It was open at the time I was in the area and it did look inviting. I perused the menu and decided to give it a try. Walking in I saw the old-fashioned furnishings, metal chairs, display cases, wall shelves, big bar in the middle all in a long and narrow room. Yessss, this looks lie something out of the 50s and I like it. After a long hard look at the menu I opted for the Salami platter... Strangely enough there wasn't salami, but more like a smoked ham, prosciutto like meat. It tasted great, so what's in a name. Delicious heirloom tomatoes, capers, salami impersonator, cream cheese, capers, pickles and your choice of bread. I had chosen crumpets and regretted that . Not because they weren't delicious, because they were so yummy, but they were also so buttery that I couldn't get the cream cheese to stick and everything I tried to put on the crumpet just slid right off them. I got the bottomless cup of coffee and I must say, this is really good coffee and the refills kept coming also. I love the atmosphere in here and there are so many great choices on the menu. If I ever come back tot Auckland, I will definitely stop by this place again.

It's a popular place and they were crowded but we didn't have to wait for a table. There was plenty of food for each order. My wife had a street dog and fries and I had a Ruben. They were pretty decent. I wasn't as happy with the fries. They were like the bottom of a pile and mostly little pieces with very few full length slices. Prices were extremely reasonable. I would definitely eat there again.

We are on a roller coaster of hope and despair with each chippers we try. We had been told the chippers in Remuera was very good. Unfortunately there are 2 across the road from each other! We chose this one, and ordered chips, battered snapper and a hot dog. After 8 yrs in NZ I still forget a hot dog is not wrapped in a fresh bun with onions but is in fact just a battered sausage on a stick - disappointing every time. The chips were good, crispy with a good serving size. I was not a fan of the battered snapper. The batter felt too dense and greasy. The sausage was actually not too bad, with a lighter covering of batter. I don't think we will return here and so the quest continues. Maybe we will try the one across the road next!

They have had countless write ups and reviews and have rightfully earned their spot in the top tier of Auckland's best fish and chips. What a lot of people don't know is that the people that own it have a great recipe and they share the recipe and help train up new immigrants to start up their their own shops(and this is great!). I haven't had Upland in years but not because of lack of want or effort. Rather it's because everytime I go its closed no matter day or time. It's seems that since they've gotten so much notoriety they only open when they want to which is completely random. I finally got to indulge after so many failed attempts and it was pretty good, but not as mind blowing as I remembered. Overall I definitely recommend it over the other place across the road but there's only a 50/50 shot they'll actually be open!

We walked here from Sea Life Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium. Staff was friendly, and the Waitemata seafood & mixed summer platter was a popular splurging option for many tables during Christmas Day lunch. The platter was good but wish it had more variety of seafood (there were too many mussels...). It is a nice platter to share for families with children because it had fried chicken, calamari, battered fish and bratwurst. After lunch, you can stop at Movenpick downstairs for some ice cream.

The food is reasonably priced and the food is tasty. I'm not sure why the reviews are on the lower half, but I had reasonably priced food, friendly staff, and a good tasting meal. The different types of mussels on the mixed platter were tasty. On a promotional mussels day, the 1kg steamed mussels were a great price though I preferred the mixed platter more. The chicken brie burger was also tasty but nothing amazing. The eating area is on the second floor and if you get a window seat you can a view of the beach. On the inside it has a bar-like feel. The staff were friendly and were relatively attentive. Enjoyed the food and enjoyed the friendly staff. Enjoyed it!

Rather than writing them off completely (and especially with them being so close to home), we decided to give them a chance to get their ducks in line and try again. On a wet winter evening, we all piled into the restaurant for a family dinner. Red Earth have made a conscious effort to expose the heritage features of the building and it is definitely one of the classier establishments in town. Our table ordered a variety of different meals. The hapuka was highly rated in particular, as was the quesadilla. The pâté dish came with a generous serve of bread but the pâté itself could have benefited from deeper flavour, as could the sliders. The kids' menu was mildly disappointing, with only the standard options such as chicken nuggets or hot dogs. The wine menu is extensive and well-stocked with a broad section of great varietals; the wine bar side of the business is on point. Service was fantastic. Orders were promptly taken and the kid's meal arrived at the table very quickly - if you've ever dined out with children in the evening, you'll know that this is part of the recipe for happiness. They also offered to take the stroller and place it in their cellar until we were ready to depart, just a small move but very helpful. Overall, is it the best meal I've ever had? No. But the options for upmarket dining in Papakura township are relatively limited and Red Earth fills the gap. It was definitely a better experience than our first visit. I'd return in future and try some of the larger meal options as these seemed to have a better flavour profile, at least with those at our table.
