Staff were very friendly and helpful, considering I ordered breakfast 15 minutes before it was over. The coffee I ordered came out as nothing short of excellent and the food hit the spot with my tastebuds. It was definitely enjoyable going from coffee to my meal and back without any interference on the flavours that this cafe has managed to capture and harness. The menu can be found on their website: http://www.theboilerroomcafe.com.au Those who enjoy chain coffee shops will find the same money going towards something of better quality in a location that is spacious, vibrant and welcoming to all. I will definitely be making visits in the future.

With its name an homage to the previous business that existed on the site (the beautiful old facade…read moreof which was used as part of the new building), Dan & Andy's Hawthorne Garage has finally opened its doors to the public. I say "finally" because I've driven past almost every day on my way to work and the "coming soon" banners have been teasing me for at least the last six months (maybe nine, or twelve even). When I drove past earlier this week and noticed customers enjoying their beverages out the front, I almost wept for joy, and prioritised a drop-in. Because who doesn't love a deli? And that's what the Garage is, a glorious deli, an upmarket supermarket for those who can afford $13 for a punnet of blueberries (I sincerely hope each berry comes with a guarantee of sweetness). Local brothers Dan & Andy have brought to life a grocer / produce / deli / meat / bakery / fine food / coffee shop. The space is much bigger than most similar billings I've browsed in Brisbane, and next time I go back, I'm making sure I have a good hour to take my time strolling through each aisle. I will also leave my wallet in the safe hands of a friend. I am keen on the fact that the Garage's own DNA Espresso bar (accessible via the deli counter or out the front at its own window) is open from 6am until 8pm every day, and I hope they don't end up scaling back on that because of lack of demand. The coffee itself (I had a flat white), while very nice, isn't quite up to the calibre of my daily morning brew (from Cup, so I kinda have high standards) - so I won't be altering my daily caffeine fix, but I'll be more than happy to pick up a cheeky takeaway whenever I find myself buying some Barambah Organics yoghurt, or Bagel Boys bagels, or Leavain bread, maybe a cupcake from Jocelyn's Provisions, or some Fever Tree mixers, or some of my favourite gourmet dips that I was overjoyed to see on the shelves here. Pick up some fresh flowers for your mum from the Campbell & Bradley flower corner. There's on-site parking around the back and you can pay for your takeaway coffee along with your other finds at the main checkouts. If you come in from the carpark, there are some adorable little trolleys for you to pop your shopping in. Look... seriously, somebody please take my wallet off me. I think it's time for a picnic!

I was sent a text and was asked to quickly find a location for a small group of 5 people to meet up…read moreand have breakfast. In a flash I hit up Yelp, praying for an option close to hotels near Chermside, with good food, and good prices. I am so thankful that in my first search one of the recommendations was Nana & Da's. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION The name alone sounds antique, family oriented, and comforting. After looking at a few pictures and the scenery, I knew that Nana & Da's was the perfect spot. The cottage location builds upon everything the name represents. Cute, family and comforting. The cottage however wasn't small whatsoever with plenty of room for small and larger groups. Nana & Da's sells a selection of relishes, and chilli so that you can even have a part of the splendour at home. Now, less about the awesome scenery and back to the what's really on everyone's mind, and most likely the reason you are reading this- FOOD. Dear lord the food was amazing. I personally ordered the 'Potato & Mozzarella Hash, Lemon & Dill Labna, Tomato Relish, Shard and Poached Eggs (gf) *add bacon and a Bloody Mary to cure a hangover (I added bacon). Firstly, the hash was amazing, and as it's possible to have it on the side for $5.00 I highly recommend getting it extra, regardless of your budget (it's definitely the standout). Accompanying that was the labna which I had to share with everyone who ordered with me because it was an experience I had to share with others. The relish was great but was slightly gritty. The eggs were also great, and as I ordered some bacon as a side, they worked together beautifully. I could rave on all day about my spectacular experience but as you must already know, all the food was delicious. My company also raved about their amazing meals, and from our altogether experience, I can without a doubt say that Nana & Da's is one of the best breakfast locations in Brisbane. Oh and did I mention the breakfast is served all day? Enjoy!

