They quoted to replace the oil pan gasket on my truck for 500$ which was a good price. They figured out they quoted the job to low with all the parts that had to be removed to do the job. He told me that it wasn't leaking oil. When I got to the shop there was an oil spot under it. read more

say this reluctantly but: very horrible service recently. I brought in my car in to get assessed for a broken handle, they took the door apart w/o even asking my permission to 'assess' it. and if I didn't go with them then its $240+ to reassemble said door. blunder #1. also they originally had quoted $260 and it jumped to $460 on top of which. congradz you already lost yourselves a loyal customer. the professional thing here to do in this situation is ASK the customer to proceed. this misquote is bc one of their mechanics doesn't know what the hell they're even doing. pricing quotes fluctuates at any given moment. thanks for curing me of ever having considered using you guys in the past. hard lessons learned. if you're reading this try Sturdivant's auto in Chapel Hill instead. they're professional + will try to actually save you time + $$. don't use these guys if you have anything slightly serious unless you've got lots of money to burn. read more

Locally owned and operated, I've been to this place twice for oil changes. I recently went for a state inspection, oil change, and tire rotation and dropped my car off since they were busy. They called me with updates and anything they were concerned about. The prices were standard, and I've appreciated how prompt they communicated with me and didn't upsell me on things I didn't need or excuses. Only complaint is their small parking lot, but you can park across the street or adjacent street. read more

I received a recall notice for defective airbag and after the visit to the local dealership to have the correction was given a shocking evaluation on condition of rear brakes and an estimate of $600 to replace. Metal on metal, rotors, that kind of language used. There were other suggested service elements too and I just said since the cost was substantial I wanted to consider options. I have over 115000 miles on my car...Dodson had been the dream team for me with an earlier situation the dealership diagnosed a few years ago ...also with a really big expense estimate...and they've been monitoring an oil usage phenomenon with me and so of course I took the car to them for the brake check...they gave me a quote and I scheduled the appointment for brake replacement and oh my gosh....their diagnosis was quite different from the dealership and they called to explain they would go ahead and do the scheduled work but I did not have an immediate need at all and most importantly my car was safe. I've had 71 birthdays and am the quintessential safety girl with my car. I hit something in heavy rain and low visibility on my way home (a two-hour trip) and my tire indicator light came on. I found Dodson's on Yelp. We have been going to Dodson's since we moved to Mebane in 2009. They are fabulous. They always service our cars in a timely manner and are extremely honest and fair. My husband was having issues with the vents in our 10 year old car today. He swung by Dodson's to have them look at it and they showed him how to jiggle a wire underneath the dash to get the vents working again. This is the second time that they have done a simple repair and not charged us for it, but instead showed my husband how to quickly fix it. We take both of our cars there for all of our routine maintenance issues and repairs. I highly recommend them! read more

I'm an amateur mechanic myself, and I took a problem I couldn't fix to these guys just to try them out since I'm new to the area. They did a great job. I've since been back for several issues and never been disappointed. I even had one issue that neither I nor they could fully diagnose, but they gave me an accurate assessment of what they knew verses what they suspected but were not able to fully verify. They did not charge me for the significant time they spent trying (although I think they should have) and gave me some recommendations that were obviously intended to be helpful to me even though they wouldn't make any money from it. On the minus side, the shop is small and feels dirty, and the parking is a little awkward. I like dogs, but some don't, so it might be a negative that there is pet hair on their couch from "Chief", the owner's dog... but there are other places to sit in the waiting area. Overall, I'd say that the fact that they are both honest and competent, outweighs any of the negatives. I'm generally distrustful of mechanics until I have reason not to be... with good reason. But, I'd have no reservations about sending my wife (who will tell you she knows nothing about cars) to them and trusting they will treat here right. That may sound like an odd thing to say, but I've known several shops that, although they would treat me well, would take advantage of my wife when they perceived she wouldn't know any better. I've had dealings with several shops in the area (and, by the way, haven't found any that seem to be "bad apples" - a pleasant contrast to what I'm used to) but I've chosen Dodson's as my "go to" shop for anything I can't handle myself. read more

I started coming to Dodsons shortly after Tim bought the place in the early 2000's. For years I received great service. Always helpful, prompt service but all that changed when Tim unexpectedly died a couple of years ago. I have been loyal to the business since then but the past year or so the customer service has been horrible since. This is the fourth time I have brought my wife's car to get a oil change and every time the wait has been two hours or more. This would be okay if they were busy but that has not been the case. Only a couple of people in the shop. Tim's two sons use to work there but they don't anymore. The folks there now have no since of urgency. They appear to be happy just being there. It is unfortunate but I will find another place to buy my tires and get my cars serviced. Sorry Timmy, I just can't take the bad service anymore. read more

Took my car to them to replace a headlight bulb. The mechanic turned away from the engine bay facing away from the car and grabbed the bulb by the gonads and without looking pulled with all his might till it broke free. Then he spent one hour trying to figure out how it worked so he could explain to me why it was broken out and now I need a new entire plastic headlight assembly. He said the hinge was frozen and would not raise up like it should have and now I need a new assembly. Since the hinge was held in place by a screw I could see all he had to of done was to remove the screw that held the hinge on instead of the blatant total lack of knowledge that the shop had as to how to change a light bulb where they just twist the bulb until it breaks out of the assembly along with the screw and a wire hinge that just raises up so the bulb can be removed. When I told the owner (who also did not know how to change the bulb and who got one of the guys to see if he knew how) he told me to put my car together and leave. read more
