If your dog is at Dogtopia today, I recommend you pick them up now. I went in for a mail Appt today and was very disturbed by what I saw. All the dogs were in cages and howling in distress. One patron commented that they had been in cages since this morning. No one was upfront. No one responded to ringing the bell or hollering into the back. When both workers did come up front they seemed extremely under the influence of a substance. Neither was very with it. I'm also perturbed that I had an appointment at noon, they could not accommodate and told me to come back at 2. They still could not accommodate. After seeing the distress of the dogs today and the state the staff was in, there is 0 chance I will ever take my dog back here for play or grooming. read more

The team at the South Waterfront Dogtopia have been wonderful! I've brought my dogs Lucy & Sal in a handful of times, and they are always excited to see them and take great care of them. Dogtopia - Waterfront was recommended by our veterinarian clinic. Many staff at our vet use them for grooming and boarding so my husband and I gave them a try to groom our three English Labradors. Super friendly staff and it was easy enroll them. Completing paperwork on their health history and vaccine records took a little time, but I appreciate how thorough the registration process is to ensure all dogs entering their facility regardless if they only have a grooming appointment. My oldest Labrador can be pretty stubborn and they communicated right away that they were unable to complete the job and that we were welcomed to come back for another go. They were really caring and considerate that he was an older dog and that they did not want to cause him any discomfort or pain trimming his nails. Any dog owner would appreciate that! They get five stars from me due to their quick response times, excellent customer service, and compassion towards my pups. I would recommend to anyone looking for those qualities in a dog grooming service. read more

I've never written a 1-star review in my life, but I'm so horrified by every aspect of how this business is run that I need to say something. Hopefully my review helps out some dogs whose people are considering sending them here. Long story short: don't do it! Last Saturday, I was excited to drop my dog off for his first day of daycare at Dogtopia South Waterfront. His meet and greet went well, and the people who worked there seemed nice, so I felt great about trusting them to take care of my dog. Let it be known that I went into this whole thing with a positive attitude and every expectation of goodness. A few hours into daycare, I tried checking the webcam feed to see how my dog was doing, but it turned out I didn't have access. No biggie - the staff helped me get set up. It took a few hours and it seemed like no one knew what they were doing, but it worked out in the end and I wasn't upset about it. However, the webcams were off. I asked why and was told that it was naptime. The webcams would be back on at 2. Why would they need to turn off the cameras at naptime? Still not upset, but definitely becoming skeptical. 2pm rolled around, and then 2:15, and the webcams were still either turned off or not working. With the general vibe of disorganization and the lack of transparency, I started to get a hunch that something was wrong and decided to go to the location and see for myself what was happening. When I arrived, there were already 2 people in the lobby waiting to be helped. I rang the bell for service, and no one came. So I decided to peek through the windows into the playroom to see what I could see, and what I saw was pretty disturbing. The dogs were all caged, barking like mad and looking distressed. My dog, for example, was drooling, barking, and periodically wretching. There was no one in the room with the dogs. I came back to the lobby and rang the bell again, and again, no one came. Over the course of about 15 minutes, I alternated between looking through the playroom window and ringing the bell for service. I didn't see a single employee this whole time. I was now panicking because my dog was clearly in distress but unreachable. Finally, someone came out and asked which dog was mine. I told them his name, and they looked confused, like I had said something wrong. Then they said, "he's a big dog, right?" No - he is a Boston terrier mix. I started to get really worried because why don't the staff know which dog is which? When they finally uncovered the mystery of which dog was mine and brought him out, he was more stressed than I've ever seen him. He was drooling, panting, and had his back hunched in fear. I asked how long the dogs had been caged, and the employee said, "oh, only 2 hours, from 12-2". ONLY 2 hours!? Also, please note: It was now about 3pm, so that couldn't be true. I asked for a refund, and she promised that I would get one. She said she'd talk with the manager to get the ball rolling. It took us about 3 hours to get our dog to calm down after this experience. We had to take him out for a half-hour walk plus playtime in the backyard in order to get him back to baseline. This dog goes to daycare elsewhere all the time, and he's wiped out from playing for the rest of the day when he does. This was not a dog who had been playing and having fun all day; this was a dog who had been caged and stressed for hours. Anyway, every day from Sunday through yesterday (Tuesday) I contacted Dogtopia S. Waterfront to ask about the status of my refund, and I either received no reply or a standard "I'll check," and then no follow-up. Finally, yesterday, I was able to talk on the phone with who I believe was the same front desk person who promised me the refund, and they said that since what I purchased was a promotional item, they could not give a refund. I am now waiting for a response from their regional manager about that refund because - and you'll be shocked to hear this - they don't have a manager at South Waterfront right now. read more