And maybe I was sun-drunk from sitting out the front with Spring's sun rays beaming down on me, or maybe (as I suspect) after more than a year serving their eats to hungry breakfast hunters, Nana & Da's have found their groove. When I first visited, it was their first week in business and since then they've settled into their cottage cafe. I was pleased to discover they're still pouring Supreme beans and my long iced black was the best accompaniment to a hot Spring day. There's an all day breakfast and a hearty lunch menu featuring items like beef brisket and plenty of vegetables! And, if you're only in the market for elevensies, check out the cake cabinet by the counter - lemon tea cake, raspberry friands - they're all there. I opted to order from the all day breakfast menu and honed straight in one the three cheese toast with buttered asparagus. Regardless of what time of day you're eating this it isn't a large meal - more of an ample snack. It's perfect if you just want something to tide you over or you find yourself not particularly hungry but everyone else is ordering that stack of pancakes.

The queue was quick and the menu was large, and easy to read. The service was friendly and prompt, I like that. Once our order was placed we sat down. Before we knew it our coffee arrived, followed by our food shortly afterwards. We both ordered avocado on toast with bacon. For what you got, very pricey! The bread was a little bit soggy and not crunchy which is what I was hoping for. However the avocado was thoroughly ripe, creamy, and the bacon was crunchy on the outsides, succulent in the middle. For drinks I ordered an iced latte. It was full bodied and flavoursome, a great ratio between milk, coffee, and ice. Nothing to complain about here! Well done Refueled Café, thumbs up!

I've never ventured to Brendale before. I'll admit I was sketchy on where exactly Brendale was. But with my trusty GPS in tow finding Cleanskin Coffee Co on Old South Pine Road was a breeze. It's an industrial area and Cleanskin will be on your right hand side. They do some great blends including their "coffee shop" blends of Saint and Sinner. Rhiannon S was right on the money. The front room is stark white and there's almost a "walking into a hospital" feeling too it all even down to the looking glass wall the separates the main retail room from the roasting room. To avoid looking like a deer in headlights like I did when I walked into Cleanskin, take these tips: + It is primarily a roasting house. It is actually pretty neat to sit and watch it all happen. Take a seat on one of the bar tables and drink up. There were a few people sitting and partaking in a bit of a co-working session when I arrived. + Know what you're there for. When I arrived I wasn't entirely sure what to expect and I think it showed as soon as I opened the door. I quickly ordered a cold press ice coffee (delicious - best in Brisbane. No joke) all while trying to take in my surroundings. You can buy a coffee, beans for home and other coffee-making paraphenalia. + If you don't know, ask. I must have looked like a right dingus when the too cool for school bearded barista wandered over to ask if I needed any help. I did and he quickly helped me select a bean that would suit both my Aeropress and stove top espresso thing-a-ma-jig. If you're wondering it was the No. 14 blend. As well as being first-class coffee roasters, these cool cats are keen on educating the masses too and rumour has it they'll be starting education nights soon. They already have barista courses running (one day sessions, max four students) My only disappointment? When buying your beans at Cleanskin they come in a glass bottle. It's super cute and for a packaging fiend like myself, I'll openly admit, it was just one of the many attractions to this brand for me. Plus, each time you bring your bottle back you get $1 off your purchase. But, as I had them ground it for me, I was taking home a brown sealed bag not a glass bottle. First world problems, I know.

I was intrigued. Then I heard about then again, when I found out Hangar13 in Zillmere used their cleanskin beans - buying their beans to custom package as their own brand. I looked them up and discovered they weren't too far away from me on the north side of Brisbane. They are located in Brendale, which is near Strathpine and Carseldine. There is an espresso bar as well as the roastery. It's all very white and with the crazy brewing equipment that looks like chemistry beakers, it really looks like a cross between an Apple Store and a Chemistry lab. Come in and try one of their blends or single origins in either an espresso style (cappuccino, latte, flat white) or in a brewed style (aeropress, pourover). You can also buy the beans and various equipment for home. They are also starting to hold free educational events or Masterclasses on Thursday night at 7pm. I went to the first Masterclass last night - it was about the Pourover (what it is and the technique). This is a must for any coffee fanatic, and will help you make great coffee at home. The brewing techniques are all very easy and accessible to do at home. We all got to taste some of the coffees, and although we could then buy equipment, the guys weren't pushy at all. This is just a group of coffee lovers, wanting to share the wonderful world of coffee with everyone. Not a sales push. Cleanskin Coffee Co also have their own cold press coffee - bottled and sold for either $4 each or 6 for $20. If you are a fan of cold press coffee, you will be pleased at the taste and cost of these. They're much cheaper than most of the other cold press bottles available in Brisbane! I could ramble on for hours about this place, do yourself a favour and check it out. They're open on Saturdays and til 9pm on Thursday night too.
