I thought that sounded ridiculous but shortly after we moved into Manhattan, we visited the Rainbow store on First Avenue between 75th and 76th Streets and I realized our friend was absolutely right. Over the last few years we've purchased essentials for our kitchen, everything from measuring cups to excellent baking pans! We've purchased our very study laundry/ shopping cart, pictures frames, an inflatable mattresse, probably dozens of cosmetics, soaps, shampoos as well as toys, art supplies and of course, stuff you need from a hardware store! We live about ten blocks away but we know that it's the place to go when we need something for the apartment. They slso have cool docks, hats and an excellent selection of chocolates! I slmost forgot to mention that they also have a " membership program ". For every purchase you make ,you get points based on what you buy as well as monthly discounts. As a result, I'll often get $5 to $10 dollars off when i go to pay at the cash register. I have slso been very impressed with their dedicated staff who seem to know where every product is on their two floors of merchandise!

If you're looking for something and they've rearranged items, all you have to do is ask--they're always happy to help. The prices are reasonable. Sure, I know another place where I can get Krazy Glue as a two-pack for the same price, but I still choose to buy my glue, housewares, and other supplies from Gantry. There is a $5 minimum purchase at checkout, so keep that in mind. Many hardware stores have a minimum anyway, but it's always good to check ahead of time. The store is well organized, although sometimes there's so much to look at that you come in for one item and walk out with several others--haha. It was too big; it does not go in; i went back to Lexington hardware, the guy polished a little and gave me the money... the key went in tightly.... i think i need to find the same key! so, i searched online; i called Rainbow Locksmith at 338 E 65th street; the guy answered my phone is Joe, he said he has it. i went there.... he found a key but does not say the same things. But Joe told me this is the key!!! I paid big money over $10 with tax; i came back home, checked, it worked very nicely (although it may still be not identical). it is good enough!!!
