Just returned from taking Cabo for a basic bath today & had to write a glowing review. He is, perhaps, the only golden retriever that hates the water. Can't swim even if his life depends on it. So, you can imagine how he feels about baths. When I do it myself, I have to trick him. Otherwise, he runs to his kennel & won't come out. This is the third visit. He happily goes with the groomer & when I return, he looks so handsome. Coat feels silky smooth. Shredding hair removed. Ears cleaned. They do an outstanding job. Highly recommend. read more

This place is the best. Not only is the store cute and you have the ability to see your dog getting groomed which is for some reason very gratifying as a dog parent. But, the staff also care about your dogs and give them the love and attention you do. My dog is ALWAYS happy to come to D&H and he is always stunningly shinny when I pick him up. I've taken my dog here several times and I wanted to like the place... the girls seem nice but every time I pick my dog up they say things like "he's too wiggly", so I run him before I take him in and I've asked them to give him a potty break. They don't give him a potty break. This last time the poor guy peed while in the kennel so they had to bathe him again. Upon pickup they make a huge deal about it too acting as though we should be ashamed that our poor guy peed in the kennel. It's disappointing, I wanted to like the place but I'd rather wash and groom my dog at home then bring him here again. read more

Very rude (and unstable) groomer. Always looking to increase fee due to "matting" even after we have thoroughly de-matted our dog immediately before bringing him to the groomer. Don't show up even ten minutes early because the groomer won't accept your dog. She could not be less helpful!! I've never had such poor service in the 40 years I've worked with dog groomers. It's a shame because the owner is quite nice. Apparently the unstable groomer calls the shots. read more

I was so impressed with Dog and Hydrant before they even opened. I was walking by the shop on my way to Olivers and saw two awesome ladies with skill saws and hammers remodeling the shop, I stepped in and inquired and the owners were so kind and inspiring. I knew right then this would be the place for my sweet rescue dog to get pampered. Ive been coming to Dog and Hydrant since they opened and each experience has been wonderful awesome and amazing. Easy to make online appointments, tons of options to choose from, AFFORDABLE and best of all the employees that work are so sweet kind and I completely trust that my dog will have a safe experience. If you see what is really happening they "kick you out" so you don't share. We wouldn't ever return anyway. Warning.....too rough with dogs and hope the owner will change the practices or train the staff better The owner Ali, does not have the temperament to operate a business and routinely mistreat dogs based on what I saw and what others said to me too. The dogs look good when finished I will say as a positive, but what goes on there in between is scary. They won't let you watch the grooming but I saw it. They are way to rough and heavy handed with your dogs and use a wire brush. We aren't the only ones who have said this including animal control. They forcibly rake the hair out of dogs to crank out as many as possible and lie about it. I would recommend the owner learn to control her rage and tears. The poor owner was crying of embarrassment. It was pretty pathetic. read more

