Took my sweet rescue, MJ, to The Dog Ranch Resort in Daphne for her 'temperament test.' Some man who was not very welcoming to me or MJ, just grabbed the leash, disappeared into the back like he was running a top-secret CIA operation, then returned two minutes later to inform me she had failed. Failed what, exactly? Standing there looking adorable? His reasoning was she didn't approach their 'test dog.' Now, I don't know about you, but I was raised to believe it's actually polite NOT to run up to strangers uninvited. Maybe MJ just has better manners than the average dog? Sorry she didn't charge in for a meet-and-greet like a politician at a county fair. Now, MJ is a rescue, and she is cautious, but she is also the most loving, sock-stealing, cuddle-demanding dog you'll ever meet. Fortunately, we took our business to The Palms Dog Resort, where they actually met MJ, treated her with kindness, and now she loves going there. My 2 year old Labrador retriever was recently in regular attendance at a different daycare facility in Birmingham and he was dearly loved and cared for by the staff there (Valleydale Clinic)!! I am here to express my total disappointment regarding the temperament test done by The Dog Ranch Resort in Daphne, administered to my Labrador Retriever, Jack, on Monday, May 20, 2024. The evaluation, conducted by a young male staff member, was concluded within a very brief period, approximately four minutes, and the results he stated that Jack was too nervous and would not do well with the other dogs at this facility!!! WHAT?? I couldn't help but laugh and say, "you're kidding right?!" This "assessment" process did NOT accurately reflect Jack's true temperament and social capabilities!! Nervousness during the initial moments in a new environment is a common reaction for many dogs, including Jack, my lab. However, given time to acclimate, Jack's behavior and comfort level significantly would have improved! He previously attended daycare at Valleydale Animal Clinic in Birmingham, where he was a beloved member of their community. The staff there often remarked on his friendly disposition, sociability, and overall exemplary behavior with other dogs. I even took the time to request a reference letter from them, attesting to Jack's positive experiences and interactions during his time there. They sent a letter to Dog Ranch and I received zero response!! Nothing, whatsoever! They blatantly ignored the reference letter and me, not even a phone call !! I wouldn't give this place a dime, much less trust them to take care of my dog for any length of time now! All I've seen are hundreds of pictures of dogs rough housing and very few of a staff member engaging with the dogs!! I hope this helps someone who is looking into this place! Had two older dogs. Our small dog did not pass temperament test which was not a surprise to us. As she aged she got mean and aggressive. I felt like they really cared about having dogs with good temperament play together. We adopted a golden doodle that we knew was going to be 100lbs. Ben took him and trained him. He is the best dog. Walks off leash. After training he does not jump on people and follows directions/commands very well. My 80 yo mother could walk him and he wouldn't pull her. Stays right by my hip running. I have a lab that spent a great deal of time with a professional trainer with many other dogs and never had a problem. We are new to the area and they spent 2 minutes with her and came out and said she did not pass their 'temperament test'. they could not tell me why. I would never trust them alone with my dog. This was my dogs (I have 2) first and last visit for grooming at the Dog Resort. The front desk was very polite and friendly. The groomer, not so much. One dog was groomed but the other looks like she just had a bath and nothing else. Very disappointed in the service. read more

Took my dogs there today for a temperament test. The guy took my dog back, didn't even give him 2 seconds to get to know him and came back 2 minutes later and failed him. I think they are just too busy to be patient with her he animals. My dog has been to the dog park and has no problems with other dogs. That's fine, just letting everyone know they are too busy to take time with animals. My business is better served somewhere else. read more

Took my rescue dog there today, We'd Feb 24, 2021. They spent 2 min with him and said he was not able to do dog day care because he has a temperament problem. I think they don't know animals because they really didn't spend any time with him and were "too busy" to do so. That's ok we took him to "Un-leashed" dog care and he did wonderful. Stayed half day and had a great time (no fights) with other dogs! So Dog Ranch, you should go back to dog behavior school or maybe just have some patience with animals because that's what your business is supposed to do. Lost my business because you are lazy! Excellent service. We entrust our dog to them with confidence. They have plenty of space and the dogs are able to run around almost all day. They bring them in for "quiet time" around noon. They also spend 1/1 time with each dog to stimulate them with sit/come/stay etc - which is a excellent. Highly recommend! read more

