Recently took my license test here and i was so nervous. but the lady was very nice. tips for anyone else taking their test there soon since i couldn't find a map online like other DMVs. during my second right turn there was an immediate right turn from a bike lane. also had to go through a roundabout. followed a couple people around before my test and saw some people go on the highway. get there early to follow some people around. overall a pretty good DMV experience though waiting is expected read more

I had the best DMV experience of my life here this morning! I knew having an appt would make my trip faster; so, at 8:30am I checked to see if there were any available for today. Since it isn't a city, I thought I might have a chance. There was an appt for 10:10am, and I took it. When I got there, I got my ticket number immediately and as soon as I sat down, my number was called. The staff was courteous and professional. A little bit disorganized, but a lot better than the stereotype. If you make an appointment (you can do this online) & show up on time, they let you go straight to the"red carpet" (okay, it's not quite Hollywood). A couple computer delays and a lack of cash with which to make change put a bit of a damper on the experience. Am so frustrated with the DMV in general. I sent my payments for both my license renewal and car registration on the same day, March 18th. I received my registration on April 3rd but not my license. I check with my bank and only the payment for the registration has gone through. So I go on line to DMV site to see if there's a way to track my payment. No luck. So I call to talk to someone. First call, recording says "wait time, one hour" Then it says I can leave a call back number which I do and then it says my place in line will be save and I will get called back. 2 hours later, no callback. So I call again, this time it says "wait time, two hours." By this time its 4:30pm and they close at 5pm so how can they even say a 2 hour wait? No one will be there in 2 hours! So I go back on line to find a place to chat with someone or write directly. No luck. There's only a place to take customer survey. So I take the survey and there's a place where you can leave your e-mail address if you want someone to contact you. Okay so I do that. Next day, no callback, no e-mail from someone, nothing! So I try calling again and get the same recording, the same long waiting times. So and leave a second callback number. Later that day, I finally get a callback and am told that they don't know what to tell me, it doesn't show that it's being processed. They have no tracking system and I should come to the office. Unfortunately I couldn't go right then and it was Friday and the office here isn't open on Saturdays and on Monday my license will be expired. So looks like I will be spending Monday, my birthday sitting in the DMV, oh joy! If they are "striving" for good customer service, they have failed miserably! There's no excuse! read more

Highly recommend scheduling an appointment online as you get to use the shorter line and get service first! it's worth planning a head a bit. So I cleared my behind the wheel test on 12th August, it has been more than two months (!) now and I still have not received my chip license card. I had submitted my EAD card on 18th August in person at San Jose DMV office. After a wait of one month, I called DMV for status and came to know that they don't have my EAD card and it's pending on that, which if I had not called I would have never known. Then I faxed my EAD card again on 16th September. And now it's been more than a month after I submitted what they needed, and I still am waiting for my license card. I keep calling every week for status. This is the most inconvenient service ever ! read more

If you have to do ANYTHING outside the ordinary, such as register your vehicle, renew your license, or take a driver's test then prepare yourself for an extended exercise in frustration. The supervisor here (asian/hispanic woman who doesn't wear a name tag) is a joke of a supervisor. When asked what a 4 letter acronym stood for, her answer was: "oh... uh... that's an internal code, we don't divulge that information". She's also got a super case of rudeness. Really? You couldn't just say, "Hmm, good question, I dont know what it stands for exactly, but it indicates.... " When they don't know the answer to something they will spit out a piece of information just to get you out of their hair. I'm a military guy that has had untitled off-road vehicles from another state that I needed to get titled in CA. I got the runaround. 3 other non-regular situations that I needed the DMV for and it always seems like I have to tell them how to do their job (after I do some internet research). This place, and mainly the supervisor, are a joke. Sure, there's a couple nice workers there that will actually put in some effort, but count yourself lucky when you find one. read more

Spent 3.5 hours there to have them run my card and tell me it's declined. The woman helping me misspelled my name in typing it in, she kept asking me for the information that was on the paperwork I handed her. And then when I told her there was more than $600 on my account she said, cards declining - come back tomorrow. I ran it twice. So I left pretty ticked. I went straight to my bank. They confirmed the card works and the money is available. So it was USER ERROR on her part or their system. Either way, she took forever, was bad about getting details correct, and then embarrassed me when SHE messed up the transaction. BULL. I'll take the wait time in Salinas and go there. I've had better luck with competent people there. read more

Blown away by this DMV. Very clean and pleasant. I was in and out in under 30 minutes without an appointment. A+ service.

