Fogarty Creek beach access.
Kim R.

Great park for picnics and family get-togethers... and it shows. Every time we've stopped by the picnic areas and shelters are packed with large groups. There is a north and south entrance, and both have their own picnic & parking areas, as well as their own paths to the beach. With minimal trails, but great parking...even for larger vehicles like our camper van...we tend to use the park as a place to hang out and relax between hikes on the coast.

State park

Worth checking out! This was a beautiful state park that has parking on the far side of the 101 with access along a creek to the beach! Whichever side of the creek you enter on is also the way you leave on, there is only bridges near the parking lot to cross. Plenty of large grassy areas, and picnic tables if you wanted to have a picnic though some areas were slightly flooded. Beautiful place great to check out! Amazing to have all the options beach, forest, and creek! The only bummer we felt this park had was the noise from vehicles passing by on the 101. We still managed to connect with nature just fine though

Really low tide

My wife and I love staying at the Surfrider Hotel over looking Forgarty Park. The sand near the ocean is more gravely than sandy. Great place for exploring

Great access to the beach. The two parking lots are only separated by a creek. So there is plenty of parking. A short walk and your at a well taken care of beach. Lots of splashing on the rocks making for great photo ops.

Wonderful area to hike around the forest and then take the trail to the beach. Easy access from the main road and ample parking

Friendly staff, nice and clean amenities. Definitely a tight packed camp ground but it was still very pretty

Ask the Community - Fogarty Creek State Park

I notice there is a north or south entrance off of hwy 101. Which one is better for tide pools? Or do they both get you to the same place?

Both take you to the same spot, just different parking lots on the two sides of the creek.

When we noticed that the tide was slowly rising, it was time to get out of there.

My best days are spent at the coast, the beach is my happy place. Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint…read moreis my favorite spot to just sit quietly and watch the ocean. I've seen whale spouts -some 10-16 feet high- almost every time so I know they are out there. When whale migration is in full swing, there are usually volunteers from the Whale Museum in Depoe Bay or a Ranger walking around answering questions and sharing their binoculars. If you see one, take advantage of their vast knowledge and listen. The seagulls & pigeons are always hungry and will wait patiently while you decide to do the right thing and throw them a piece of whatever you're eating. This is one of the best places in Oregon to see ocean-going birds like shearwaters, albatrosses, grebes, pelicans, loons, & oystercatchers. I've seen osprey and bald eagles fly over too. It's pretty windy most of the time but that never stops us from picnicking at one of the many weathered picnic tables set up around the parking lot. Even when it's raining, we pick up a snack at one of the many eateries nearby and eat in the car while the wind howls outside. Parking has never been a problem and it's FREE. There are real flush toilets and the bathrooms are fairly well maintained as far as I've experienced. I've never noticed any "strange characters" hanging around but there are lots of people with dogs and visitors from out-of-state enjoying the view. I like to take my sketchbook and do some quick drawing when I can. I've also been known to pull into a parking spot facing the water, roll down a window and take a nap. There's nothing better than the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep. It's worth the time to stop and check out the view, you'll never be sorry you did.

A guy who was there at the same time as we were (earlier today) told us that he had expected to likely see whales. It would have been exciting to see whales - this park is a frequent viewing spot for migrating grey whales and humpbacks - but it was a magnificent place to take in, even without seeing any whales. The waves are high, strong, raucous, and lively here. There are magical coves amidst green and gray rocks off to the right of the main viewing area. I could imagine mermaids sitting on the rocks of these coves, discussing light and life and sea. A beautiful brief excursion on our road trip. I hope to visit here again in the future, and maybe see the whales migrating. Will post photos maybe sooner than one or two weeks into the future, since the battery on my camera was exhausted by the time we reached this park and I won't be able to charge it until we reach Gold Beach, so Ryan may email me some photos tonight that I took on his phone. Photos do not do this place justice, though... not even close. But I will add the photos soon anyway, especially since I have the honor of being the one to add this park to yelp! This park is possibly not the best place to bring active small children, especially those children who are prone to wander, since there are several steep, high, unfenced, unwalled-off drop offs over sharp, wet rock faces. Just a breathtaking, indescribable place to watch lively ocean waves. So happy that we made this unplanned stop today!

We had originally planned to get here early enough to take a whale watching boat tour, but it was so incredibly foggy, we decided to just park and see what we could on the walkway on the main street though town. While a trip out on one of the many boats that leave from here would have been fun, since they all seem to come right near to the shore to see the same whales we were seeing, we saved a few bucks and had a great walk through town instead. There's an informative whale info center, with some great views from their second floor observatory (we even saw a sea lion or two lounging out on the rocks!) along with all the usual gift shops and some pretty good restaurant choices, all in easy walking distance. I'd say go EARLY, both to take the whale watching tours, which seemed to be selling out pretty quickly, in spite of the fog, and to avoid the MUCH larger crowds that seemed to be arriving just as we were heading out around lunch time. Don't let the crowds scare you too much though; it's a great stop and DEFINITELY worth a visit!!
