Having the right DJ at your wedding can make or break your night and Raffi absolutely crushed it! I've worked in the event industry for almost 15 years at this point and Raffi's expertise and professionalism exceeded his reputation. It can be tough to read the vibes in the room and know when to switch up the beats and Raffi absolutely delivered keeping the dance floor PACKED all night! His diverse ability to go from 90 electronic to 80s pop to Middle Eastern mixes to 2000s rock songs had everyone from all ages out there having a blast! A ton of guests at our wedding commented on how well Raffi did which speaks volumes of his ability to keep everyone engaged and energetic which can be tough based on other events we've been to. We also decided to go with Raffi for the lighting and at our first look, our jaws dropped at how well he did at transforming the room into the perfect atmosphere for our special day! He met with us on several occasions within the 2 weeks prior to the wedding to finalize everything and make sure we were comfortable with the flow of events and song selection. Also he was very responsive to e-mails which was greatly appreciated and even provided wedding timeline suggestions, as he is very experienced and knowledgable. For the reception, I didn't provide too many specific song suggestions for dancing. The songs he chose for the reception were awesome - though we had selected a few slow songs for the reception, he read the vibe of the room and pivoted by instead playing only dancing music. DJ Raffi was adequate. The good points are his prices were reasonable, he showed up to our wedding on time, and he played music at a good volume (which was actually very important for our venue, Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary). He also made a nice little photo slideshow set to a French cover of our first dance song, and that was a nice bonus that we weren't expecting. However, at 9:30pm the night before our 11am wedding, my husband got a phone call. Although we had sent Raffi the music file for our processional music days before at his request (we told him the title over 6 weeks before), he either did not open the file until then, or did not notify us until then that it didn't work. It possibly makes it worse that he has since insisted that he could not have notified us any sooner, and that the alternative, in his mind, was that he not notify us at all (his words: "Wouldn't you agree that it was better to reach out to you, however late, than disappointing you on your wedding day?"). Other issues: it was hard to get him to reply to e-mails (or even phone calls) asking if he had everything he needed from us, which my husband started sending 6 weeks prior to the event date. We requested that the best man give his toast mid-meal (he had a small baby to take care of, and we wanted him to eat) -- Raffi called him up for his toast before we even sat down. We requested mostly 70's/80's/90's rock -- Raffi's second song was "In the Mood", to which only two people danced, and he has referred to this as "well-received". His assistant almost played the wrong song for my bouquet toss, but, to his credit, did fix it before anyone else noticed. Also be aware that he will expect you, a caterer, or a wedding planner to tell him when to do things like the bouquet toss and the first dance -- I did not know this, and assumed he would follow the itinerary he asked us to make. I honestly don't know what the standard protocol is, but either way, it's not an issue if you know ahead of time. Did our guests notice? Nope -- the groom rectified the processional music situation the night before, the best man showed grace under pressure, "In the Mood" was quickly switched to Michael Jackson (and I thankfully have two swing dancing friends), no one knew what song I'd asked for for my bouquet toss, and between my mom, the caterer, my maid of honor, and me, everything happened at a reasonable pace. I can't, however, recommend anyone who -- for any reason -- cannot take the time to check that an important file is functional until nearly 12 hours before an event as big as a wedding, and who would even consider it an option not to rectify such a glitch at all. The basic lack of response to our various communications over several weeks beforehand isn't desirable, either. Finally, I'd like to add that I originally had a more colorful, hyperbolic review (typical of Yelp, I'd say) of DJ Raffi, and then received an e-mail from him (and a number of other responses, all of which read like cross-posts between unnecessaryquotes.com and passiveaggressivenotes.com) asking that I change it. I have obliged and have not changed any facts, but made the review in cooler language -- which, on its own, is a reasonable request. However, since it took me a few days to compose a thoughtful response (I am a PhD student and a tad busy), we received another e-mail from him before I could send anything... requesting a response within a few days before he would be "taking further action". The "further action" was never specified, but it's hard to take a deadline seriously from someone who never even responded at all to more than half of the e-mails and phone calls we sent to him. read more

Raffi is AMAZING!!!!!!! He created the most beautiful atmosphere with lighting and filled it with just the right blend of funky, eclectic music. Everything he did was done perfectly. The dining hour volume was perfect. Speakers were presented flawlessly, everything was cued on time and seamlessly. Best of all, the dance floor was packed the whole night- he has this amazing ability to read the crowd and give them just what they want! Raffi truly went above and beyond- he spoiled us rotten and even had a special surprise for us the night of the wedding! He made us feel like he was genuinely happy for us and honored to be a part of the day, and that was so incredibly special to us. DJ Raffi was great! We used him for our wedding reception in July at the Boston Public Library and everything went off without a hitch. We met with him twice beforehand and gave him a detailed list of songs that we wanted. We wanted someone who would not talk into the microphone and "perform", but just play a great mix of songs to keep a wide range of ages out on the dance floor. DJ Raffi did just that. The dance floor was packed the whole night; in fact, before we could even finished going around to all the tables to say hello, the dance floor was so packed that we just gave up on the hellos and joined them! We also used Raffi for lighting, which was fabulous. He really knew the space and as lighting was not something I knew much about, I trusted him to make the right choice and he did. We were 99% ready to put a deposit down with DJ Raffi for DJ services and lighting, and we're happy we didn't. Raffi was not available to do our wedding, but highly recommended another DJ in his company, DJ Bob. After an initial meeting, in which Raffi did all the talking and DJ Bob sat pretty much silent and withdrawn, I walked away feeling hesitant. So I asked our wedding planner to ask Raffi for Bob's last name so I could search the internet for reviews prior to making the final decision. Next thing I know, I get a call from Raffi himself speaking down to me in a completely irrational and unprofessional manner about how I should trust my wedding planner and his recommendations and not question them. He went on and on about this and my attempt to rationalize with him went no where. He pretty much said, "this isn't going to work out." Well, we're thrilled it didn't and karma is something, because guess who DJ'ed the wedding we attended the week before our wedding? DJ BOB!!! We could not believe it. Needless to say, we felt bad for our friends, his performance was embarrassing at times...so many mistakes, including screeching feedback as the bride walked down the isle. Proof that there's aways something behind a irrational reaction and things happen for a reason. Our DJ was cheaper than what Raffi quoted and incredible!!! No regrets. read more
