I have been so impressed with Dog Dandy! My nervous little yorkie-puppy not only comes out all spiffed up, but I come home a little smarter too. Melinda takes the time and care to customize her approach to each dog. For my dog's first time, he was extra nervous around the clippers, so she adjusted and hand-cut his hair so he wouldn't freak out! This is now my second appointment and he not only let her use clippers but he actually seemed to LIKE being there! It's also clear that Melinda genuinely loves dogs and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to training, proper diet, and -- of course -- grooming. She takes the extra time to talk through any concerns we have and goes the extra mile to provide an email follow-up with detailed explanations and handy links to anything we discuss. What an amazing and easy experience from start to finish for my fur baby French Bulldog! Melinda was amazing as is her business ( warm, inviting, professional set up)! I was tired of unskilled big named pet stores who insisted I have a pug. Also done with the posh pet resort where we board and groom our fur baby at who this past summer knew my fur baby was puking bile the last few days of his 10 day stay and less then 24 hrs after picking him up from his 10 day board, we almost lost him as he had pneumonia. Melinda showed me what tools to buy for my fur baby, suggested diet tips to rid of yeast and has since shared probiotic products specifically for my baby. Highly recommended! Our fist experience with Melinda was her grooming our Havenes mix. She was gentle and caring, I noticed my dog wanted to stay and play with the other dogs even though she wasn't very socialized . We lost our Lulu to cancer. Now I have been bringing our 2 Maltipoos for full groomings every month. She was our first puppy groomer and has been doing so for around 2 years. With other groomers I've tried for Lulu seemed to always coming home with razor burns and or nicks around her eyes. No worries :) read more

Melinda is honestly the best groomer I've ever had. She's very knowledgeable on things besides grooming like the proper nutritional needs of our pups. I've never had anyone have a deep conversation with me about the importance of pups having a raw diet! As far as in the grooming part. She did amazing! My dog, Yuko, is about 8 months old and is not very fond of the groomers, mainly because he has so much energy. But Melinda took her time to make sure Yuko felt like he was in a safe environment. I am very bad at describing how I want my dog's hair styled with my words being "as short as you can without him looking weird." Haha She understood what I meant and where are the results of Yuko with a "sporty" look. She cut it exactly in the right areas without making him look bald, despite my instructions to go as short as she can. read more

I waited to write this review until my pup went to another salon to see how he reacted to the grooming session elsewhere. Please beware if your pup is going there for the first time. The groomer here does not seem to have experience with pups getting groomed for the first time and does not take time to get the pups comfortable or see if they are ok with the use of clippers. My pup got a bad hair cut and no bath at all, yet was charged the complete $75 fee plus the initial $15 fees to secure the appointment. I was told my pup is a biter and aggressive (who had never showed that behavior at home prior to the grooming session) I took my pup to petsmart grooming and he had no issues there. read more

Melinda was so friendly. She greeted us with her wonderful smile. She sure knew about how to make a puppy comfortable on her high table. My little puppy Milo was calm while Melinda was brushing her fur. She was gentle and sweet with my pup. Milo's fur was so matted and so I told Melinda that I needed her fur to be manageable. Melinda is terrific! She is very much in communication with you before and after service. Our pup, Frankie is usually traumatized when I take him for grooming but he was fine at Dog Dandy. Melinda is very caring. Although grooming at Dog Dandy is slightly pricey...I guess you get what you pay for. Melinda also said that she would do his nails for free, so I am looking forward to that. We adopted Kota about a year and a half ago. He has a gorgeous, soft coat of very thick, wavy hair. We try to stay consistent with his grooming to keep him comfortable and mat-free, so we had taken him fairly regularly to a medium-sized chain groomer near us. He HATED going. He would be terrified when we dropped him off and it was absolutely heartwrenching. When we got back to pick him up, he would be so excited to see us (sometimes even peeing on the floor) and pull with all his strength to the door. I was always researching new groomers, including the mobile vans and the groomers that come to your house. (Do you know how much those COST?!) We ended up almost always going to the same one because we thought a switch might stress him out even more! Anyway, as soon as I learned about Dog Dandy, I was intrigued. First, Melinda, the owner and groomer, is also a professional trainer. She is a certified ABCDT, meaning she knows her shit (no pun intended) when it comes to dog behavior. This gave me SO much peace of mind because she would be able to tell when Kota was anxious, comfortable, scared, etc. and act accordingly. Second, she has a small (but mighty) operation. You aren't dropping your pups off in a loud, chaotic environment. Her shop is adorable, calming, and inviting. The dogs get her full attention! They even get a goody bag with a REPORT CARD (I know - cutest thing EVER) at the end of their visit. What's amazing is considering the personalized care they get, she is very reasonably priced - in fact, the same rate as that chain groomer we used to go to! We dropped off Kota and our newest (and much more confident) fur baby, Artie. Artie got the dreaded "shelter cut" (completely shaved at the skin) before we adopted him, so now that his curly hair was finally growing back, we thought a clean-up for him would be nice. Melinda did an awesome job on both of their cuts! Nothing fancy, but they looked clean, trimmed, and handsome! Kota was glad to see us, but was so comfortable in her studio! No pulling toward the door. No whining when he saw us. NO STRESS. It was truly amazing and such a relief! My dogs are simply never going anywhere else to get groomed. Melinda is all of our dogs ( we have 3 big dogs - lab, golden and a doodle) favorite human outside of our household.  This says a lot because like most dogs, ours don't particularly like to be groomed. Melinda speaks to them literally and handles them with the greatest care so that they feel calm and comfortable and loved.  She's a gifted groomer.  All 3 of our dogs always looks adorable after their grooming sessions and we can't stop snuggling with them. She is an all around really nice person and just the best groomer!!! I have never made a Yelp review until now. I just signed up to specifically write this review of my initial interaction with Melinda Minjares and Dog Dandy. I emailed her that I needed a buzz cut for my long haired chihuahua and that her last hair cut was in August 2019. Here is the reply I received: "Hi. Why the long wait between grooms? Buzz cut after almost a year? No thank you. Your dog deserves better." For the record, my dog is well-loved, gets regular baths at home and her hair is not that long. She is perfect with a buzz cut twice a year. Her regular groomer has been closed due to the COVID19 shelter-in-place and the next available appointments are not available until late July; so I thought I would try Dog Dandy. I can't express the shock and disappointment that I felt upon receiving Melinda's email. She is right: my dog does deserve someone better than her. For those looking for a dog groomer, I suggest you come up with a legitimate reason as to why your dog needs a haircut from this place and make sure your dog's last haircut does not exceed one year. read more

I am here in San Jose for a temporary time. I was looking for a groomer for my 14 year young Pomeranian. I went online and decided to call Melinda, at Dog Dandy Grooming. My dog Maddie was in need of a nail trim and I was excited to find a location so close to home. Even better, it was a great experience. Melinda could immediately tell I was nervous for Maddie. She hates getting her nails cut and I hate having to bring her to get them cut. But Melinda took her time to put us both at ease and assured me that her priority was for Maddie to have an enjoyable experience. Dog Dandy is the best! Mel takes her time, I mean she does pamper your pet. She spend 3 hours pampering our golden doodle and the end results were amazing! Our dog has a very thick inner coat, and dander was an issue. Mel have him a very thorough brushing, trimmed his coat, so that he still looked handsome, and gave him the 'full spa treatment'! Our pet came out looking sleek and shiny, with his tail up, and very relaxed!