We have known Hannah and her work for years and have followed her here. She has built herself a great reputation and her love for what she does and the animals shows. We have two dogs that love going and almost act like they are going on a mini-vacation and when it's time for pick-up, they act like they would prefer to stay with her, what the heck lol. They have worked hard for this dream and it shows. They have poured their heart into the business and it shows. Pride of ownership at its best right here. Just a few more things to complete till 100% but they are open for business and booking online is really convenient for the busy family. We will continue to make the trek to her shop and enjoy the great downtown atmosphere of Windsor which is basically across the street. Took my dog there for the first time yesterday, and it was also my dog's first time at the groomer. My dog is 2 years old and kind of neurotic so I had been putting it off. Previously we'd have her nails clipped at the vet's office, but it was time for a legit grooming for our (German Shepherd/Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix) dog, Smokey Bear. We were greeted and taken care of in the kindest, most friendliest way, and the ladies put me at ease about me leaving them with my quirky dog. I asked for a "summer trim" and I said I was open to ideas and recommendations, which they then gave me and I went with their ideas. I was so happy and comfortable when I left my dog in their care. So it turns out they couldn't do the cut because my dog was just too scared (I expected this and they phoned me to let me know and gave me alternate options at that point), and they were able to to clip her nails and give her a bath. Super props to them!! The D&H team also gave me great ideas how to help my dog for her next visits, including just popping in with my dog and letting them give my dog a treat. OHMGOSH I love them! D&H also has shampoo options from unscented, to mildly scented, to scented - which is awesome for someone like me who is sensitive to scents. I did go with the lightly scented and it smells light and fresh and very natural. When I picked up my dog she was happy and showed no signs of stress, and to top it off she looked yummy cute and was super soft with her trim and bath. It was an outstanding experience going to Dog & Hydrant. I love the ladies of D&H, the location is great (next to Oliver's Market with a little dog park between them). Shop is super cute, too - very Portland cool like, and big windows for the dogs to look out onto the dog park. I'm going to be a customer forever. No lie, I wish they did people hair, too. UPDATE: Took my dog, Smokey Bear, for her second time today. So I'm really jealous she gets to go here and I don't. Why don't they open a people salon???!!! Okay, don't freak out but I'm using my human's computer because I loooooove getting groomed here! I've been three times, twice with Hannah and today I had Caitlin. They smell different, but are equally skilled. By the end of my session, which took about 3 hours (cuz they don't rush it. I do soooo hate to be rushed. Unless running to get my favorite purple ring toy, which my human HATES....always throwing it as far away from herself as she can. I'm not sure if it's the color or the shape that pisses her off so? And then she laughs like a lunatic and smiles after I go get it, realizes it's near her, freaks out again and chucks it away?! She probably needs to go see a humanerinarian...But I digress.) By the end of my session, I usually feel pretty great, and also sort of...what's the word...prancy! I mean, I'm a fluffy sort of pup already and my owner is nuts (clearly, see: toy phobia), so she always asks for what she calls "bellbottoms". I'll never admit it to her, but I love 'em! The D&H team do an excellent job cutting my head just so, leaving my eyelashes long (essential for my signature "long-ass-side-glance/treat-request"), trim everything else up nice and short and then taper my legs to a silly level of fluffiness (see photo!) Obviously they take care of my bits'n'pieces. I won't go into that...especially that part where they extract that $@*% in my butt?! Holy hell! If I were god, A) I'd have edited that out of the design B) limitless bacon and C) any orphan pets would come live with me till they found their human, or their human found them... Yeah, other than that backend issue, we really are the most elegantly designed genre of animals... Man, I digress a lot!! To top it all off they clip and file my claws...smooth and short, but still with enough grip that I don't go sliding around... One drawback, it's a bit pricey. My cut today was $70.00 and then my human does this thing called a "tip"... But she never falls over, so it can't be that bad. And hey, it's not my money! LOL!! So those are my thoughts! Hope it's helpful in guiding your humans! Not gonna lie, logging in while the boss is a sleep takes stealth and it's pretty hard to type with paws. AW YEAH! There's a new dog in town (: Love love this place. It also helps that I work right in the level above them, so convenience is pretty damn awesome. Allison & Hannah are so friendly, and you can just see their love of dogs in their actions and words towards all the dogs that come in. I decided to prep Simba (he is a 16lb Pekingese-mixed) for grooming by constantly bringing him in the shop when he came to work with me. They'd always give him treats and pets and love, so Simba learned to associate the shop with treats. I brought him in on the day of his grooming, and Hannah did such an amazing job! Apparently, she (and the other groomer) reported only good things about Simba during his bath and haircut!! Allison (she works the front) answers all of your questions to the best she can, and she's super nice!! Dog & Hydrant also doubles as a boutique shop- so you can buy treats, food and accessories. Simba's fur was cut to the right length, his tail and ears had the right fluff. His fur was (and still is!) so sooooooft. What's also cool is that you can choose what kind of shampoo you want for your dog (they have two scented and one non-scented, the last time I was there). Bring your furry ones here! They treat dogs as all dogs should be treated: with so much love and care. Can't wait to bring Simba here again! read more

We have taken both our dogs here, they always leave happy and are very clean! The best part in my opinion is that the Dog & Hydrant are more technoligically advanced than most Dr.'s offices. You receive text messages, caledar invitations, and follow up when your dog is done, as well as after...... hence why I am writing this as we speak. This place is wonderful. I've taken my Golden Retriever here twice to get her nails done. They are so nice and so good with all of the animals that come in. Today was especially impressive, as 15 minutes before I was leaving home my dog jumped into the koi pond and then rolled in the dirt I did mt best to hose her down and towel dry her, but they still received a damp and dirty dog. Not only did they make that completely ok, they offered to take care of her while I did my grocery shopping next door. When I came and got her after shopping, she was clean and happy, and her nails are great!...That's above and beyond in 5 ways!!! I really love this place. read more

We have always had short haired large dogs - throw them in the tub and be done with it. Well, enter our new "littles". They are Shih Tzus and they are the first dogs we have had that will need to go to the beauty parlor (!) on a regular basis. So...where to take them?
