Major K9s Academy - My puppy being super confident in public thanks to Aiyana!

My goals were to refine her obedience, stop leash pulling, and build confidence. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Positives * My dog did gain a little more patience and became more confident around dogs at a distance. * These improvements are appreciated, but they do not justify the cost of a full board and train program. Concerns * Breed Bias: Aiyana often commented negatively about Dobermans, saying things like "This is why I wouldn't own a Doberman." For someone advertising all-breed training, this was unprofessional and discouraging. * Ear Care: Since my puppy is still posting her ears, I asked to take her home on weekends to do it myself. Aiyana declined until week 3, when I found her ear had been wrapped so tightly it cut into the skin. On another occasion, her ear was bleeding and the glue was completely dried out. When I gave feedback, instead of handling it professionally, she became defensive and refused to continue ear posting on any other dog as if she is doing a favor. * Training Regression: Instead of improving, my dog regressed. She used to know the difference between sit and down, but came back ignoring sit and defaulting to down. Leash pulling was not addressed -- I was simply told to "use a prong collar," even though she had walked nicely without one before. * Reliance on Ecollar: I have no issue with ecollars when used properly, but this training relied almost entirely on constant pressure. Without the collar, my dog would not listen at all to her. That is not effective or sustainable training. * Shocking Statement: At one point, Aiyana even told me, "I cannot do anything if a dog acts a certain way with someone else." Hearing that from someone calling herself a professional trainer was unacceptable. * Professionalism: She frequently reminded me that she had given me a discount, as if that excused the lack of progress. Sessions were delayed and if I arrived a little late due to her schedule changes she would blame me (we also have work and things to take care of and the road time, i am 40min away from her, i also never had the problem to go back to her anytime that worked), and I never received a proper recap or hand-off at the end as after i communicated about her ears she said she is uncomfortable working with us now . Final Thoughts While there were minor improvements in patience and confidence, the main goals of obedience and leash training were not achieved. My dog returned with ear injuries, regression in commands, and unreliable training that relied entirely on tools instead of teaching. I gave her time till even after the board and train being finished to wait for our recap session because maybe just maybe something would change . Which wasn't given because i gave my concern on my dog being hurt and her material not being taken care of . I wasn't blaming her -- just asking for more attentiveness. This program did not meet the level of professionalism, communication, or results I expected from a board and train. For anyone considering training services, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a trainer who provides consistent progress, safe handling, and clear communication.

Upon going in we were given a lot of information so we knew what to expect if we decided to hire them to train our dogs along with a brochure that included info and a phone number for Bear. Hubby and I went home and thought about how it would be an advantage to train our dog. The next morning we called Bear and had such an informative conversation and we knew this was the place to take our pup. They were able to get him in 2 days later for the day training (we chose to send him from 8a.m-5p.m). The first day we were scared of how our doberman would handle being with strangers. Anxiously we went inside and he was very stand off-ish and the girls where not even intimidated. They knew underneath the growls and stares was an awesome dog we as his family see daily. It was so incredible to see his demeanor change once we handed him over. All day hubby and I were waiting for them to call and say "your dog is impossible" yet it never came. We arrived right about 5p.m to get him and they said "you're dog is an Angel" my jaw dropped.... whoooo my dog? an Angel? I think this is a replacement dog then. Nope it really was my Dobbie. The following day we went back and he went face to face with the guy who would eventually get this 105lb Dobbie to be the most well behaved puppy. Jamie and him didn't hit it off by any means at first. Yet again Jamie showed no fear as he to knew Loki was just a big baby just like we and the girls saw! Fast forward 3 weeks after training and we as his parents see the change everywhere! Dog training isn't JUST FOR THE DOG! It is a family training. They teach the dog the tools to do the commands requested but it is ultimately up to YOU to implement them. My best advice for anyone looking to train their dog is ASK QUESTIONS! The team at ultimutt is sooooo passionate and knowledgeable. I love the fact that we are able to get continued education on saturdays incase Loki or US HUMANS forget how to work a command.

The only part he couldn't complete was staying alone for 3 minutes with the evaluator--which, from my understanding, can be waived since he's my service dog. Then she claimed he failed three portions, which was simply not true. I was so upset I asked her to redo the test. She ran through everything on camera again, and he did great. Then she brought out another dog and started clicking while bringing it over--something no trainer should do. My dog gave a subtle growl but stayed in place. She jumped on that, said he failed, refused to continue the evaluation, and tried to push me into training with her. What a crook. If you use her, I promise issues will come up eventually. I paid $75 for that evaluation, and my dog passed the test with flying colors. WHAT A CROOK! FKIN SCAMMER. I thought I replied to her comment, but I sent her a message directly, so I am sharing with you what I said to her. Please work to uphold the integrity of the business: She contradicted herself, calling my dog sweet while claiming "aggression" was the issue. He passed every requirement except the 3-minute stay, which she refused to complete. Yes, he whined, but the entire interaction felt off from the start. Thank you for the refund, but it was well deserved. The whole process was shady--you were clearly ready to fail him. Completely inappropriate.

I was in over my head at first. Not! anymore. After 3 weeks with Justin she has turned into a very responsive dog. Follows commands. Isn't aggressive towards dogs on the street anymore. It was so embarrassing to walk her during the day. I resorted to night walks.
