Good sized boat and friendly staff. We were able to see two humpback whales on our tour! Beautiful scenery up the coast even in foggy weather. Highly recommend! read more

We went on our first deep sea fishing charter and it was amazing we were on the smoken reel and our captain Daniel was the best. He made our trip so fun and we were able to catch our fish and I limited out on my crab pods. If you would like to go on a great fishing trip this is your company and ask for Daniel. read more

Clean boats, great Captains and crew. We were lucky and saw 3 whales when we went. Friendly office staff. They don't over crowd the boats so everyone can get a view. We will be going out again in spring. read more

Fantastic boating experience! The captain and deck heads were very attentive to the teenagers who were having their first experience deep sea fishing. Going out at Depoe Bay was so smooth. The time on the water went by so fast because we were catching so many fish. Awesome customer service at check-in. read more

We we're expected to share a pole!! It's not something other charter boats expect nor were we informed. They denied not informing us. This is the responsibility of the booking office. We booked 5 months in advance. We paid for an 8 hr trip ended up finding out upon arrival that it would be 6 hrs. Something that was changed months ago and they didn't inform us. The price was adjusted and we purchased two crab pots ended up receiving one for the price of two. Very disappointing. Individual price should be an individual pole and crab pot. nor would I want to share with any person of the 4 people that were puking on the boat for obvious reasons. I love to share but not when puke is involved. Lol We threw back 6 Black cod because the captain didn't recognize that they were not hake fish when asked by his deck hand!! It was finally pointed out by another like us in the boat. I have little to no fishing experience and could tell that they were distinctively different fish. Thankfully the deck hand was wonderful because the trip could have been horrible. read more

I have used Dockside Charters twice for whale watching. It is a great experience. Dockside had a great crew and makes the trip very enjoyable. read more

I highly recommend The Starship and Caption Kain. . We had an amazing day fishing and seeing the whales. Kain is very personable , it felt like we had know him for years. We will definitely be back. read more

No fishing just waiting. Arrived at scheduled time and waited 45 minutes to be told the conditions were unsafe for boating. Requested a simple notification that the trip was cancelled and a week later still have not received it despite two reassurances that it will be sent. Short staffed, long waits and long excuses. Old business model. Larry read more

Went on a whale-watching trip on the Tacklebuster. The boat departed and returned on time. We saw multiple gray whales fairly close. The 1.5-hour trip was a good amount of time. The price was definitely worth the adventure! read more

we went out during spring break, so it was cold, windy and rainy ...but this is oregon, not cali, so it is to be expected most of the time :) it was a very rocky ride, the waves were very big. our 2 lils were quite scared, but were troopers. My arms were literally sore the next day for holding the railing so tight. It was an adventure for sure. We saw about 3 whales spout and tops as they came up for air. it was not the clearest of days, so we were happy to see what we saw. fun read more

You've got to be kidding! An hour long whale watching excursion for only $20??? The crew was friendly and knowledgeable, and we were able to spot about six different whales while we were out there. My wife was concerned she would get seasick and was dreading the whole adventure. However, she was calmed by the size of the boat , the Samson, was way bigger than the rubber raft she was imagining and she went from sitting and hanging on tightly for dear life to standing up at the bow of the boat taking pictures while bouncing over the waves! Unfortunately she lost her hat to Davy Jone's, but it was totally worth it. I was expecting a great time, and I certainly had one, but I was more impressed they were able to turn my wife's opinion around! This will make it easier to take her next time. Thanks Dockside!!! read more

Disappointed in office staff. When booked we were told this would be fishing only since we were the last to book and didn't want crab. We lost an hour of fishing, so only 4 hours and not the 5 hours that we paid for. Ended up crabbing for half the boat. Last boat in and first boat back. Crew and captain was great. read more

This was a highlight of our trip! We saw whales, yes, but more importantly, we have a 10yo in a wheelchair and several other kids, and we were able to go as a family on this tour. The ramp to the boats is very steep, but Shad, one of the deckhands helped us get the wheelchair down safely and helped with the ramp onto the boat and then helped find positions good for my daughter to watch, and told the captain how to position the boat if possible while watching. These guys were amazing in making this experience truly accessible and inclusive. This is not something we find a lot and we recognize this amazing service when we do! Note that getting UP the ramp to the dock was also difficult because it was so steep, but with help is totally doable. This was 3 of my kids' first time on a boat at ALL, and what a trip! It was a relatively calm sunny day and I would recommend dramamine for those of us who aren't used to boats! read more

