My boyfriend and I took in our cattle dog, Ollie, as a stray almost 4 months ago. Quick background: Ollie was found tied to a fire hydrant outside my work. Ollie is the sweetest boy, however is very reactive to other dogs and is a bundle of energy that presents as endless jumping and nipping. We have a senior Saint Bernard at home in which Ollie has been too rough/aggressive with her, even when our Saint Bernard makes it known that she doesn't want to be bothered. We tried water sprays at home and other attempts at training to no avail. We began to feel helpless as our biggest concern was his relationship with our Saint Bernard, as it got to the point where we felt we had to consider rehoming him. During our session with Brad, we immediately saw results which had us dumbfounded. Like other reviews have mentioned, his technique is not "mean," but is a firm mindset that Ollie requires. All the while, Brad emphasizes when to correct your dog and when to praise him, while stressing the fact that these techniques are not made to scare your dog, but rather establish a leader mentality while simultaneously letting the dog know that you provide love and safety. Of course, like any training, one can only be successful when carrying over these learned techniques at home, but Brad left us feeling confident and ready to continue the work. Even when we got home today, we already had seen a shift from Ollie. As for Brad himself - he is very approachable and really looks to understand both the dog and all the circumstances that come with them. You could really get a sense of how personal he is. When I asked why such a good dog would go to boot camp, Vladae responded with, "Same reason that the smartest kids go to university, to become all they can be and hone their skills." We had a 50-55 minute learning session on DOGs from their culture, through the do's & don'ts, then we brought Maximus in and slowly applied the training methods. Maximus is more calm & less "high-strung", listens better, responds to me better, seems happier than before K9 Mentor training. It is easy to book your stays through the app and everything has ran smoothly for my experience so far. They require all records prior to your first stay to make sure the dogs are up to date on vaccinations, etc. There are also a number of enrichments offered at an extra cost to entertain your pup, and on certain days of the week they have specialty enrichments. On my pup's last stay we ordered a pup cup and I did not expect to receive pictures in email of her enjoying it. That made my day. There are always cameras available to check in on your doggy to make you feel at ease. My pup is always excited and always playing during her stays and she is excited to go in when we arrive, she isn't even worried about me heading off and she's still happy when we come back for her. Then there is the additional perk of your pup being wiped out for a nice portion of the day when you return. Mind you we have not rescued many but enough to know they need special care and Camp Bow Wow has done such a beautiful job of loving our babies and helping them to feel safe, which gives us peace of mind. When brought our current dog home about six months ago, we gave her a bit of time and then introduced her to Camp Bow Wow. It has been such a help to help socialize her around dogs and people and now she gets so excited when we bring her in. She has learned to interact with other dogs and with people, play until her heart's content and take breaks when she needs to. She always comes home tiered in the best way.
