I've been to Venezuelan Chamo in Pasadena once before, but didn't get to do the review until now. I…read morearrived at Venezuelan Chamo for lunch today. They weren't super busy. Lucky me to be the first in line. What a beautiful restaurant with all the bright colorful decor! Cool atmosphere plus good lighting with several tables/chairs plus limited bar stool seating. There appears to be a hammock, too. Not sure if it can be used or it's just decor. One all gender restroom is discreetly in the back of the restaurant. Really great place!! The gentleman from the kitchen came out to greet me and asked what I would like. The lady behind the counter took over to take the remaining of my order. They both recommended me the Reyna Arepa filled with shredded chicken, avocado, mayonnaise, and lime juice. An arepa is a griddlecake made of ground maize dough. It looks like a pocket to me. Anyway, that's what I got. OMG, it was so delicious! Tons of shredded chicken at every bite. Very well balanced between chicken, avocado, and mayo. Arepa was crispy and delightfully. SO GOOD! Highly recommend it. I also got the Passion fruit juice was delightfully refreshing... not too sweet... just perfect! Super nice and friendly staff. Amazing service. Tasty foods and great portion of foods. Welcoming and warm ambiance. I'll definitely return to get more Renya Arepa and try other Venezuelan foods. Come on by and support them!

I haven't dined in but the interior is super cute and you can tell they put a lot of effort into tying the culture into the decor. The team seems a bit shy but are still always very kind!

This used to be my favorite spot for arepas, but after today's experience, I won't be coming back…read more I called ahead and clearly explained my order: three arepa orders, with one having the masa scooped out. I also specifically asked about the price and was told it would be $13 per order, consistent with what's listed online. However, when I arrived, I was told the orders would be charged separately, and the employee became visibly frustrated when I asked for clarification and requested that everything be grouped as discussed. What made the situation worse was the pricing. I was charged $15 per order, which didn't match what I was told over the phone, nor what's listed online or even on Yelp (where it shows around $10). When I politely questioned the discrepancy, the employee became argumentative and made the interaction uncomfortable. I paid, because that's not the issue--but being treated dismissively and feeling misled is. Pricing should be consistent and clearly communicated, and customers shouldn't feel like they're being taken advantage of for asking reasonable questions. Really disappointing experience from a place I used to enjoy.

Cafe Bolívar (est 2001) is a cute corner South American coffee shop on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica. They have good selection of coffee & tea drinks, selective pastries, salads, breakfast, and special arepas. This cafe has a calming atmosphere with background music that's not too loud, and the staff are skilled. I came on a sunny warm afternoon to grab a cold drink/light lunch. I had a Cold Brew and Chicken Arepas. I enjoyed their refreshing cold brew coffee drink but so much on the pollo arepas. Its chicken was dry; arepas outside was crispy and crunchy but the inside was not moist. Moreover, their size was bloody small. Cafe's interior was naturally bright and aesthetically decorated. Indoor/outdoor seats were comfortable. Prices of the drinks were fair, however, arepas seem expensive. Service was on point. Staff were cordial. Free wifi. Plenty of street parking. Overall, it's a nice coffee shop.

I've been here a few times since I tag along with my Columbian friend for brunch here. This place is not for vegetarians. So, keep on driving or skip reading this if you are. The empanadas here are delicious. My favorite type of empanadas. Made with a crunchy, fried corn dough filled with meat. Served with encurtido, it's a Columbian salsa type but little spice. What I had recently here is sanchocho. This soup reminds me of a caldo de res but with oxtail, plantain, yucca. It also has potato and corn. Very hearty and comforting. It's served with a side of white rice on the side and arepa. If you every come here for breakfast, you'll be fed like a champion. Try the bandeja paiso.. Take your gout pills first. It's a meat fest. Serving of fried pork belly (crispy chitarrones), grilled steak (churrasco). It's served with rice, beans, egg, plantains, arepas, Comes with heart healthy avocado and a tomato for good health. You might have a hard time standing up after this meal. The service here is always good. Well especially because my friend is a regular.

The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. My mom and I shared the chicken pesto sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the mozzarella paired so well with the tomato, and the grilled chicken with pesto tied everything together beautifully. The vibes were incredible and I love sitting outside, especially it was more of a chilly morning, and they made sure to turn on the heaters above the outdoor seating which was incredibly thoughtful so customers that we're all sitting and eating we're enjoying a nice breezy cool day along with warmth. What I really appreciated was that it wasn't overly oily or salty, which made it even more enjoyable. It was light, fresh, and super satisfying. My mom loved it just as much as I did!! And I really appreciate that very human, individualized touch when discovering a gem adored by Pasadena locals. The ambiance is giving... small, simplistic, unassuming shop. To people just passing by, it's not going to look like much - but it's the energy & aroma of their food that pulls AND keeps you in. I recommend the Pork-Pernil w/Mano Cheese AND the Chicken Avocado Arepas. You really can't stop with just one order of arepas. It's been awhile since my last visit, but I remember loving the guava lemonade - good size & incredibly refreshing! Can't wait to explore more of the menu the next time I'm around.
