Maybe you have good insurance that will cover the whiplash you'll surely get if you're lucky enough to experience both his sides. My first phone call with Ted couldn't have gone better. He was friendly, easy to talk to, clearly communicated the important details about doing business with him, and his voice was full of joy when talking about his experiences with dogs at his place. I ended the conversation sure that I had found the absolute best place for my dog to stay while traveling. My second phone call a few days later was exactly the opposite. I called to ask three simple questions, questions that all the other kennels I've called answered with no problem. (For those curious, the questions were about how to modify my reservation on the antiquated reservation system and two follow up questions from our previous conversation about what to bring with my dog.) I've never experienced such unprofessional behavior. Interrupting, talking over me, insisting I was saying things that I was not, threatening to cancel my reservation if I didn't stop "being a problem". Needless to say I will never be boarding my dog here. Ted, do you have an evil twin that is trying to ruin your business?

So, I did his one month board and train starting the new year in January and picked my boy up in February. Not only did my dog still have not the slightest clue on how to walk on a leash, he also had NO basic obedience skills training. When I got my dog home, we discovered his groin area covered in scabs. After a couple days of warm baths and hydrogen peroxide over the area, his scabs came off revealing puncture wounds. He was bitten by something where he was being kept. Ted had said my dog would be kept comfortable in his home. Since my dog's feet were stained yellow and he had some type of bite, he was apparently put somewhere and kept where he was totally neglected. I had a number of friends and family planning on taking their dogs to Ted for training but waiting to see how my little guy did first before they made that kind of investment. Not only have they changed their minds, but they are also letting everyone they know of my experience. Absolute scam! My dog was abused and I will be reporting my experience to everyone I come across and filing formal complaints. I'm an honorably discharged combat veteran and have worked very hard only to have my money stolen and my dog harmed. This minor yelp review is only the beginning. Hopefully, it will save someone else money, time and heartache. I have a sinking feeling I am not the only person who has been harmed by this so called trainer. Hopefully, I will be the last.

They have a fantastic program set up for residents and visitors to the Aspen area where you can go and take the dogs for a walk, or a hike or spend the day with them at the park or your favorite coffee shop. Each dog is equipped with a coat that lets everyone know that he's "ADOPTABLE". That's what brought us in to just "look at" the dogs... The cages for the animals are large and clean, there is a HUGE area in the back with giant boulders that the big dogs can run up on and overlook the Aspen airport as well as the whole valley. The area where you can meet your prospective adoptee is also huge with park benches, a tree, balls and doggie treat so you can really hang out with and check out how your dog is going to behave. To help with funding they also offer grooming and boarding on premises. I think this place should be the model for all other shelters everywhere.. Just an amazing process and facilities. We couldn't be happier with our mixed breed lab pup.

The shelter is completely kill-free, so animals come from all over the states to be sheltered here. Adopting is easy, and the pet comes neutered/spayed and with all its shots. You can go and help socialize pets, or take them out for the day, a simple walk, a hike, or even take one home for the night! All of these animals are great souls who just want someone to love and be loved by. The facilities are wonderful and have been completely revamped from what they used to be. Located right across from the airport, it is easy to get to, so stop by and say hello! Maybe you'll walk away with a new family member!

It was just blindness on my part - thinking Only CB. But Gunnison is an easy commute from Almont (where we were staying) and close enough to Crested Butte. IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG, THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU…read more My Name is Brett and I am a certified Dog Trainer with Animal Behavioral College. My business is called "Colorado Native: Dog Training." You can contact me at ColoradoBuddah@gmail.com From my personal experience, Double J Cross Boarding/ Husky Breeding is not a place that you should take your pet. They abuse animals. One of my dogs needed boarding for 2 weeks. My method of training that I teach and apply to my clients and dogs is strictly positive reinforcement. This means no negative reinforcement whatsoever (no hitting, nor fear related scare tactics). I understand that my dog barks uncontrollably in all sorts of tones.. he's one of those that thinks he's human.. however, he has never flinched from any human reach or touch. In fact his demeanor is quite the opposite. I have evidence of my training in action and implementation. I also have the personality of my pets acutely recorded and data entries for progress in training techniques for their entire lives. Now he flinches severely. When picking up my dogs I went straight to their kennels, which I found out after the fact that the front of the store is where everything goes down. And no signs of abuse, yet. However, when I dropped off the dogs I was never shown the front of the store. The employee on duty must have been new, else not very fond of their employer's protocol. She claimed ex-law enforcement status, but after these incidents she's probably embellishing being a prison guard. Had I known about this before hand with their lack of work ethic, I would not have left my dogs there. However, all this was discovered after the fact. In chronological order the following also took place with a witness who recorded the end: i was informed that it was cash or check and that there was a note on the wall. If I had been shown the front and there be a note actually in a visible place, perhaps the cuss words that ensued could have been avoided.. but alas, it didn't go that way. After being informed cash or check I called a family member who began their travels to me. There was a slight disgruntlement when the previously mentioned employee called me a liar that she had told me that it was only cash or check. I gave an empty threat that I would write a bad review (all recorded) and then literally 3 minutes later 2 policemen from Salida, CO showed up who were to busy to do their jobs and said this was a civil matter and then left after discovering that the Double J Cross was just trying to save there butts online because I threatened to write a bad review for causing us to be late to pick up my fiancé's grandma at her house when she gets dropped off from the senior center. Fortunately a friend was willing to help with the grandmother as we waited for the check to arrive. The police informed me that the boarding place was claiming that I threatened their safety and not willing to pay what was owed. This is simply just not the case, money isn't as issue for me and I'm a practicing Buddhist for most of my life. However, it's not reassuring of the town if they don't have enough policemen to respond and do what our taxes pay them to do, but that's just me. When I finally get my dogs by waiting at the end of the drive way. The police said if they had to be called back they would arrest someone. I really wanted to make this a thing bc I was getting heated at being treated poorly, but i needed to reflect first on whether I was at fault before doing anything as acting/ reacting in anger is usually self-destructive. Once I got my dogs in the truck I let by-gones be by-gones and started my trek to the fiancé's house. I've tested many times to make sure, in-transit and upon arrival (for better testing), before I got to my destination and after, my dog flinched if I raised my hand to pet him and he still finches. My fiancé also heard a dog yelp after the whole incident with the ex-policewoman. This place needs to be shut down. Email me for further questions, comments, or concerns. I'm also contacting animal abuse authorities. There is a lady who claims ex-cop status, even tho I'm sure she was just a prison guard.. she seems to have some sway down there, but she is the one who started cussing and probably the one who hit my dogs. There was also an elderly man who had loads of guilt on his face when he gave me the dog toys from his pen.. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that they both have abusive pasts and both hit my dog. This place is just god awful.
