised on their Instagram and when I went in to see it in person, it had a stain on it. Double checked the instagram post, and they used a hat to cover it so no one would see it. I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon to the store unless I find something I really have to have on their Instagram. Like other reviews, very overpriced. A tiny, fake silk scarf I found was $20 (in a bunch of others that were even more expensive). I'm bummed that this is one of the only thrift stores in the Dana Point area. I've come to the front desk before and asked about clothing I have to possibly sell. I've always been treated poorly, but this last time in particular, the owner said to me, "Look, I have all of this to deal with. Can you give me a minute?" mentioning the giant, unorganized and ALWAYS there pile of clothing on her desk. Ah, I guess she doesn't want my business. The owner's daughter told me it was a family owned business when I had inquired about a job in January. However, the daughter of the place next door works there whenever she wants and gets paid. It's a better deal to try and repurpose your clothing than even attempt selling it here. You won't get the time of day, and exchanges aren't worth it. read more

THE WORST EXPERIENCE YET-- LET ME EXPLAIN The owner is super rude. If you don't believe me read the other reviews... I asked her to take a dress off a mannequin for me and she took it off, held the dress up to me and claimed it was "way too small and it was teeny tiny" she kept droning on about how terribly small it was, alluding to the fact there was no way it would fit. Overall the clothes there are expensive for a "thrift shop". I tried making light heart conversation with her, she ignored everything i said. I had never been here before but I have heard so much hype about this store! So I finally had to come and check it out for myself! The absolutely most adorable stunning and perfect outfits you could find for any occasion all in one place! My closet was looking so dull and boring and I wasn't finding anything that really jumped out at me at the mall or just didn't have the patience to deal with the crowds there. I spent over 2 hours in here because I couldn't stop shopping, everything I tried on just looked so cute I couldn't pass it up! Will definitely recommend this store to everyone I know and now I know what all the hype was about. Brand names from purses to shoes to jewelry dresses, bikinis, the list does on! I went in once to bring some clothes, etc for consignment. Asked about the store credit or cash I said I would take cash. As the gal looked through my items, she told me definitely NO on some. Fine, I put them aside to take back to car. Meanwhile a gal who saw one of my items I had set aside that were not being purchased by store, said she liked it and how much did I want for it. The store gal jumped right in and said "You need to but that from me"!! Excuse meeeee....the customer and I looked at each other dumfounded. I absolutely love Doheny Clothing Exchange!! They are extremely affordable and have some amazing clothing, and shoes!! The store is on Doheny Park Rd, which is the perfect location! I would suggest everyone swing by on their free time...they will be addicted!! This is one of my favorite stores in South County! I will NEVER step foot into the mall again!! The owners have an amazing eye with their selection, with great taste, and style!! ( It's a shame that some people get so offended when bringing cloths in. If they took everything that came in, the store wouldn't be so unique! Very disturbing visit last weekend. I did not read reviews prior to stepping into store, otherwise I would not have. My family of 4 went to walk around the area to go shopping, it was a cooler day so we were carrying sweatshirts around our purses. My 14 year old daughter walked ahead of me into the shop and I followed a couple minutes behind her. I was looking through a rack when my daughter walked out to wait with my husband and son who were seated outside the door. The older woman employee followed my daughter out of the store and asked if that was her own sweatshirt (an older Old Navy sweatshirt!) as she continued to inspect the sweatshirt from afar. I thought my daughter dropped her sweatshirt and the lady was asking if it was her sweatshirt to return it, until I walked out a minute later and she came up to me looking at my sweatshirt clearly checking if I stole it. I then realized what was happening and I held it up before she asked and said, "This is my sweatshirt, I walked in with it and that is my daughter's. It is cold outside so we brought sweatshirts." She went on to say that she has video cameras all over recording people in the stores, to which I responded, "Great, it will show us walking in with our sweatshirts." She actually walked out of the store when telling us this still looking at our sweatshirts and explaining how they have been having a lot of problems with people stealing and they have been losing money. No, maybe your attitude and treatment of customers is driving people away. There were a couple other people in the store, but no one else was treated this way. My daughter said the lady watched her and followed her from the moment she walked in. It was a very bad experience and my daughter did not stop talking about how it made her feel the rest of our day. I think I was so shocked in the moment that I did not call her out on her behavior like I should have. Now I've read other reviews of mother-daughter shoppers who were treated the same. The shop a few doors down is 150% better, support the lovely woman there. From the moment we stepped through the door, she welcomed us in, told us the deals she would give us and told us to feel free to try anything on in the dressing room. Of all the OC consignment stores, this is the only one from which she purchases anything. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and very down to earth.