I recently moved to Daphne and when exploring the new area noticed this place so decided to check it out. I ended up discovering one of the best things ever. I work long hours during the week and drop my furry friend off here for "daycare". He obviously has a great time each day as he now gets excited when he sees me getting ready for work and as we pull up to the Dog Ranch. He also receives obedience lessons throughout the day and is making progress with his manners and ability to control his excitement (slowly but surely). Our one year old goldendoodle, Brooks, wags his tail out of pure excitement when he enters the door and is greeted by Ben and / or his friendly staff. He can't wait to go play with all of his friends and interact with the professional dog trainers. This top notch dog resort is very spacious, well equipped for all dog sizes, and exceptionally clean. As we have a busy schedule, we purchased the 365 day unlimited daycare and boarding package for our goldendoodle. It is a great deal! It gives our family a good feeling to know that our four legged family member is being well taken care of and where he is able to express his personality freely. We leave our one year old golden doodle at the Dog ranch regularly and she is so happy when I pull in the parking lot! She wags her tail and is eager to get inside to see everyone and play with her friends. You have the option for extra walks, training, special treats etc. The staff has given me tips on how to address some hyper puppy behaviors and I've been practicing them at home. They are very knowledgeable. And I love that they can bathe her before I pick her up if she stays for a couple nights. I highly recommend this little retreat for your dog! read more

Dog ranch resort has a very nice facility and all the tools needed to take care of your pet. Ashley was my dogs trainer and she's very knowledgeable and eager to work with animals. If you have a dog that is just in need of some obedience training this is the place for you, however if your dog is exhibiting any behavioral issues you might as well stay home. I have a 4 month old Australian Shepherd, husky mix and he's exhibited fear aggressive qualities when he's thrown into an environment he is uncomfortable with. I knew he was going to be difficult when I found out but I don't give up on things when the going gets tough. I'm very displeased with the resort because both my trainer and the owner essentially refused to take care of him and told me to get rid of him, just because he's a little scared at times and reacts in a way most dogs his age do not. I am ashamed that I ever took my dog to the resort in the first place, and I will not be spending anymore of my hard earned money on a facility that has given up on my dog before they even gave him the chance to work on it. I will also not be giving my dog away just because he is going to need a little bit more work than most dogs. read more

Weve been customers of The Dog Ranch for over 3 years up until today. Ever since the new administration at the front desk took over, the service has been awful. I made an appointment for grooming over a week ago, which at that time, I was confirmed to bring my dog in. I've ALWAYS been hesitant to use their groomer- they really aren't known for their grooming services but wanted to try them. They called last night at 6 pm to confirm the appointment and asked me to make sure vet records were faxed over. I questioned why they hadn't called the vet for them. It's after hours! I NEVER had to do that as the staff always did this for us. No biggie, right? I called the vet this morning, they informed me the Dog Ranch had already called and they received the documents yesterday. So I called the Dog Ranch as I was walking out of my house to verify they received them. Apparently they KNEW my dog wasn't eligible for grooming YESTERDAY but never told me last night when they confirmed his appointment. When I questioned them on this I was totally blown off and directed to Email the owner with my concerns. Ok, I get it! I'm 4 days past due on a vaccination. But they knew this yesterday morning! No call to let me know. Nothing! Ever since Carly left, the Dog Ranch service has been horrible. I will NEVER be back with our dogs. Common courtesy was avoided. This relationship is over. read more

Our dog loves to go to the Dog Ranch Resort whether it is for boarding or daycare. He gets so excited when we pull in the parking lot. The staff is very friendly and take great care of our pet. I love that he gets to play with other dogs instead of being put in a kennel most of the day like some boarding facilities. I would also recommend the training session at the Dog Ranch Resort. The training program really helped my kids learn how to handle our big German Shepherd. read more