Dockside Charters - Perfectly positioned to see whales! - Boating Near Me - Depoe Bay, Oregon

This was a great charter! They were super nice, navigated COVID precautions very well, and were super helpful with the fish! We would definitely recommend using this charter again for good fishing and fun! read more

Make sure you check and see if whales are actually being seen. We went on a whale watching and didn't see anything other than seals on a rock. It was a coastline tour at best. The whales were in Waldport (we knew that Bc our house was there facing the ocean and we could see them blowing) but they took our money and us out knowing full well we would see nothing. After we got back they said they hadn't seen them in a few days and didn't know where they were. I assumed they must travel down or have more in the Depoe Bay Area that we would see. They didn't even make any acknowledgment that "oh sorry folks we aren't seeing them today. Sorry for that disappointment." I realize they can't control whether or not we see them, but then KNEW we wouldn't Bc those whales had been an hour drive south since at least Tuesday when we saw them. We went on Friday to tour. They were stillllll pushing to sell whale tours when we headed off our lack-luster ride. I'm sure it's great when you see them but don't assume they will slow down on touring if they are nowhere to be found. They will most definitely take the money! read more

After saving for TWO YEARS for this tuna trip, booked in person and well in advance. TWICE they cancelled it. The second time, they even sent me a confirmation text two days before. Their solution to cancelling a 12hour trip? Offer me a 5 hour inshore bottom fishing trip. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! Ruined my birthday and lost a 3 year customer because the staff was inconsiderate an couldn't care less that I had to take two days off from work. I'm not a rich man. So, this was a huge deal for me. As a local, I would've liked to have been treated with a bit more consideration respect. I wil NEVER use Dockside again.nd read more

Great time whale watching. The man at the booth on the main road was seriously great! Super friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. We got to the dock and they had the boat super clean. The staff was very friendly and we had a great time...until we both got extremely sea sick. Note: the ocean is wavy lol. read more

My Dad, wife, and I went whale watching with the Whale's Tail, the zodiac whale watching boat that Dockside Charters runs. We signed up for two trips and had a great time both days, saw whales both days, and though we were always hoping to get a bit closer, what we saw was amazing. Our captain was friendly in a quiet way that I like and clearly took the job of scouting whales seriously. I'm very confident that without him, we would've seen nothing our whole time in Depoe Bay. Highly recommended! read more

This was a terrible experience. We booked a trip for my father-in-law's birthday two months in advance. We spoke to them a couple of days beforehand to confirm and were told that we were all set to go and that the boat was fully booked. We woke up at 5AM in order to drive down to Depoe Bay to be there in time for check in. We were told that the captain had not arrived yet and to wait-which we did. When we saw other people checking in, we went in to check in ourselves and were told that the Captain had "decided not to go out" that day. No explanation, no apology, just that our credit card would not be charged. All the other boats left, it was a beautifully calm day-there was no reason to cancel. To try and salvage our trip, we ended up having to drive North to Nehalem Bay where we rented a boat and went crabbing at Kelly's Brighton Marina. read more

A big thanks to James at Dockside Charters. He took my husband, father in law and me out for a 5 hour rockfish/ling cod trip on Sunday. When we left port, my husband commented that all the other boats were going North while we went south. It turned out James was spot on. We had 10 fish in the boat in the first hour and ended up limiting everyone in the boat including James within 4 hours. The other boats didn't fare as well and came down to our spot towards the end of the trip. James was fantastic. Very attentive, attended to our poles, was very nice. Great time, we will definitely do this again. Back on the dock, the folks filleting the fish were amazingly fast. Well worth the $1 per fish. read more

The fishing captain and his crew were really good at what they did.. but the front desk personnel needs to be replaced. I had a family member end up in the hospital the day before our trip, the family was worried sick, and these a***holes didn't care. They made me pay for 8 people when there was only 4. I will never go with them again, and recommend Tradewinds charters. Thanks dockside charters!!! read more

