A gem of a bakery in the ADK! Bread sells out so go early or call and place an order for pick up later Pizzas on Friday are fabulous! Small cases sell other local products- yogurt, cheese, meats... small selection of dry goods for sale read more

There are a couple of very bad reviews here. Do not believe them for a minute. Those people have some kind of axe to grind. We've been coming to this area from Brooklyn, NY every summer for over 30 years. When we head about Dogwood, we were sure their bagels were bogus, and we were wrong. The bagels are every bit as good as NYC's best. The Kalamata olive loaf is my favorite bread there. My husband's fave is the jalapeno cheddar. We both like the baguette. Bread is baked fresh every morning. The scones are to die for, especially the lemon ginger. We've had lunch there a few times, and the sandwiches have always been very good, but none stand out for me. The service is excellent, the dining room is open and full of light, and the bathroom is clean and all gender. This place is an absolute gem, and we are big food snobs, so believe me. read more

Country bakery at its finest! Cozy decor, home baked goodness, friendly, and ambiance of yesteryear.

Wide selection of delicious baked goods. Bagels, breads, scones, tarts..... you name it, they have it! It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it's on the way when you are taking the Essex ferry to Vermont. I make it a point to stop there when I'm in the area. read more

Quaint bagel and bread shop with organic products in the middle of nowhere. We had the turkey sandwich, grilled cheese with tomato and mozzarella tomato basil sandwich. Everything was fresh and homemade multigrain bread hit the spot! Had to get a fresh cookie for dessert - chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin to finish the lunch. read more

We came here after heading west from the ferry. It was about 330 so no pizza left. So my partner ordered the turkey sandwich and I got the cranberry-almond scone and an iced mocha coffee. Delicious and as perfect as they could be! The sandwich came with a simple lettuce-red-cabbage-cucumber side with pleasant a vinaigrette dressing. Everything was super-fresh. This bakery is legitimately good. The place is artsy and welcoming with outside and inside seating areas. The door is on the side! We were happy we came here and would love to go again for Good Food. read more

We had their Friday pizza and came back the next day for breakfast. The food was great and the service was just as good. Don't skip out on the cookies! read more

Delicious breakfast sandwiches - ham, egg, and cheese on a toasted bagel. Delicious iced coffee. Delicious sourdough bread. Delicious cinnamon buns. That's all I ate but I'm sure everything else is just as delicious, especially the pizza, which I'm disappointed we missed out on during our week stay. The location is in a small, quiet town by the river and both the inside and outside decor are beautiful and cozy. I just wish I didn't live so far away or I'd be there multiple times a week! read more

Go! Just go! Wow everything we had here was amazing! The olive sourdough loaf is delish, spinach feta quiche, cheese bagel with lox and cream cheese and the chowder! We will be back for sure as we pass on our way to Essex ferry.. don't miss out! read more

My partner and I made a special trip to Wadhams to have lunch at Dogwood Bread Company today and what a disappointment! We ordered two BLT sandwiches: the bacon on each was fatty bacon bits, a little bit of greens, and NO TOMATOE! The sandwiches were served with a small scoop of coleslaw on each plate for a price of $10 per sandwich. We also had the cinnamon buns and these were tasty. If we ever return, it'll likely be for the buns, not the sandwiches. On our return to Plattsburgh we stopped off at Jersey Mike's at Consumer Square for a sub because we were hungry after such a poor lunch at Dodwood and the Italien sub was excellent for a lot less money. Great service and an awesome selection of goods! Their pizza nights are the bomb! Me and the guys love going there on our lunch break. Would highly recommend this place for grabbing a bite to eat if you enjoy good company, a nice environment, and amazing service! Even the music they play rocks and the staff always looks like their having a fun time! Can't get enough of Dogwood! read more

An ideal stop for those headed to/from I-87 or on their way to/from the Essex-Charlotte ferry. My wife, infant son, and I stopped here at the end of our Vermont vacation and were sufficiently intrigued by the menu choices to purchase a sourdough loaf and order lunch. Well, I haven't opened the loaf yet but I can attest to the extreme deliciousness of the sandwich I ordered. Toasted cheese with spinach, bacon and balsamic reduction may seem a bit on the decadent side, esp. for those trying to cut back on the calories, but man, is this one tasty sandwich. Unfortunately it was a little early for lunch, so we drove a couple hours before we found a suitable rest area to sit and eat -- by which time the sandwiches were no longer warm. But they were still amazing. Dogwood also serves as a mini-grocery for various organic goods. The hours vary depending on time of year, but it seems to be generally open on Fridays and Saturdays, Don't miss this essential spot! read more

All praise to that oasis of farm-to-table cuisine. The breads are fantastic with a wide range of textures and flavors. I personally love the jalapeño/cheddar or the 7-grain. Their soups are also delicious and healthy. If you're lucky, you'll arrive after 4:30 when they have their pizza oven fired up! Check their hours and call first. Many thanks. read more

Great pizza and scones and breakfast sandwiches! Finally can walk into store. Be sure to check hours of operation before you go. Showed up at 3pm one afternoon and they were closed. read more

LOVE this place!! Great food - pizzas on Fridays, great sandwiches, handy grocery items, great staff, a true local gem.

