They'd be a 1 star but the phone person, receptionist and nurse were all quite pleasant and did a good job but that's where to good about this place begins and ends. The building is in a residential neighborhood and needs some attention inside and out. The whole place inside is sparce, out dated and frankly reminiscent of something out of the depression and it is kinda depressing. I came here to seek out a physician near my new home that could assume my pain management which I have been undergoing since my neck was broken in 2004. I've been seen by literally dozens of doctors since then but have been under regular care from my highly competent and caring neurologist in TN since 2007 and unfortunately an 8 hour drive to see her 8 times a year is not a real option. So aside from a primary care doc, a neurologist and cardiologist I have been informed that a pain management specialist would be the best course of treatment options in this area because of the intense scrutiny that doctors have been under in Alabama for nearly a decade. It really became an urgent matter here when it was discovered in 2012 that Alabama was first place in the nation for per capita opioid prescriptions with 143.8 prescriptions per 100 residents. That's 143 prescriptions for every man, woman and child in the state, insane!!! While they have made some very good progress statewide over the years the medical community is reluctant to even talk about pain management and this is where my encounter with Dr. Rony Lee and Gulf Coast Occupational, Sports, and Pain Medicine comes in. I showed up for my first appointment with a couple hundred pages of medical records, multiple x-rays, CT scans, MRI's, lab readouts, psych evaluations and current medications. It tool nearly 30 minutes to complete a lot of forms, many giving sweeping permissions and making multiple agreements to submit to all kinds of screenings and detailing all the ways that I could be dismissed from treatment, it was quite the manifesto that I'm sure is a big CYA but at the same time is kinda demeaning. So being prepared I'm escorted into the exam room with my sweetheart and after the pregunctory vitals we wait. When the doctor enters his greeting was essentially "I can't help you". What? He didn't look at any of my records or results but went in a rant about how doctors and clinics have been shut down and people arrested and how he is surprised that I've been receiving the medications, injections and other treatments that I'd listed on my forms. I initially was going into a lot of additional details but it's too personal & not really necessary but the biggest takeaways are after I made three (3) attempts to ask how he might be able to help me it tool my sweetheart two (2) different ways of asking him the same questions before he gave a short answer. His bottom line was he couldn't help and, in my opinion, he had no sympathy or empathy or a hint of any good doctor characteristics. His goodbye was a wave over his shoulder and uttering "no charge". What a relief, I wouldn't have to pay to hear him opine about his conditions. Bottom line: I feel sorry for the poor souls that end up with this sad little clinic. Stay away!!!