I'm so glad we had this Dogtopia location right in our neighborhood, making it super convenient. When we first adopted our puppy at 3 months old, she was super shy and timid around strangers and other dogs. She also has pretty bad separation anxiety, a common trait among COVID era pups. Mapsy and Chelsea were very understanding upon our first visit (meet & greet) and slowly introduced her to 1, 2 and then more dogs. Fast forward to the present - at 13 months old, our dog is super socialized and playful. She loves to play cat & mouse. I love that they have a webcam during their business hours and separate the dogs into large and small dog rooms. We also had our dog board here for 3 days while we were out of town back in Nov 2020. They allow you to bring in your own blankets, dog bowls, toys etc to make your dog comfy while you're away. I personally asked Chelsea to take pics of our pup the first night she was there and Chelsea pulled through. I have noticed that when we first brought our pup in (Oct 2020), this location wasn't as packed, usually with 10 dogs or so during the day. It's definitely gotten a lot more popular so now it's 20+ at a time. They should consider expanding to include 2 trainers in each room at at time with so many dogs to watch over. During our dog's last daycare visit, I noticed she was being picked on for at least 20 minutes by another dog before the trainer stepped in! It was heartbreaking to watch. The trainer finally noticed and was about to bring the perpetrator into the kennel, when my dog leaped in the kennel the moment the trainer opened the latch. She knew that was her safe place away from the other dog! Then the trainer just let the other dog go to continue to play while my dog was hiding in the kennel. They really should consider expanding their staff if they are taking in more dogs. I still think Dogtopia deserves 5 stars because their prices are affordable, its super clean, love the webcam, app makes it easy to schedule daycare, boarding, or grooming services, and friendly staff. I've since moved to Los Angeles and would love to see more locations available down here! read more

Why I love Dogtopia of South Waterfront: 1. The team is professional and very patient with my timid girl. 2. Cleanliness. I knew I signed up for extra work when I got my fluffy white pup but the facility at Dogtopia is kept so clean that I have not had to adjust Isla's bath schedule even though she goes 12 times a month. One time Isla sat in an accident and they gave her a complimentary bath which I really appreciated. The staff at Dogtopia also keep notes/reminders on your pet. When Isla goes in for a bath, they know her preferences so you get consistent care every time. 3. They have frequent dress up/theme photos. It brightens up my work day when I receive her photos and I know it is supporting a great cause. 4. Web cams. First time dog mom here and I can be some what of a helicopter mom. Love that I can creep on her when I miss her. read more

We've been coming to Dogtopia for daycare and boarding for the past several months and have had a great experience! We did feel like the price is a bit steep before coming, but because of it's convenience, we decided to try it out anyways. The staff have been very helpful and friendly. They try to let you know about how your pup did during their stay. I love that they have webcam access so I can see how our pup is doing throughout the day. It's also nice that while she's at boarding, she also has plenty of active play time. One thing I wish they had was a way to easily keep track of your day passes. Overall a great experiences and we'll keep coming here while we're in the area. read more

Dogtopia is exceptionally better than other doggy daycare centers. They really value fun and safety and will actively train your doggo while they're at daycare! There are tons of events to keep things fun and exciting, lots of treat theme days, from peanut butter treats to bacon day. Dogtopia will take themed photos of your dog for various celebrations, and the proceeds will go to their Dogtopia foundation which sponsors a dog for a veteran/service member. My dog always comes home happy and tired from daycare. And she always smells wonderful, too. They wipe down each pup before being picked up. Overall, wonderful place and am so grateful my dog has grown up going there. read more