This place is as good as it gets out in Westport, NY! I don't think I've had a chocolate chip cookie as good as the ones here at Dogwood. I remember coming here all the time in the summer of 2009 just for those cookies. Worth every crumb. Their pizza is also pretty bomb on pizza nights - thin crust with the best toppings. They have picnic tables outside for dining which made for a lovely evening with friends. I'm pretty sure I was introduced to the world of Margherita pizza here at Dogwood. Super friendly staff and great bakery/cafe items all around. Ugh, but those cookies. are. to die. for. read more

Convenient lunch spot for those taking the ferry. We stopped here on the way from the ferry to 87 S. It was the perfect location to get good food before our only options were fast food at rest stops. The lunch options are not extensive, but include sandwiches, salads, and soups. There were only 5 sandwich options. These might change regularly, as there were blackboards but no printed menu. I was pleasantly surprised to get a nice side salad with my sandwich, but wasn't blown away by my mozzarella, basil, and sun dried tomato sandwich. The ham, cheddar, and spicy mustard, as well as the grilled cheese with ham and tomato got higher marks, and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious! There are also a lot of local meats, produce, and speciality items for sale. read more

Great bread and sandwiches and soup. Near by and excellent. The sour dough is a recommend

Stopped in here during an anniversary trip. The pizza was great and it's a cool place. But it appears to be very popular with the locals as we got there around 5 and took the last table. There was a line out the door by the time we left. read more

Nothing I have ever had at Dogwood is notable, and some of the things I have had there were terrible. Coffee cake was stale and had nothing going for it anyway. Sourdough was stale and burned on the bottom. For whatever reason, it's achieved some kind of foodie credibility, but in my opinion it has no business being well regarded, let alone highly regarded. It's the best around I guess, but there's nothing around. read more

Dogwood has great potential to be an excellent restaurant and store in the area. However, the ownership of Dogwood appears more interested in what they like and prefer, rather than customers. Also, Dogwood has unpredictable hours of business, unfriendly service and very limited options. It seems that Dogwood's owners feel they take advantage of customers in the region because there are not many options. Well, I have given up on Dogwood as have several of my friends. We are disappointed, but the problems mentioned never seem to improve of go away. Not worth the stop! read more

Lots of yummy selections, it's all take out now because of the pandemic but everything is delicious and fresh as always. I am writing this review on a day they are closed because I dreamt of their breakfast bagel with ham and cheddar last night and this feels like a good way to honor it. Truly a gem of the north country. read more

Dogwood Bread Company - Yum! - Sandwiches Near Me - Wadhams, New York

Have bought bread here a couple of times and it is very good. Last time we bought what looked like a coffee cake loaf. It was ok, but not up the standards of the breads. Our favorite thing here though is the Friday night pizza. Pizza's are done in a wood oven and have some funky topping combo's in addition to a solid pepperoni pizza. Other wood fired pizza establishments have got nothing on the Dogwood, the pizza is top notch. They have a couple of decent beers on tap and we are hoping they swap out the current brews at some point to try something else. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. If you need plates and utensils, you just grab them yourself. Same with clean-up, just put the dishes and stuff on the shelf as you leave. Relaxed atmosphere with a pretty diverse crowd. Seating is inside and out. No reason to stop going, we are becoming regulars. read more

This is the best little sandwich shop with the cutest vibe. Great beer selections as well as tea, good food and awesome staff! We drove through on the way to Canada and I'm highly impressed. Here's to hoping we come back this way on the way home read more

Great wood oven baked bread and pizza. Worth planning your week's meals to coincide with the nights they serve (July Aug Wed and Fri only) pizza. Love the bold flavors on the pizza and crisp burnt edges are delicious. I always buy 8-10 loaves of baguettes for big meals (with and without seeds) and the crispy crust and soft inside reminds of the best brochen I've had in EU--I have run out of bread three years in row it is so popular. Lots of organic products and locally sourced vegetables while they last. read more

Love this place! We come here for bread when we stay in the area for the summer and come to pizza night every week bc it's so good! I dream about this pizza during the winter back home bc it's that good. -jalapeño cheese bread is delish! All the bread is great but that's my personal favorite. -the farm stand outside is nice to get some yummy fresh produce on your way in or out! The other grocery selection they have inside is good to grab some healthy things for cooking at home! -the pizza crust is so good. I think it's better than grimaldis in Brooklyn! That's saying a lot. -great porch to sit outside when the weather is nice! Get yourself to pizza night now!! read more

I saw this tiny little bakery in the heart of Wadhams and I thought to myself, "Yeah, I'll grab a bite." To my dismay, when I walked in they were engaging in ancient rituals to bring back the dark Lord Satan. I asked what was going on and the owner informed me that every other Tuesday there is a devil worshipers of the North Country meeting where they praise their God. A little strange but the foods good. read more

Great place to stop by when passing through the area. Food was delicious - bread was amazing. Definitely recommended.

Great breakfast sandwich. Excellent cranberry bread. Oh and the cinnamon roll was outstanding. Enjoyed the pizzas. Nice thin crust. Friendly people. read more

This place is a great bakery, and I should just use them for that. It gets really crowded and that slows down the service. Don't forget to call or check their website, as they are not open every day. read more

Great spot for vegans/vegetarians, I love bread and after trying many different bakeries in Vermont, and Upstate N.Y I have come to the conclusion that Dogwood Bread Company has the best naturally leavened breads including sesame, cranberry almond, and a sourdough that will make you pucker your lips. They also carry a great deal of vegan/vegetarian specialty items that no other store in the area would think of carrying. Including meat substitutes, nutritional yeast, sushi supplies, etc.. You can also find seasonal locally grown vegetables hanging around if the time is right. The enviroment reminds me of when I used to work in a health food store in Vermont. They also carry a choice selection of craft brews. These guys are going in a great direction!!! Thanks Dogwood!!! read more
