I have a hard to groom dog. He's an Alaskan Malamute mix, and his coat is thick and mats very easily if he isn't properly brushed out when he's molting. We have had him groomed at various places around the county and I'm always on the hunt for a place that knows how to groom his breed (and treat his coat right) and is also budget friendly. Plaza was recommended to me in a moms group and I was able to get an appt the same week I called (important to me since my schedule is never the same every week so scheduling a month in advance is hard to do) I was slightly wary when I arrived as the building is older and it's kind of a small location. The staff was very friendly and asked me exactly what i expected to be done. 5 hours later he was finally finished. And I say 5 hours in a good way - they were meticulous! This was probably the best groom he has gotten in Sonoma County in his 8 years of life. They actually completely brushed him out instead of just cutting out the thicker parts of fur or cutting it short. He was perfectly white, fluffy, and shaped. And completely dry. Most groomers rush and I usually end up picking him up partially wet still, and usually his fluffy tail is neglected. They didn't miss anything and he looks the best he has looked in years. I was shocked at the low price they charged me for the amount of work they did - I will be a customer for life! read more

This is the best price for a quality dog groomer in Santa Rosa. My family started bringing our border-collie/golden retriever mix (we think) here years ago when we realized how much lower their prices were than where we'd been going. They do a great job, and our Dudley was always so excited to see them. My small dog Malla is part Yorkshire Terrier, and she can be quite feisty. She despises being groomed, but the ladies at plaza grooming are so patient with her and sweet. I've been taking Malla here since she was a puppy, and today she was actually EXCITED to see her "hair stylist!" Her quicks have never been cut during a nail trim here, and she always looks great when I pick her up. I am so glad I found this place!! Great price--only $45 for my maltipoo, Athena, for a full wash/groom, and they also include cleaning her ears and teeth, and cutting her nails. They are very flexible on pick-up times (I have to pick up after 5pm because of work, and they are fine with that). Also, every person I've met who works there is very friendly. They always take Athena to the bathroom and give her treats, and always make sure they know exactly how I want them to cut her hair. I will continue going back here! read more

I wish I had a better review to post here, but I would be lying if I said I was happy, or even just feeling neutral. I made an appointment a few weeks ago to bring my cat Tippy to Plaza Grooming at 10AM today (August 15th) to be shaved. I have never been to this place, but I saw it had better reviews than most places, so I figured why not? I dropped Tippy off at 10AM, and the first thing I thought was odd was that the girl said Tippy would be ready around 3 or 4PM and that I would get a phone call. Grooming never takes more than about 3 hours, for one, and two, if it was going to take that long in the first place, why did I even make an appointment? But I decided, against my better judgment, to not question it. I mentioned to the girl that Tippy is deaf and gets really anxious at times, especially when you brush or shave her tummy, and to call if there were any problems, and she said it wouldn't be an issue. I had also asked them to leave Tippy's tail the way it is, since she doesn't have an actual tail, it's a puff-ball of fur essentially. The girl wrote it down and said no problem. Cool. I did some errands and stuff, and by the time I was done with the last errand, it was about 410PM and I hadn't received a call. So I drove over and sat in my car, thinking it would only be a couple minutes before I got the call. 430PM rolled around and no call, so I decided to go in. The girl I left Tippy with in the morning was only just shaving Tippy then, and asked me to give her 20 minutes or so, and when I peeked around the wall, she had just begun shaving Tippy. I was annoyed, but I said okay and I went home to wait, since it wasn't very far. I sat around waiting for the call for almost an hour, and finally at 530PM I called them, to find that Tippy was done. So where was my phone call? I got there, and there was another woman who brought Tippy back for me. I explained to her that I was unhappy that it took 7+ hours to groom my cat when I made a morning appointment, that when I came in a half hour past the later time I was told it would be longer, and that I never got a phone call. She explained that one of the groomers called out and that they were overbooked. Now I can understand being shorthanded, but I wasn't thrilled that they overbooked and decided to let my cat sit around all day. I would have rather been told to bring her in a little later when they had caught up a bit. The woman initially offered me a free grooming, which I declined because I'm moving out of the country in three days, and she later gave me back half of my money, which I really appreciate. However, when I went to check Tippy over, she wouldn't come near the crate door until we were back home where she knew her surroundings. I also discovered that they shaved her tail off, and that honestly was the last straw. I only asked for one thing to be done, and even though it was written down to leave it, they still shaved it off. There is a stub of fur where her puff-ball used to be. I actually cried when I found that. I won't be back for two reasons, moving being one of them. The only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one is because the second woman did give me half of my money back, apologized profusely, offered me a free grooming, and overall the grooming looks decent, aside from the tail. I really don't know if I can recommend this place, though. [edit] I am quite disappointed that Yelp decided to filter my review, considering that I had a legitimately awful experience with this grooming shop (and because of it, 7 months later, I have yet to take my cat to another groomer out of fear of this happening again). read more

I take my two basset hounds here to get their nails clipped. They do a fantastic job! I've never had to make an appointment or wait more than a few minutes for nails. They remember my dogs by name and what they need done. They clip the bulk of the nail then use an electric filer to smooth the edges and get them a little shorter. One of the dogs gets skittish around the clippers but the ladies here are so sweet and patient with him. Can't say enough great thing about them! In and out in 15 minutes and for $10: I'm happy! I was speechless when I saw my pug! Since I've moved to this area I have not found any luck with the groomers in town. I've had to make time to visit my groomer back home when I went to visit family.