I have recommended Dogtopia in the past. However after recent issues I wouldn't recommend them again. I was called because my dog was not getting along with other dogs (which is something I've never experienced at dog parks or at dog events) the next time I took him in, I made a point to watch the webcam to see try to catch this behavior myself. What I saw was him being followed and mounted by a specific dog - I saw this happening over and over for a couple of hours. I called the front desk and let them know the situation and asked he be separated from that dog, an hour later he had still not been separated - it's no wonder he will snap at a dog if he is being followed and mounted constantly. There was another time when I watched the webcam and noticed him crated the majority of the day while other dogs are being swapped out as if he were the problem. Most recently, I tried bringing him in this week, I received a call 20 mins after dropping him off saying he went into the playroom and immediately picked a fight (again I have never seen this behavior at dog parks or with other dogs and we are around other dogs often, in fact people often comment on how sweet and well-mannered he is) they said they separated him but would try again and if that was unsuccessful they would call me again so I could pick him up. I never received a second call so I assumed all was well, however when I showed up to pick him up in the evening I was told that he was never put back in the playroom, he was kept by himself in a spare room and they don't know why I didn't receive another call. We are done going here. The fact is you take way too many dogs in than your attendants can handle, I have seen that they can't properly assess or manage issues. Keeping a dog crated or shoved in a spare room by themselves all day without letting their owner know is totally unacceptable. read more

We boarded our 10 month old pup at the South Waterfront location for 4.5 days, two weeks ago and it's been a hard recovery for her since we picked her up. When we arrived to pick her up we were informed she hadn't eaten for 4 days and we were never contacted about it. She developed other symptoms after we took her home and ended up taking her to the emergency vet 3 days later. She lost 5lbs that week and was diagnosed with kennel cough even though she is fully vaccinated. Her symptoms have persisted and we found out today that she is positive for Giardia. This has been a terrible first experience in trusting our pup in other people's hands and I highly advise anyone thinking to take their dogs here even for a day of daycare against it. read more

The staff here is phenomenal and I appreciate that they are trained to actually work with the dogs! SUPER clean environment (does NOT smell like a doggie daycare thanks to their air filtration system) and such a well-oiled machine. The app is wonderful (love it for booking reservations!) and so fun to be able to tune in and see what our dog is doing during the day. A safe and fun environment with lots of cool events. This place is always clean, attentive & welcoming. My dogs love it here & they never come back smelling horrid like urine which I really appreciate. They're always on hand to answer your calls on the phone or via text. What I'm not happy about is the fact that once your dog lapses in visits over a month span, they require you to do a behavioral test again which also includes a testing charge. I understand the mentality behind this policy but I don't get the frequency of this. I thought it was a common policy with any dog sitting service but it is not. Other dog sitting services only require a retest after a 1 year lapse of not using their services. That's a huge difference! Although I do love Dogtopia, this policy alone might prompt me to go elsewhere with more lenient policies on retesting behavior frequencies. read more

We came to dogtopia with a quarentined, awkward puppy and her high energy, timid rescue sister. Two months later our rescue dog is a social butterfly and our puppy is learning vital social skills. Our puppy had no idea how to interact with anyone outside of her sister. Going to dogtopia southwaterfront has enriched our dogs lives and  most of all moms get a better night's sleep anytime the girls goes to doggy daycare! The girls make friends and have so much fun with the coaches. Great customer service and our girls come back smelling beautiful everytime. The communication is amazing as well as the awesome webcams so we can still check on our babies! Our dogs get excited to go and don't even look back anymore! It's a shame because my puppy loves the coaches. But, they change their policy as they feel like it and it has been so inconvenient. If they would just be transparent about it and inform all of their staff on it, it would have avoided so much confusion. It literally said on their website (which they have now changed) that your dog needs at least one daycare session before they can come for boarding. When we tried to set it up they said he needs to come at least 3 times? When we took him for orientation I was told we get 3 free daycare days to use over a few weeks and when I took him for his 3rd they tried to push back and say "you brought him for boarding" yes we did and we paid in full there was no free days. Then the very person who told me that with a straight face told me she said it's 3 free days to be used in 1 week. I'm not about to go back and forth especially when it's my word against hers because it's not written anywhere. But God as my witness, she told me we can use it over a few weeks. I decided then to take my pup back home because I would rather take him somewhere I feel confident that we know and understand how things work. I actually don't care that it's free sessions for a week or 3 daycare sessions before they can allow boarding. But just bloody stick to what you say so that we can plan accordingly! It's just too long a drive in traffic for things to change every time we come. It's a nice place, my only suggestion would be to get things in writing, record the conversation, take screenshots so that if they try to double back, then at least you have a paper trail. read more

This has been my pup's daycare since she was 5 months old (she just turned 1). They have great events (fun treats, photo days, tasty bubble parties, pool parties, etc.).