6 of us went out, but only 4 returned... Just kidding! We went out on the Endeavor, bright and early for rock fish. Among the 6 of us there were 4 adults and 2 young-uns'. After some unsuccessful stops, the the captain was able to find a hot bed of fish. All of us managed to bring in a fish we were able to keep. Including me, so that sure made the day awesome. Very nice people, and also very helpful. Just make sure if you want to get some crab you have a crabbing license, and let them know when you check in. You are supposed to pay extra for crabbing. read more

We had a wonderful time! We saw so many gray whales on our tour - they were feeding very close to the rocky shores off Depoe Bay. As I understand it, (I read a little about it...) some gray whales don't go all the way to Alaska on their migration, they just hang around the Oregon Coast June-October. We got a great show. We will make a tradition of this and will be returning. Definitely try the zodiac (smaller boat) for a more up-close experience. Worth every penny. read more

I've fished with Dockside multiple times. The effort the Captain and crew put into making a productive and enjoyable trip is amazing.

We hired Bill on the boat Cha Son for a half day of fishing. We caught one Lin cod, 20 rock fish, and 21 crab. We had the boat to ourselves, coffee, good weather and great conversation. Bill is a great guide, friendly, personable and in no time he's the kind of guy that you feel like you already have known for years. The cost was well worth the time. Ask for Bill, you will be glad you did. read more

Our recent time on The Tacklebuster was fantastic! Everyone we encountered from booking our trip to handling and storing our catch at Dockside Charters was very friendly and helpful! I've taken several fishing charters in the past and would highly recommend this boat! We happened to luck out and have incredible weather and fishing; were able to limit the entire boat despite several being too sick to fish, but the Tacklebuster made the experience! The captain and crew were top notch....experienced, knowledgable and fun. Thank you Captain JT, Josh and Bruce for your great service which made for a positive experience for us! We will be back! read more

Very friendly crew. My boys and I had a blast. Limited out quickly. Crew really knows what they're doing and so helpful in explaining what to do and when. Overall just so happy. read more

We had an excellent experience with Dockside Charters!! We booked a 6-person boat for our trip and were fortunate to have the Starship to ourselves. Captain Kain (I hope I spelled that correctly) was beyond fantastic. He made sure we fished the best locations, answered all our questions and was a really great guy to have captaining our adventure. The fish were breaking the surface all around us throughout most of the trip!! We even had a whale breach right next to the boat. We limited on Crab and Rock Fish and caught some really nice Ling Cod. We had two first timers with our party (one adult, one child) and they said it was "Amazing"! We highly recommend these guys! read more

Email confirmation did not work. Excellent parking! I enjoyed our 5 hour deep sea trip, but was disappointed by the skipper of our boat. He was the captain's 14 year old son. He slept in the cabin the entire fishing trip! read more

I went out with one of Dockside's boat recently. Outer Limits was the boat name and for the most part, it was a good trip. We caught 28 tuna in 12 hours. A couple things bothered me though. The Captain said that his deck hand was not able to make this particular trip so he had called his Father and young son, who is 9 years old, to help with deck duties on our trip. The Father was great, very helpful and had a great attitude. The little boy worked hard and I was impressed that he really put effort into what he was doing, but then he would do annoying things like argue with his grand father, and yell orders at customers. He needs a lesson in customer service. Although there were several inexperienced fishermen on the boat, most of the men were experienced and did not need a cocky 9 year-old using a level of instruction that was more condescending than it needed to be. I thought it was "cute" to have the kid helping out, I did not pay good money to watch him climb into an ice bin that was full of our fish, stomp on those fish, and thrash around in it for reasons only he knows. I will say no more about this kid except that I think he needs to be taken down a notch and try not to be so cocky. The only other thing I would say about our trip is I wish I would have brought EAR PLUGS! The boat is a twin screw with what I think sounded like 3208 Cats and they are LOUD. read more

Paid online for crabbing. Drive all the way from portland, after calling before i leave to make sure everything is all good. Get there, they are out of liscenses. They offer to charge me a duel angling and crabbing for 3 times the price . Very disappointed after driving all the way down here. I could have been told before leaving that this could happen or there should be a alternative way of registering people to fish/crab for a product you already sold them. The office staff was not the friendliest or accomidating to fix their error either. read more