No appointment, arrived at 11 AM for license renewal and Real ID application. Completed process and out the door before 12:10, which included the greeter, the document checker, getting a number from info desk, waiting only 10 minutes for number to come up, seeing rep for entry of Real ID information into system, vision test, payment, photo, and taking written test on one out of 16 or so computer touch screen monitors, then on to final step and getting temporary license documents. I have no complaints about the staff, the building, or the process. If I had made an appointment online it might have even been faster. read more

Best bureaucratic experience of my life!! I made an appointment for renewal of DL to new REAL DL (used for air travel), and I brought in all the required paperwork, cash and check forms of payment just in case. I was in and out in exactly 15 minutes. Come to California for the sunshine , stay for the Seaside DMV!!! read more

There were fifty people waiting before the office even opened! Someone from DMV was outside prioritizing customers before they entered. I was about number 30 in line with no appointment. DMV bashing is old and a very frequent review adventure, but this experience hits the egregious level. Yes, folks five hours of my life at the Seaside DMV waiting and never served. If I hadn't lost my DL this whole adventure would never have occurred but I messed up. Bottom line five hours of waiting and no license. Inquired of the staff regarding long wait time. Got usual bureaucrat response, shoulder shrug, upturned palms and a stupid facial expression. Message is: I am powerless to fix you I am as much of a victim as you are. Re-locating and lost my license on the beach. Memories of LA DMV - was extremely anxious of going through the process of replacing drivers license. What a pleasant surprise. No line. I am new to the area, having retired from social work in another county. I decided to get a Real ID for my license renewal, so I gathered up my documents to include my water bill from Monterey One Water, which clearly shows my street address and my name. The lady at the check-in desk looked like she was spoiling to ruin somebody's day, and today it was my turn. She decided that since the water bill has the street address but does not specifically say "Monterey CA" after the street address, then the document does not constitute valid proof that I live in Monterey. I pointed to the big Monterey One Water logo at the top, asking how many iterations of that address exist in the Monterey One Water service area. She put on a sour puss and refused to exercise common sense, declaring that it doesn't say Monterey. I pointed to Monterey One Water again, repeating the previous go-around, hoping her tiny brain would wake up. Nope. Idiot. Then I pulled out google maps on my droid and punched in my street address. The nearest example of the address is Union City, far from the Monterey One Water. I have worked for many years in government jobs that require customers to bring proof of residence. My water bill would have normally been perfectly acceptable documentation, but this lowlife loser at the DMV decided her job was to antagonize the public and give the Seaside DMV an even worse reputation than it already has. I had an appointment for DL and ID. I was sent away because of a FTA for speeding. They did not issue me a new ID and did not want to help me out. I have been going back for two weeks now the lines are crazy. Idk why the lady sent me away with an appointment and didn't let me get my ID when I even filled out paperwork. Has never happened to me before. Legally you need to have an ID on you at all times. Apparently, Monterey DMV does NOT follow the law. read more

I read some of the Google reviews on this DMV, and wondered if it was the same place? Who knows. I had to renew my driver's license in person since the last two renewals were by the internet/mail. The nearest appointment was about two weeks away, so that gave me some extra time to get used to my new glasses. I arrived at 2:25PM, and there was a little line at the "start" reception desk. I missed my number being called, and noticed somebody was already at my window. However the nice lady there gave me a new number. It was better that way, because I had a clearer view of the snellen chart from the window on the side. I read three lines, paid my $31, signed off on the renewal, and my photo was taken. The whole process was done under in about ten minutes. The gentlemen at Window 2 was very efficient and courteous. And as always get an appointment, or you'll be waiting a while. ;) read more

Pretty much what you expect from any DMV, or any government institution for that matter. Compared to other DMVs though, this one actually isn't that bad. Waiting in line for more than 10 minutes is never fun, but this one generally goes pretty fast. I didn't make an appointment and was able to get in and out within an hour, as compared to 4 hours at other locations. read more

Took 2 1/2 months to transfer title and plates for an out of state motorcycle because personnel at this office did not know what to do with a paperless title. After countless calls to banks and the out-of-state DMV, a supervisor at this office finally figured out I had all the paperwork I needed from the beginning. read more

The staff member in the office was helpful. But now I am out of state and need to talk to someone with the DMV. There is a toll free number to call, but I am unsuccessful in getting to talk to anyone by calling the toll free number. So, basically I am fucked. There is no way to communicate other than via the toll free number as best I can determine, and, as I have said, I got put on hold for 33 minutes and gave up. WTF read more
